When you join you get 2 Power Pack sessions. Those are 2 free personal training sessions to help you get started.

BTW which branch do you join?

Wanna ask, is there at least 1 or two Fitness Trainer around when you do workout? So that I can ask what kind of workouts and whether it is the right way of doing it or not.

not always.. sometimes they show u a cock face, and you have to go all out of the way just to call them. I've seen them ignore the members who are using the machines wrongly.. they dont say anything but just walk past..

I notice that some PTs (mostly the newer ones) will correct you if you are using the machines wrongly. But for the older (senior) PTs, you'll have to ask most of the time. smile.gif

Actually the place is in the dumps now...last time all the trainers are very friendly....nowadays, all alwayz show tulan face, and they don't even bother to help you...

When I joined 3 years ago at Menara John Hancock, the trainers were always very helpful. Always assisted with the machine if my form was wrong. Then just joined back 4 months ago...I tell you the only thing good is the atmosphere....but the trainers there are like for decoration only. And besides, last time my PT always give free sessions and help out when he's free...those were the days. Anyway, I'm only there to build muscle...when I get my goal, and my contract habis, I'm switching...either to Celebrity or California...

Do they charge any extra fee if we 'ask'? You know, there are so many different workouts, just afraid that PT will definitely remember me if I ask them everyweek. laugh.gif

its their job, they have to do it, regardless of personal problems, business will always be business. but usually if ure a hot chick with nice bouncing 'balloons' they would be glad to help u in anything, i'm implying this to male PT's only though, or maybe some 'special' female PT's too tongue.gif

There are tons of them lounging around. Its almost too many in just one place in my opinion. I think you can go back to your trainer (the one you were allocated to when you get the 2 free PT when you sign up) to ask questions. Else just go to anyone who looks friendly and doesn't show their tulan face 24/7

Well, the good thing about FF is that there are many branches and they are in office buildings...good if you're working nearby.

If you are a student or if California or Celebrity Fitness is closer to your place, you should go there instead. I think it all boils down to convenience....the more convenient the place is, the more often you'll visit the place.

depend...FF is monthly paid...while CF is selling package(such as min 18 months)...CF also got monthly paid like FF, but is not worth if u plan to go long term

like the package i join in january 2006, 2 years for RM1999 include all processing fees) + 5%government tax...means 1 month only RM87 ...

so if u only 'temporary' interested to gym only, join those monthly paid 1....can quit anytime...

however, like jetyap said, go to the 1 near to ur home or office...
like if u stay next to leisure mall cheras, for sure u should join FF instead of CF in mv or menara standard chartered...

also, FF has free soft drinks and borrow VCD...CF only got sky juice tongue.gif and no VCD to borrow...in terms of gym equipment almost the same

I don't think many people know this but after a high intensity workout, sugars are consumed by the body to rebuild glucogen levels. But don't take this for granted....moderation is key.

for all Fitness first member.

I've just wrote to FF HQ suggesting them to organise a SPORTS DAY...
Games like Volleyball/Basketball/Football/ Tug-of-war/relay racing can be organised and compete against other FF branches.

This will not only encourage members to interact with each other, but also to promote them to train harder in preparation for these event.

This is just my two cent to better promote member interaction.

Hope to have support from LowYat FF members

Wisma Consplant, Summit, Uptown, Curve, Axis, IOI mall, Maxis, SPK... All I have been to already except for Manulife where it is so geologically not right for me tongue.gif Chico wise, you have to be the right day and the right time (for those HOT cardio classes, you will see a lot of them)

Consplant will face hot challenge as celebrity fitness just opened up a branch in Parande. Hopefully they will be thinking of upgrading some of their old equipments to compete with it. Cheers... Work out work out... Body beautiful... icon_rolleyes.gif

I donno bout the rest or other "offers", but I took the IOI Mall HOME package (not Passport) and pays RM132 monthly (that was before their official opening, donno if they still charge that rate). The most annoying thing is for them to charge me the freaking RM95 admin fee even though they waived the joining fee.

The place is pack like hell man. Is it the same in other FF outlets ? I was in time to join the bodystep class also and OMG I was huffing and panting like crazy trying to keep up with the class and it's only a beginner class. Hahahahaha. I also just joined FF IOI under Home package as the rest is a bit out of the way for me to go so decided to just try HOME package first anyway the guy said I could change/switch anytime I like ? The place is pack like hell man. Is it the same in other FF outlets ? I was in time to join the bodystep class also and OMG I was huffing and panting like crazy trying to keep up with the class and it's only a beginner class. Hahahahaha. I'm planning to go on Tuesday and Thursday.

ioi Mall's FF is still new... New members and also some passport members going there to try out (like me). The time I went, I was shocked with the amount of people there, probably during preview time. Have to wait for the machines (treadmills and other equipments). It will settle down later ler... Just have to be patience. Some passport members follow their instructor one u know. tongue.gif

Yeah, considering that it is new and in a strategic location surrounded by lots of middle to higher income residential areas, FF was very smart in quickly locking into this area.

