I play in the SEA server, and DCs by players out of the blue are EXTREMELY frequent.

So there will always be people asking "your friend?" and/or "is he going to rc?" and let me just say this here: YOU ARE ENTIRELY STUPID IF YOU ASK THIS QUESTION. You are an idiot and you should just shut up.

This is why you are asking a stupid question:

1) 99% of the time, people in game are HAPPY to be in game. Why? Because THEY CAN ACTUALLY GET IN GAME. Lately it's been taking TOO DAMN LONG to find and GET into a single game; do you HONESTLY THINK that people will want to WILLINGLY DISCONNECT after successfully getting into a game?

2) Even IF the 1% disconnect on purpose because of whatever reasons they have, DO YOU HONESTLY THINK THAT WE WILL KNOW WHETHER HE WILL RECONNECT?

3) Assuming the person is in a party or a friend. Okay, it's a given we will have knowledge of whether he will want to reconnect, and 99% of the time, the person WILL WANT TO RECONNECT BECAUSE WHO THE f*** WANTS TO LEAVE A GAME THAT IS HARD TO GET TO BEGIN WITH. So YES, we KNOW the person will WANT to reconnect to the game, but whether he CAN RECONNECT or NOT is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ISSUE OUT OF OUR HANDS. It is dependent on whether Steam will troll him or not.

The SEA Servers have been SHIT for the past half year and it's only getting worse. I myself have a lot of abandoned games because even though I WANT TO RECONNECT, I CANNOT. EIther I get kicked out from Steam or Dota refuses to let me connect back, either giving an error or refusing to even let me go back into Dota after I've closed Dota and restarted Steam.

THIS IS NOT MY CHOICE.

And I know this is happening to A LOT OF PEOPLE. It's nobody's choice, really.

So really, STOP ASKING STUPID QUESTIONS LIKE "WILL HE RECONNECT" because tl;dr:

1) WE CANNOT SAY FOR SURE

What do we do in light of this shitty situation with the SEA servers? WE ALL BE GRACIOUS AND PATIENT PLAYERS. Either both sides come to a consensus on pausing the game for 5 minutes (5 minutes won't die one) or choose to continue and team members help the player lagging behind by helping them farm back up to speed when they rc.

YES it is frustrating when one player DCs. How do you think the DC'd player feels when he is playing and suddenly gets DC for no apparent reason? As much as it sucks on your side, bear in mind it is even worse for the dced player because he knows he is letting the team down and he has to be in a fluster to try to get reconnected back. Trust me, it is not a fun experience and it just ruins the mood.

ALL THESE DCs ARE NOT OUR CHOICE.

What is our choice, then?

To be patient, gracious and understanding members of the SEA Dota community.

haha, welcome to SEA. Where most people are given an education yet do nothing with it.

I rarely get to play with educated teammates/opponents who can speak and comprehend proper English. Maybe it's because I'm not in ultra high matchmaking.

But I realize that in high level matchmaking games, people get more educated there...

I will dc if we have 3 carries and 1 of them went boots+tangoes 1st.f*** them it was their fault.

Your 2nd part is fascinating. Maybe better players are naturally more intelligent? Dota is not a simple game for the simple minded, after all.

What is wrong by asking that ? It serve a purpose , so we don`t have to pause and continue on. My team of 5 will play a fair game and pause the game if we know they will reconnect back. Sometime opponent will reply 'he won`t be reconnecting', or 'he's dead'. Then we just proceed with the game. If nobody answers or dorno. Also proceed.

If you irritated by such questions, I do not know how to address your problem.

Normally I will ask is the dcer anyone's friend first. If there is a friend then Im sure he/she will know whether he is trying to reconnect back as it shows when your friends connect to steam and dota 2.

If the dcer is solo playing, then the remaining players can give a certain amount of time lets say 5 mins pause for the dcer to come back. If he doesnt then continue the game.

Asking the right thing is the solution.

Wait till you get europeans as ur teammates who dont speak engrish on SEA servers.

There are reason why people would ask this type of question, to make sure someone have track on his connection status, so people will be able to wait, not like you wanted to wait for someone for 1 whole day and gets nothing in the end right?

But of course its entirely different on my side, most of the time if people disconnects i will just alt tab out and surf facebook to refresh my mind while waiting for the others to reconnect back.

