QUOTE(Mac Wai @ Feb 1 2013, 06:12 PM)
Today had a near crash experience, being squeezed out of road at a round-about by an oblivious driver. A silly mistake from a noob like me, next time, must give way to the Tai Kor busy bird watching at DPC. He was enjoying himself too much to notice my handle bar scraped his rear fender. So the lesson learned..for people out there.
1) never expect them to pay attention to a cyclist over some chicks.
2) Chicks plus x-factor, can be harmful to a cyclist or just about anything, if you happens to be at a wrong place at a wrong time.
*
lucky to make it out alive dude, I tend to steer clear of roundabouts. Otherwise (if the car is on my right) I will tilt the bike left and smash the car with my right hand. I would have died if I didnt do that then.

QUOTE(butthead @ Feb 2 2013, 03:13 AM)
any physical object is not good for cyclist... whether it is it hitting you or you hitting it because of another object hitting you...

cycling glasses with power, cheap cheap also need how much ah?

cheap fix is to buy safety glasses and use silicone adhesive (around the edges of the pres lens) to bond your prescription lens to it. There was a seller who sold goggles where you can fit your prescription lens to or goggles that wrap around your glasses (...looks uncomfortable to me)

I am still looking for cheaper (doesnt mean worst) tyres (700cX25) within the Klang Valley.

Currently I am nominating a few shops in Batu caves as my LBS (even though they are further away) since the others are not interested in my business around Melawati, Gombak, (especially) Sri Rampai , Setiawangsa. But I am not not discounting the shops near Jalan Ampang.

Well I usually ask nicely stating my intent clearly, whether I am browsing, looking to buy now or looking to buy in the future. I dont see any reason for some of them to be rude in anyway, as if I robbed him of his precious time.

The refusal of service statement I cannot take, there is no excuse for it. Since you have opened a shop you should perform as such. I get so fed up with all this nonsense, plus its an offence to refuse service if you are a going concern here in Malaysia.

QUOTE(mrjgx @ Feb 4 2013, 01:51 AM)
Finished reading The Secret Race book. It's a completely different feeling now that I finally know the true face of Armstrong and his personality. It's totally different from what I have always imagined what a person he is by reading his own book, 'It's not about the bike'.

So I was browsing through Tyler's video on 60 Minutes show and stumble upon the Lance and Paul Kimmage clips, and boy he was truly as a person that I read in Tyler's book. He's an effing doper and a bully..he's screwed now, and damned forever.
*
Yeah most champions or champion wannabe are in your face plus ppl forget he is a red neck Texan ,by nature he is as such laugh.gif

If you going into the subject of doping, who do you think in his period as champion is going to raise their hand and say 'I didnt dope or considered doping, I am and have been clean during that period'

Veer off topic......comparatively Lee Chong Wei does not have the stature to be a champion. I watched the games he lost to Lin Dan and have seen him drop his racquet hand on more then a few shots easy shots.

I rather watch some 2nd tier player giving his best on every shot then that guy.

I love MY COUNTRY, but we have no game because of this.

like that ah... maybe it's your luck that you just went to the shop when the person serving you is co-incidentally having their period on that day...i don't know what to say other than that...

i think you meant "refusal to serve"... refuse service is meant for the client... like "refusing service from the lady on your staff"...

most of the time i go... they come and surround like a pack of wolves and i for once like some "refusal to be served" myself...and i do a lot of KKCC-ing at the shops...

there is no such thing as a "level playing field" one way or the other... period...

champions are held up by their supporters and as most people would have found out by now... can be as easily dropped as quickly as their rise to stature... this is the nature of us human beings...

Lance and Woods to name a few...

I have not seen any ladies on the bikie staff that is worth a second look (granted I have not been to all......hehehe)

replacement belt would be my primary concern even if i can get one...