Yes I guess it's true cause I asked the people at the front desk and said many passport holder came to IOI to try out the new place. I guess after a while it will go back to normal. Anyone have taken any sessions with PT ? Anyone to recommend ?

for all Fitness first member.

I'm supporting your proposal. smile.gif
I hope to suggest an annual trip for member to any island, like redang. smile.gif
they can get lots of profit for organizing such big tour.

Like I said in my previous post, it depends on what kind of "offer" you get. FF is notorious for not disclosing fees through the phone, just drop by any nearest branch and find out.... And do let us know the pricing you get wink.gif

I also wanna know... Roughly my friend had like 2 years passport membership for RM175 per month. I was looking to stay in one place only (Leisure Mall) since its quite near my house. Wonder if non-passport one is cheaper I guess?

p/s: I heard some of the PT is SOOO judgemental to the max sweat.gif

I meant instead of helping you, they just pass by and look at you like a lowlife chimp trying to hard to figure out the machine, you know, with those "look" like "I'm a better human being than you"...

This is what I heard from a friend, I'm sure not all PT like that... Just some ignorant prick may behave like that.

I get what you mean now. I guest trained at a FF gym at Asia Jaya. But most of them are skinny ass fitness pussies. I own them in terms of poundage they use. Everyone's there to learn how to workout but it doesn't give them the right to look down on other people.
Unless you're paying them, they treat other people like crap. Not like their knowledge is all that great.

any trainers who tells your female friends to work with a 2lb pink dumbbells for 15 reps to TONE up their triceps to get rid of their bye bye arms should be shot. applies to 99% of the personal trainers in all fitness centers. remember guys, it's not a gym. it's a fitness center.

i agree, most PTs in fitness centers are elitist scumbags. go join a real gym.

LMAO! Yep yep. The average fitness centre PT's are definitely not qualified to train people in bodybuilding. To tone, yes, to gain mass, not really.
By the way, free weights produce the best results, always. Most PT's make their trainees use stupid machines. Saw one PT teaching his client how to do arm armed machine flys. Christ!!

an experience of PT session from a friend of mine. FYI, she paid RM80/session and this is what she get:
15min stretching & warm up etc
15min cardio
15min machine (most ppl pay b'coz of this!)
15min cool down
this is good for newbies but not for the regulars who wanted to improve

i joined gym since 2002 & would like to share my experience with some of u who wanted to start (some might disagree. hey, whatever works for u icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif ):

1) go alone! no need to get a friend as partner coz he/she might end up being the reason why u skip gym or stop going at all!! rclxub.gif rclxub.gif
2) find a suitable time & be consistent. e.g. i workout in the morning mon-fri (wake up at 6:10am). evening dun work for me coz tend to skip gym for less healthy activities brows.gif brows.gif
3) go to gym according to schedule even if u dun feel like working out. u skip once & there'll be a next & so on whistling.gif whistling.gif

Home memebership is definitely cheaper than passport memebership. Home member i think is about 140-150 only if the price havent changed that much. But then, there are always some deals one... Let me be your introducer, I want the SUPERMAN BAG!!!!

I saw some promoters around Uptown 5 distributing 1 month free trial for free. They arent FF staff, just some promoters distributing it.
Look for it. I was there during lunchtime.

BTW, home membership is RM145 a month. Joining fee is supposely RM500 but nobody ever paid that before, they usually give RM0 as a promo. Admin fee is RM99 but u get some stuffs (gym bag, towel, water bottle, 2 PT session, headphone, etc)

Well, when i first started, i had to swallow my ego. I remember when i first stepped into my gym, i was laughed at by the regular guys at The Royal Lake Club (near the Lake Gardens) who were labelled the "strong guys" there. I couldn't even bench the bar, imagine that.
Few years later, i lift more than 2 times of what they lift. I get the last laugh. Now i piss them off by using up most the 20kg and 15kg plates in the gym when i deadlift so they gotta wait their turn.
It takes perseverance, patience and a thick skin but in the end, sticking with free weights is worth it.

oh, wtf. so lansi. the worst i got from my gym are just stares from senior and that also was more like "ambil berat"(no pun intended).

yeah i remember i can't bench the bar too when i first started but i was able to pin up to 7 plates on the chest press machine. so i kind of protected my ego at the beginning by staying away from the free weights area. then my ex housemate(not a scumbag) came along and verbally abused me to bench. i'll be forever grateful to that arsehole.