For one I am extremely baffled and found myself face palm-ing when i read your post on just how one simple question that DOES NO HARM WHATSOEVER made you type a whole f*cking essay on this. I think a lot of you are misunderstanding me. The reason why 'is he going to reconnect' is a stupid question is because most of the time, people WILL TRY TO RECONNECT. VERY RARELY will someone actually choose to disconnect because as it is, the SEA servers are shitty and it is quite clear that there is a definite pattern going on when people start randomly getting disconnected and then get reconnected again like, 10 minutes later. This has happened to me and my friends so many times, it's frustrating. VERY RARELY will people just suddenly dc out of the blue for no apparent reason; ESPECIALLY SO if the team is winning the game. Granted, there are incidences where we can suspect it's a ragequit.

With that said, the question itself is flawed. It shouldn't even be asked.

NOBODY KNOWS FOR SURE IF HE WILL RECONNECT SUCCESSFULLY. The player will of course want to reconnect, but whether he can or not is a completely different issue.

Thus it would be better to ask if the person is anyone's friend first and whether or not he is trying to reconnect. There should be a waiting time limit of 5 minutes.

You see, it doesn't matter. Whether the person reconnects or not, (a) if he reconnects, he will go back in game, (b) if he DOESN'T reconnect, or, takes longer than 5 minutes to log back into steam (which, FYI is very common because those who dc will often restart steam and dota2.exe) then he WON'T reconnect and everyone else will know; everyone else would have been bored of waiting by then and have resumed the game anyway. Nobody likes waiting for 5 minutes; then again, I reckon if you're in the gold/diamond bracket with more dedicated players, then the player would be a little more serious and therefore the rest of the players would be more than willing to wait more than 5 minutes for a good game.

Also, if the person is a friend and let's say he wants to derp around and not reconnect on purpose, do you think his friend will tell you the truth? He'd rather avoid his friend getting reported for leaving because it will give his friend a low prio penalty.


IT IS AN ANNOYING QUESTION.

A lot of people are too dense to realise that asking that question is REDUNDANT IN MANY SITUATIONS. Just... think. Both teams are mid game, or even late game and one side is winning. And then the carry disconnects. Still got people ask "is he going to rc?" LIKE HELLO DUH? Who the f*** wants to sully their history with a potential win by purposely choosing to dc? Or how about mid game when a lane is pushing a tower. One suddenly dcs out of the blue. Like DUH pushing tower leh, want to purposely dc for what?


The thing is that, people are asking this question needlessly. It can be quite easily guessed whether a person WILL rc or not depending on how he's playing in the game or where the team is at. The point of this rant is takes into account TWO IMPORTANT FACTORS: (1) The state of the SEA servers where DCs are VERY frequent and can happen to multiple people at any one time and (2) Where the game is at for the time being. Also, the game has to be paused first by the team with the dc member. OF COURSE they will want to find out if the person WILL reconnect, so instead of shooting immediately with "is he going to rc?" accede with their request to pause. The team that is pausing the game will not pause needlessly and WILL try to get their member to reconnect BECAUSE THEY NEED HIM ON THEIR TEAM, PERIOD. What for pause the game and not try to check if he is reconnecting? Waste of time for their team and the other team. It's such a basic thing to comprehend yet people don't bother thinking about this.

I'm just so annoyed by people spamming "is he rcing" and then pressing f9 immediately after unpausing.

Why can't everyone just be patient and wait a few minutes for the person to reconnect and if he doesn't, then continue after that time is up? More often than not, those dcers will reconnect back, because trust me, it is already hard to get games in SEA servers with the long waiting time, it doesn't make sense for people to just want to randomly leave mid game for no apparent reason.

It is the fact that people ask a silly question when someone dcs FOR NO APPARENT REASON.

I am NOT talking about the times when a team is losing badly and a person is feeding the other team and then "mysteriously" dcs. THAT is suspicious and then if you wanna ask, can go ahead. Even better still, pause the game, open the person's steam account and hopefully if its public, you can see if the person is still in steam and dota. If he is, then report.

If you think the question is annoying, you can choose to ignore it. Personally, I don't think it's annoying, nor it is a stupid question. The game is paused anyway, no harm in a bit of chatting.