He may have the legs of a Keirin rider....SS (sounds nazi like) all the way for you man. You may be able to get a similar one locally...heavy emphasis on the word 'may'. It is after all a toothed drive belt.

actually grease and oil is every where lar... as it is an essential thing in moving parts... eventually, it will ooze out from the freewheel mechanism from either a singlespeed or internal geared hub anyway unless you get a fixie...

internal gear also not cheap... saw those foldie buggers paying 4 figures for a complete set and you need their shifter some more...

can i know can i get the chain cleaner and the lub in most of the bicycle shop?
how much will they cost?..
normal chain cleaner and 2nd grade lub..
thanks:D
*
QUOTE(butthead @ Feb 4 2013, 06:06 PM)
2nd grade lube? lube is lube... it is just brand preferential...

yes, most bike shop has it... for degreaser, you can use RP7 or WD40 to degrease if you are not willing to spend on those Pedros citrus degreaser or muck off products...

lube, as i say is preferential... but typically there is 2 types... wet and dry... wet for wet as in MTB type of mud and grimy wet which is usually stated or just riding in rain and stuff... dry is for dusty conditions and stuff like that...

try 2 or 3 brands and see which one you like and then stick to that...
*
I heart citrus degreasers.....there are locally made ones that come in commercial packaging.......no $$$ method is to use hot water and mix your cheapest laundry detergent.....use with an old tooth brush or old sink brush. cost next to nothing. If you want to dress it up...put it all in an old squirt bottle laugh.gif

WD40/RP7 can penetrate bearings and chain links. Be careful with the stuff.

Never have I known wet is for wet and dry is for ummm dry.....I always used dry since it does not make a mess, both for the cup-cai and bicycles.

No $$$method is to use cheap engine oil (heaviest grade you can find, but when I was broke I used 2nd hand motorcycle oil) soaked in a rag and run the chain through it.....messy

Interesting,,,,,stacking water

If its low solute of contaminants other then H2O isnt that the process of filtration ?

I have read similar 'serious' studies in the late 80s both in cycling/athletics, and quack studies in the late 90s which cured cancer among other things, the same product resurfaced under a different name some years ago for the life of me I cannot recall its name. Malaysia is a wonderland for stuff that dont work.

Everyone is doing this doing that and setting PRs.....my bike is in pieces, for a lack of a better excuse......no time.

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR GUYS!!!!!!!

QUOTE(Nakaoji @ Feb 9 2013, 04:09 PM)
Hello guys, I'm a newbie here and want to ask sifu about seatpost.

Currently I'm using a 27.2 mm seatpost that has a length around 3++ mm like that. I'm a tall guy and the length of my current seatpost is giving me backache. Really bad.

So, by changing the length of my seatpost to 400 mm will it ever help my backache or not?

And by buying a much wider seatpost (30.9 mm or 31.6 mm) will it fit into my bicycle? Or I just need to change the seat clamp?

Thank you in advance biggrin.gif
*
sounds like your bike no fit you......

Post your bike/your size, flexibility and geometry to get any usable feedback.

If you have back pain a higher seatpost would destroy it sweat.gif

The diameter of a seat post does not effect the geometry of the bike. And no a seat post is not a vagina, it cannot accommodate anything larger then its intended size.

I am THE TROLL here......dun hangout too much.....sorry but do post relevant data to get proper feedback.

hmmmm, was discussing about a dedicated motorcycle track (change track layout every 2-3 years) within Klang valley with some interested parties.

Personally, I dont think anyone in MAL would pay to use a dedicated bicycle/MTB/cyclo/4X track.

Your speedplays have a larger market then that.

*
uh, it would be cheaper for the country if road users were trained properly rather then tax the 'lowly' cyclist.

'How?' would you ask, lets see : lower accident rate, less strain on public hospitals, less strain on police system, less strain on the judiciary, higher up time (provided the 'alleged' victim has catholic like work values), pay taxes/bills on time (more $ flowing in general), have more sex in turn more children and avoid a greying population.

Yes, cyclist with properly adjusted seats have a strong libido or we do without support from sidenafil strengthened pills (there the blue pill) . Old joke is to look at China's population ( they had ill fitting bicyckes imagine if they were done right????).

I have yet to touch on pollution, health (mental/physical), lower traffic needs, what did I miss, I am sure I missed a bus load laugh.gif

Verbatim

Then there is problem number one, enforcement.

After which, my uncles sons wife's brothers dads brothers sisters son can settle one.......if you know what I mean.

Xtend Verb

trained properly means driving like "ah pek" and "ah poh" which i doubt 70% of the driving population is fond off when they are still asking to raise expressway speedlimits

furthermore, if everyone bikes... not accounting the money a certain someone makes from the automotive industry... many would be out of a job if this were to happen, imagine p1 and p2 cutting jobs up and dowb... bad for rakyat as well...
*
well, I voluntarily practice 5 feet rule or slow down and I drive pedal to the metal 60-80% of the time. One word, awareness. That's all.