Yeah. They were seriously bastards with something shoved up their asses. They used to be so arrogant. They would make me wait endlessly for the bench press apparatus.
Now they don't really dare piss me off anymore. But hey, i'm a mellow guy in the gym. As long as i have a good workout, I'm pretty happy. Here's an old deadlift vid. They were waiting on the right for the weights. I took my time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJ-Aswa0pJ0

I just hit 415 pounds yesterday for 2 heavy singles. wink.gif

And a 110kg Yates row video for 8 reps. The third set was killing me. Lol.

Hmm...
now FF has a promo with my company

if i join b4 july, I only need to pay RM140 for passport membership and Zero joining fees, plus I also gets the superman starter kit.

Sounds like a very good deal eh?? but dunno about the T&C thou... might have to sign a contract for 1 or 2 years maybe?

Hmm... very tempted to join... anyone from the summit or subang cosplant branch doing free weight?  wanna to try out free weight but no body teach me sad.gif
*
My friend's company is subsidising 50% of the monthly FF fees for all staff. So on average they pay like RM70-RM80 a month for Passport membership......that's really cheap. So a suggestion is, go and pester your HR manager/director to do the same... blush.gif

Lol.

Thanks bro. I'm trying my best. Like i keep saying, i wish i started deadlifts a lot earlier. My back has exploded in growth and thickness ever since i started doing them. My US friends say the potential is there. 600 pounds is not really far away, hopefully by the end of this year. There'll definitely be some plateaus encountered, but i guess i should be able to get around them.

Good job man. I think you'll get there. You sound like you got a good grasp of what you need to do and the will to do it. Good on ya.

I'm kinda sick of FF right now,so damn many people all the time. Wonder if getting my own little equipment at home is worth it...

Well, look. FF, CF, TF are all glamour places to train, full of youngsters who just do chest and biceps everyday with chicken legs. You're better much joining a hardcore small gym with decent and complete equipment. Granted there are no hot chicks to look at, no air conditioning nor fancy ass aerobics classes and all that, but as long as there's metal, it gets the job done.
Seeing the Cost of Redemption by Ronnie Coleman who trains in a hardcore ghetto gym with only a giant fan blowing in hot Texan weather really inspires me. The gym i train at has no air conditioning at all, but it's got a power rack and I'm pretty happy with it.

I meant, i hope to lift 600lb, not weight 600lb. Lol. And no, I'm a very friendly guy. It's very hard to piss me off. smile.gif
Well, my bodyweight is currently 97kg now. I wanted to reach 100kg, but I need to be careful that the weight gained is more muscle than fat. So it's hard, i need to control the macronutrients in my diet properly. Here we go, another new record. 435 pounds lifted. wink.gif

For a month's worth it's pretty good, unless if there's any limitation on the days/time one can visit.

Ok, I am meeting this lady to sign up for membership account transfer tomorrow at 11am in Menara Axis. Starting then I will be a member and I wish to be hyperactive in gym.

I will go regularly and not waste the RM175 (passport) I am about to pay every month. My target within 1 year is a US Navy body. I am now 191 cm and 105kg, my BMI is 29. My ideal weight is 85 - 90kg, converting all fats to muscle.

I hope some of you regulars can gimme a tip or two. Let's meet up!!

Fat won't convert to muscle lar, you burn the fat and increase your existing muscles.

You'll be a regular at menara Axis?
I'll usually train Mon, Wed & Fri at Wisma Cosplant
Once a while I'll go to Summit also smile.gif

Cuz it's annoying to see people say "Convert fats to muscle" cuz muscle is a complete different component.
Fats, is different. IT's almost like saying "Convert CO2 to H2O" Two completely different things.

And btw...1 year, that size to US army........that's a lot of cutting you'll have to go through. All the best, I don't think it's possible, but maybe you're one of those with big size and big muscles.

Lame.... and if they stop going, will you stop going also? You need to motivate yourself to go, even if it means going alone, not just because your gf's sister's friend's brother or whoever is there... shakehead.gif

imo bmi doesnt apply to anyone living a healthy lifestyle... weightlifters, body builders, pro fighters are usually overweight according to their bmi. bmi sucks.

Why do you think they are staring at you? Either you're too 'perasan' thinking that other people are jealous of your physique or you are doing something wrong? tongue.gif Don't bother about other people. Your first and foremost reason of going to the gym is to attain your fitness goals. Period.

A lot of people actually feel the same man...just that u never feel what they feel there actually lol. I see in the locker room not many talk to each other. Mostly all mind their own business and stare cock at each other lol. Maybe next time I go, I will make friends. It's better to spend a lil more time there having fun while working out than just go there maybe 30 minutes, three times a week and u paid RM149 per month rclxub.gif

PS: look at celebrity fitness thread, got people feeling alienated laugh.gif .

Got. Rm108 per month. but limited hours, only can go at 10am to 5pm. if you wanna join, that time u join must pay RM411 which is admin fees, reg fees and 2 months fee (first month fee and last month fee) (which leaves you paying only for the next 10 months later) Better to sign up for the Home Package, can go anytime you want, RM149 per month. pay RM419 the time u register which is admin fees, reg fees and 2 months fee (first month fee and last month fee) (which leaves you paying only for the next 10 months later). Home package means u can only workout at one fitness first branch. There is the passport package which is around RM200 per month, this one u can work out at any of the fitness first branch u want, at any time.

Any place that has a power rack. That's why i don't recommend Celebrity Fitness. Al lthey have is the crappy Smith machine. If you need to pick from these places, FF seems your best bet. I'm not sure about CF though.

Ha ha ha...I'm also a newbie FYI. For my 2 free PT sessions, I questioned the PT on all the possible questions in my mind in order to achieve my fitness goals and also to know how to use all of the machines/freeweight station. And no, I still consider myself an ectomorph and don't have a nice body, yet tongue.gif I don't care if ppl stare or what, they can stare all they want....we are all on a journey to achieving our goals. So far the progress is good, but it will be a long way to go...

haha everyone also dont really care if ppl stare what, but people still do stare whether you care or not, that's just something i wanna tell everyone here only, i didnt say if they stare at us we can die one tongue.gif . Sometimes people do stare, but they are not thinking about anything, they are just resting their minds by looking at you and looking around at other people. But go to fitness first, pay RM149 per month, if all you do is just go there 45 minutes work out then go home, so introvert some more, a bit waste money la. Go there if can make friends, what for become introvert doh.gif . It's just like saying you go to expensive private college, pay RM5000 per semester, target is to get all As / Distinction for exam and not make friends, dont care about all the other people in your college doh.gif . Selfishness. No offense la, but just wanna say that making friends in the gym won't hurt us and there are benefits to it also. Who knows you might end up making friends with your future hot atheletic gf/wife there in the future rolleyes.gif

Hey, carlsuen, I didn't manage to go workout with chris at his gym on sunday because I fell sick. So I didn't get to learn much of the moves yet except for the one that the pt taught me, but i'm still not very confident if I can do it alone yet.

Is it possible for you workout with me on the weekdays this week, because I need some help learning the moves like deadlifts and the rest as I'm still new. Asking for the pt to help me will only make me end up on the treadmill first cry.gif and worst, machines!! . You working out on the weekdays also right this week? Is it possible for you to bring me in to wherever you work out at on weekdays, or maybe u can spend a lil time at the curve? really need help notworthy.gif .

Yea wasted, suddenly fell sick, dont know why, could be allergy, my room is kinda dusty. I should recover by this week. Hope can find someone to teach me on the weekdays this week, if not maybe i'll just do some of the workouts that I know on the weekdays and wait for carlsuen this saturday. Are you still around this sunday or back in malacca already, Chris? The PT put me on smith machine when I asked him to teach me squat last time doh.gif .

Yea wor... I am not sure but the terms and condition say cannot but somehow we did it. I have to double check my credit card statement for confirmation. My cousin's gf who was going to australia also manage to transfer her account to my cousin sister successfully wor.

Well, most likely I will go to the one in Summit because Kesas highway Klang is near my house or the one in Axis to meet my friend. These two will be my main gym I guess. Hopefully they open one in Klang soon.

wah, can transfer account one ar? I didnt know that.

So, which gym are you going to? home or passport? Which is your main gym? tongue.gif
*
Yes can transfer, but only if you talk to the right people, like for celebrity fitness last time, I wanted to transfer my account to my sister in penang, i called up celebrity, the staff who answered the phone say cannot, but luckily, my sister's friend knows the celebrity fitness manager and she let us transfer accounts, but got charge one...RM99 sweat.gif ...suppose to be RM99 + another RM99 but i get discount, i think cuz my sister's friend knows the manager well. sweat.gif luckily.

Chris / Carlsuen, I'm kinda having diarrhea right now, not sure how, it might be the side-effects from the antibiotic that the doctor gave me for my sickness the other day, it might also be from that HL milk I drink quite a lot (that lactose intolerent thing? rclxub.gif ). I need to stop drinking HL milk and taking antibiotics from now on. Are there any other products that I can consume to replace HL milk? any alternatives? for gaining weight. Or just eat normal food only also can? will the result differ later?

Also, My dad says that because I didn't want to drink the HL milk cold, the fact that I took the milk out from the fridge and left it outside the refridgerator for 1 hour or more, the milk becomes spoil and bacteria will react, would that be the cause too? I was coughing so thats why I needed the milk not to be cold.

This is what I found in Wikipedia about Alternatives for Lactose Intolerant people.

QUOTE
Alternative products

Reduced or entirely lactose-free products (using milk substitutes such as soy milk, almond milk, or rice milk) are available allowing lactose-intolerant people to maintain approximately the same diet as those who are tolerant, without having to purchase medication or significantly alter their eating habits.

The food industry has successfully managed to create low-lactose or entirely lactose-free products to replace the regular items, without loss in quality. Lactose-free milk can be produced by passing milk over lactase enzyme bound to an inert carrier: once the molecule is cleaved, there are no lactose ill-effects. Alternatively, a harmless bacterium such as L. acidophilus may be added, which affects the lactose in milk the same way it affects the lactose in yoghurt (see above).

Finland has had "HYLA" (acronym for hydrolysed lactose) products available for many years, even though the number of lactose intolerant people there is relatively small. These low-lactose level cow's milk products, ranging from ice cream to cheese, use a Valio patented chromatographic separation method to remove lactose. The ultra-pasteurization process, combined with aseptic packaging ensures a long shelf-life. Recently, the range of low-lactose products available in Finland has been completed with milk and other dairy products, even ice cream, that contain no lactose at all: the remaining about 20% of lactose in HYLA products is taken care of enzymatically. These typically cost 2-4 times more than equivalent products containing lactose. Valio also markets these products in Sweden.

Many countries have similar product lines, and new consumer products continue to become available. In America over recent years (1990-2000) there has been a notable increase of available lactose-reduced and lactose-free dairy products; examples being cottage cheese, American cheese and ice cream.

GUYS LISTEN UP HERE!!

NEVER GO FOR BODY PUMP CLASSES!! NEVER!!

body attack, body jam, body balance all ok.. but NEVER GO FOR BODY PUMP CLASSES!!

as all the technique for lifting the weight is so wrong!! you'll get hurt in the long run.. especially if done heavy..

the row, deadlift, squat, overhead press techniques are all WRONG!! and the trainer don't even bother to correct some of those that are doing it all wrong..

what's more the trainer themselves also doing the wrong technique.. even tho i'm not as qualified as them in terms of academic or resume wise.. but my lifting knowledge is firm and i know what i'm saying..

Went to FF The curve today (my base tongue.gif). I did, Squat almost perfect today carlsuen tongue.gif ! did 10kg today. Cleared all 3 sets 5 reps biggrin.gif . So means next time I can add another 1.25kg la? or 2.5 kg?

Just now I tried to do bench press. when I tried the 5kg ...heavy leh, cannot pick up doh.gif . Maximum I did was 3.75kg sad.gif .

deadlifts, I only did until 5kg. 10kg i tried to lift that time, no energy already. maybe I'm doing too many warm up sets? I did like warmup 2 sets and 5 reps with the bar, warmup 1 set 5 reps with the 5kg .

I assume you are doing Bill Starr 5x5 program, but you seems dono what's your max of 5 reps for those Squat, Bench press & deadlifts. I'm currently also doing 5x5, and i know how much i should lift before im in the gym.

what did u mean by "almost perfectly" ? 1.25kg on each side.. so altogether 2.5kg.. that's what u should aim for next time.. so next session should be 11.25 kg.. altogether 42.5kg plus bar.. CONGRATS DUDE!!

on bench it's like that.. it's gonna be one of the hardest lifts.. just work on it consistently and eat more la.. u too skinny la.. just eat!!

on deadlifts.. maybe u can take longer rest between sets? like 2-3 mins.. take your time.. just make sure u make all the sets and reps..

moodyday,

what you need to do is lots and lots of cardio exercise.. do more RPM.

Body Pump is strenght training and body firming.

eh? got such light plate meh, 1.25kg ?? the lightest i see in FF is 2.5kg each, so the weight increment will be always in 5kg.

btw, anyone has any idea what's the exact weight of the bar? 20kg or 30kg??

anyway, I'll be at the IOI branch today around 6pm++, the one doing squats at the rack could be me wink.gif

Its funny that most FFs are situated near to makan shops.

@ my home gym, LM .. u step outside and a Hong Kong restaurant will greet you. Turn left and you can see a Vietnam kitchen, Secret Recipe & Starbucks.. Beside Starbucks there's this Japanese restaurant and Baskin Robbins is nearby too sweat.gif ..temptations...

Try not make that a habit of not going to gym bcos you're tired from school/work. you use this excuse once, and you will use this excuse for a second time, for the third time, then again and again. End up you don't have consistency. Remember, consistency is the key.

Basically at work/school, usually you get tired bcos of sitting on your bud too long, as there's not much physical work involved.
For me, I think it's all in our brain, we are not physically tired but are just mentally tired.
I make point of going to gym on Mon, Wed, Fri. No matter how tired I am after work, by hook or by crook I'll drag myself to gym flex.gif The only time I can't go is either I got to stay back due to work, or I'm totally sick.

Once you have started your first set at gym, you'll find out you are actually not that tired as you though, it's all in your brain laugh.gif

agree thumbup.gif

endorphin: a chemical naturally released in the brain to reduce pain, and which in large amounts can make you feel relaxed or energetic. Endorphins are the body's natural pain medication hormones. Endorphins (en-dor-fins), when they're released, make us feel better, improve our mood, increase pleasure, and minimize pain. There are some good ways, and bad ways, to increase endorphins.
Exercise will raise the level of endorphins.

actually got another excuse, my friend not going to gym, so that means I have no direct transport there because my friend can drive. and I dont think my dad likes to send me there, he say too far la the curve. I cant drive yet man. So that means if I went yesterday night, my dad either drop me off at the bus station to go ikano (beside the curve) or if i went in the evening, I will have to walk all the way and take lrt to the bus station, then go back also most likely walk. mahfan ar. walking is like cardio edi. I'm trying to gain weight. I scare lose weight walking too much.

that's not another excuse, but a bunch of excuses tongue.gif doh.gif

if you're seriously enough wanted to bulk up, by all means you'll find a way to go to gym, and not giving yourself all sort of excuses tongue.gif

btw, who told u walking too much will lose weight?? doh.gif
You can use the walking as warming up mah, when you reach the gym can just start with weightlifting

Anyway, guys I went to FF the curve today. Carlsuen, I already did squats with the 11.25kg each side. Here's the results

Squats
warmup set with bar
2 x 5

warmup set with 5kg each side
1 x 5

real set (with 11.25kg each side)
3 x 5 (I actually did 4 sets but the 2nd set I failed, due to breathing).

Then I did Pendlay Row
3 x 10 with the bar
2 or 3 sets x 5 with the 2.5kg each side

Standing Military Press
2 x 5 with the bar
1 x 2 with the 2.5kg each side (failed)
1 x 5 with the 1.25kg each side tongue.gif
1 x 4 1.25 each side (failed)
1 x 3 1.25 each side (failed) Pancit already by this time i think laugh.gif

everything alright? I think I can do the Pendlay Row almost 90 degrees already, I can do it better especially if I dont look at the mirror, then can focus forward and put my chest up.

Anyway, I think it's working, I think I'm getting stronger, because just now when the time I want to do the Standing Military Press, The bar feels very light thumbup.gif flex.gif

wah today was a not bad day at gym, but something bad happened, when I was doing bench press, the last rep I couldn't hold on so the right side of the bar dropped and tilted , kena me a bit lol...those people who stare cock at me in the gym are nice people after all, one strong guy helped me carry the fallen and tilted bar. notworthy.gif. And then when I was doing another workout, I was doing it wrong, another strong and experienced guy came to help me with it. thumbup.gif. Everything else was good, I'm going to be consistent now. How does the protein powder help? Damn expensive....Rm160 sad.gif .

Here's what I did today:

Squat:
Warmup sets
2x5 with bar
1x5 with 5kg each side

Real set
3x5 with 12.5kg each side (succeeded!) brows.gif

Bench Press:
2x10 with bar
3x5 with 2.5kg each side rclxub.gif (I dont really know what to do...10 reps or 5?? how many kg???)

Deadlifts:
2x5 with bar
1x5 with 5kg each side
3x10 with 11.25kg each side

To Carlsuen and Chris: People in the gym (big size people, experienced look, some of them body quite toned) have been telling me that I'm doing the deadlift the wrong way. Got 2 guys, both big size and one of them body quite toned, the first guy with the toned body say, he started out with a size just like me, he then teach me the deadlift in a different way, Just the way to lift it up i mean, he say the one that Carlsuen teach me is Power Lift (and of course they teach me not to bend my back), and before I pick it up, he say put the bar close to my shin and tell me to do 10 reps, he say I must carry heavy weights if not no point, he suggested i start with the 10kg then move up the next week i come to gym. Then today another big size guy teach me deadlift a different way, he say must point my A-hole up, must bend my back (the part near the butt), and must not put the bar near the kneecap and should not touch the knee rclxub.gif and my forearm must be in front of my kneecap, and he say the 11.25kg weight is too heavy for me rclxub.gif(To me it is not very heavy actually, just medium), this guy's deadlift looks something like a Pendlay Row rclxub.gif, he told me to lift up my Elbow and not my forearm when doing it, because if not I will be training my forearm instead. I'm getting confused. Whos right and whos wrong? What form do I follow?

iliveunderwater, I'm facing the same problem too...
as a newbie, sometime we just dunno which form to follow, different people uses different form. You see all sorts of forms are used at the gym, and most of the time we dunno whether those forms are correct or not. rclxub.gif

Anyway, I use the form from bodybuilding.com as guideline. When in doubt, I'll just ask the sifus here biggrin.gif

cowcow, most of those so called "consultant" (Personal Trainer, right?) aren't helpful at all... not to say all of them aren't helpful, but majority of them are @sshole. U go to any club also the same lar... never depends on them. This is already my 3rd month joining FF, and I've never seek help from any PT also, and I'm doing fine as newbie flex.gif

cowcow, complaint to the front desk and ask them to get you another consultant wink.gif.

am going to LM @ 2pm to join body jam class rclxm9.gif and PT session @ 3pm flex.gif

weighed myself on the body fat measuring machine yesterday and my i gained 1.4 kg after 3 weeks of workout doh.gif damn frustrating but i feel fitter, my clothes fits better, i can do longer cardio and can lift heavier. ah well, maybe I'm gaining muscle faster than losing fat laugh.gif

Bro. Chris here. I just got your sms when i woke up. Lol. I know it's very confusing when you get different variations of advice on the deadlift. IMO, doing more than 5 reps on the deadlift is wrong. Because the deadlift is a functional strength exercise designed for strength and low reps. You do more than 5 reps in a set, your form will start being crappy. I usually experiment with single, triples and sets of 5. Try to visualize pushing your heels through the floor when you're pulling the bar up.
Your lower torso and your upper torso must straighten out at the SAME time when the bar is going up. Here, the video i posted on youtube of me deadlifting, the guys at bb.com forums saw it, they said the form is very good. Use that as an example.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrmSoPKgYEs

That was 435 pounds, now i'm already lifting 500lbs, so i guess i'm improving. wink.gif

Good luck bro.

yo carl, the myth that creatine monohydrate will kill your kidney has been refuted for quite some time now, at least 1 year i think. it does however aggravates someone who's got kidney problems to start with. no idea about creatine ethyl ester though.

i took creatine monohydrate before, but not in the powder form, i took liquid form indeed. it gives me very good energy level which help me to push to the maximum level. but i stop taking it when i stop workout.

the liquid form of creatine monohydrate is more convenient than the powder form because liquid form normally does not require lodaing and maintainence stage.

I was actually a Celebrity Fitness member, and I wanted to gain weight, but they have no Power Rack there for me to do squats using free weights, so i changed to fitness first, everything a lot better at fitness first. when u come to register, you pay RM419. celeb fitness you pay RM298. yes its a bit more expensive, but its worth it. My fren in subang got join true fitness, the price is almost the same like fitness first i think, but i dunno how the place is like.

i took creatine monohydrate before, but not in the powder form, i took liquid form indeed. it gives me very good energy level which help me to push to the maximum level. but i stop taking it when i stop workout.

the liquid form of creatine monohydrate is more convenient than the powder form because liquid form normally does not require lodaing and maintainence stage.
*
actually i made a research on creatine in powder and liquid form.. Althought liquid form is more convinient. The powder form is the cheapest..

I actually bought 2 years supply of creatine monohydrate... for RM400

Especially when you have conversation thru the phone.

That's the time I usually go there. If you go after working hours or at night, it will be crowded like a market, which I believe is the same at most gyms elsewhere.

Been to FF LM once during morning hours. Wah so empty. But a lil bit colder.

Another good time to go gym - Friday lunch break (if you get the extra long break).

Yup. Most are working people and a few aunties. Not to say it is totally empty at 6.30am but it is way much better than going in the evenings.

It works like this,

RM105 per month, but need to be bonded with a 1 year membership. After one year, if you dont terminate ur membership, it will be RM105 forever until u terminate and reapply for a new membership.

RM99 admin fee + RM105 march fee + RM105 deposit + RM19 february's fee was the total i paid for on saturday..

I'm looking for a training partner, anyone willing to? erm..train most of the time at leisure mall or IOI mall. Main goal, body toning, shed of some weight.

If you don't mind can you please explain to me how this F&F thinggy works? I starting to get confused. I thought this F&F thinggy only works for Staff's F&F.

Got a question here:
What's the normal rate for Passport membership?

When do you usually train in IOI/LM?

I just started my first workout session today at LM, was brought around by PT Terrence for some guidance.

I assume you are quite experienced considering you train at freeweights area?
Dont mind guiding me if we are able to train together? biggrin.gif

Frankly I dont know how it works. You mentioned that it's F&F and forgotten to mention that it's for staff's F&F. I was assuming that it's members F&F but if it happen to be staff F&F also I think is arrangeable since I have a staff friend (my trainer). But no promises. I didnt even ask the membership consultant just now. They used to hv a 20% off monthly fee for previous F&F.

Normal rate? Mine's RM175, 1 year contract. 3 months contract = RM195.

I try to avoid after office hours like a plague but if no choice then I'll be there 6pm-ish. But usually I like to workout in the afternoon. Least number of people. But today n tomorrow @ Maxis to accompany a friend.

Your PT owes you 2 hours of power-pack session. Claim them ASAP biggrin.gif

I'm not THAT experienced lah. Just enough to train myself heh. Read lots of material. Go to www.exrx.net and surf till your eyes bleed.

And you dont mind training with a girl? tongue.gif

But heck, my cousin was busy and didn't bother la, got a good deal after all.

Work-out in the afternoon? Aren't u working?

I'm still waiting for FF to call me to arrange for my 2 PT session. Probably I'll go through with my own cousin ler..haha!!

Thanks for the website, but reading and putting into practice two different thing ma rite? lol

You'll have to choose your PT for the 2 free sessions, I don't think FF will call you. In my case though, the PT approached me coz they must be thinking I'll pay for the extra PT sessions. Might happen to you too if they spot a new face around. LOL.

For 3 months contract you pay RM195/mo. Haggle for cheaper price and more power pack hours. I was stupid at that time biggrin.gif

But there are a lot of other fees (admin, processing, deposit) so expect to pay around RM350 for starters. Deposit is refundable.

pay by month...You'll need to inform them if you want to terminate your membership after 3 months or else they'll assume continuation of membership of the 3-month contract.

for the first month u'll have to pay admin fee RM99 + 1 month depo + monthly fee

RM160 for home & RM195 for passport

went to FF yesterday at ioi for a 1 day trial

was quoted RM29 + RM 1 + RM 175 monthly for 1st timer walkin
never asked for student rates tho, heard that they might go lower but will be certain restrictions. not too clear about this.

quite like the place, but unfortunately the monthly fees are too steep for me sad.gif. at most i can fork out per month on gyms shud be 80 below T.T
any other possible recommendation for that kind of budget? tongue.gif

yah...the 1-day trial is free.

If not mistaken for student package, there are some restriction. only can enter at certain time period and it's only slightly cheaper. Not worth it.

just remember you're there to work out not to rub your ass on nice equipment. Just choose a ghetto gym with the basic equipment enough for you to do rippetoe's 3x5 and you're off.

Main goal, body toning, shed of some weight.

i'm refering to this deal tongue.gif

Ask the people there to show you around.
I went there, swipe my card. Went to the Personal Trainer's desk area, ask one of them to show me around as ur new there.

The PT who show me around is Terence. Quite helpful.

Whoever wants to join FF, please alwayz ask them to knock off the joining fee. that fee is CRAP. its fake.. its just there to add extra value. and also, the monthly fee, try and bargain... i'm a member at ff with RM120 monthly bill for my passport.(i joined with the friends&family coupon) if you join through the family member package or somehting like that, its RM105 per month. They got all sorts of packages and whatnot... (dunno if still got or not) blink.gif

A good way to get cheaper rates is to actually go to other commercial gym like celebrity fitness/true fitness and get a lower rate, then go back to FF, tell them the lower rate that the other gym is offering, and HOPE that FF MC will give you an even lower rate. It worked for a friend of mine. thumbup.gif

What should you do? one way is to wait for coupon or stuff like that... but thats not advicable.

Repeat (as in my prev post):
A good way to get cheaper rates is to actually go to other commercial gym like celebrity fitness/true fitness and get a lower rate, then go back to FF, tell them the lower rate that the other gym is offering, and HOPE that FF MC will give you an even lower rate. It worked for a friend of mine

Now, using that method, my friend manage to bring down the monthly fee to RM13X (hundred and thirty something). However, he decided to join celebrity for 149 instead cos he liked the atmosphere more tho. personal preference. brows.gif

SO you could follow what he did. Just use some negotiating skillz mate. biggrin.gif

wtf!

That's why I never like Fitness First. It is much much worse than my ghetto gym, which has fixed fees structure. Fitness First is like Pasar Malam, where you can bargain the price, and they always take advantage on people who don't know about this. It is the way of a commercial gym?

marketing strategy? Even goods sold in Supermarket have a price tag, and they are international fitness center for god sake.

remember Mun's blog? He had some entries regarding a popular fitness center which refused to provide the fees structure over the phone, and insisted Mun to come over to discuss it.