I dont think it would impact the the automotive industry that badly. There is this mechanism that God has put on us, which is called the adjustment period option not to do so is probably long term suffering and imminent death.

To add, if such a massive move would occur.......it would create new jobs and encourage more (low income) investments at a lower level to create a more level income group. I can go on forever, but close la laugh.gif my 'sifu' ( Iwas an understudy and he didnt receive any formal education what soever) said, 'eat less'

QUOTE(butthead @ Feb 16 2013, 12:03 AM)
in theory, yes... it is up to who has the bigger balls to take in more banned substance and endanger themselves... but until the day that the sport itself find ways to effectively police the use of drugs short of invading one's privacy...no one will ever know if everyone is racing clean...

same situation as F1 years ago when they got fed up with teams hiding traction and launch control software within their ECU softwares... they could not tell or find who has it and who hasn't and the best they could do is "not to ban it" as it causes some teams to be furious when they suspect rival teams of having it while they have not (or have it but still wanted to complain) by analyzing off the grid launch videos and engine noises during corner entry and exits...only until recent years that they have found a brilliant way to standardized ECU units across all teams did they re-ban it again...

not an argument to say let riders dope as they like as that is not the very healthiest thing to do... but, there isn't much point to get unsatisfied (from a spectator's POV, unless i am andy riis) at who's who is suspected of doping because this is solely the reasons this guys exist in the first place...because of some humanly impossible feats we choose to believe in, or in other words feats that catches the our attention as we ourselves could not do it...

would i say over the years i have not cast doubts over alberto contador's 2009 verbier ascent? lance's comeback 2.0 at the age of 38? efforts of team astana controlling the 2009 tour peloton almost day in day out (which i think is a harder act than team sky in 2012 for the fact that other big threat teams exists and a more jagged parcours)? lance's attack on pantani at hautacam (with the shaking of the il pirata's bald head when he realizes he could not follow the accelerations) having drawn him into a crazy mano-a-mano combat over 100K's away from the finishing line (yes, proven to be drugs. but still made you question his performance during those days),  not to mention how le doper manage to ride everyone off his wheels after giving "the look" and many other le doper incidences, lemond (even) during his final TT against hinault to win his grand tour title by a measly few seconds (can an aerobar really prove that much difference?), "the cannibal" which we can't leave out come doping? winning many multiple races in the same year while winning the tour or even the triple crown of cycling of double grand tours in a single year (not once, but 3 times in his career... it must have come down to some magic potions)? almost unheard of nowadays when winning the giro-tour combo is admitted to be almost impossible...

yes, wiggins tone on the doping stance might have change from years back like kimmage states, but he has also came into the limelight since 2009 along with the increase of pressure as team captain... but i think to be fair, anyone is gonna get offended being asked the same question repeatedly year in year out... would anyone say mark doped because he too went berserk at some journos when they kept asking lance related or doping questions at press conferences...

if come 2013 team sky can repeat the same act with saxo and radioshack in the play, then it would arouse my curiosity...

having the media manipulating how the spectators think by throwing proven / unproven and facts/theories around and working yourself up is not the best way to enjoy the sport... if you are against wiggins because you were rooting for cadel in 2012... i would have understood a whole lot more the reasons behind it... but just because of some nut jobs trying to prove themselves right and show that they have been abused by armstrong publicly over years of tormented media life is just no reason to... which is why i treat it as an entertainment or else i would have flown to france, camp by the road side for days waiting for the peloton to pass which ends in mere minutes year after year...

having all the bikes at the same weight is also not really making every bike the same... one bike might have a lighter set of wheels with all the ceramic bearings and techno whistles and a chunky frame while the other might be saving watts with an aero shaped wheel at the expense of lightweight while still staying within the same weight limitations... the bikes have already grown to the point that it could be so light that mechanics have to start adding leads to their bikes or use heavier parts just to meet the UCI weight limits... it's a matter of throwing weight around nowadays...
*
shocking.gif

veer off topic but still relevant.

Reminds of a time when I went into a club by accident (real) and girls I dont know suddenly started dancing around me. When I took a closer look, they looked too happy. Oh, the bar served only two things. the first being watered down beer and small bottles of mineral water.

On the contrary, I checked out a halal club co-owned by someone I used to call a friend . The party goers didnt look as happy as the people in the other club I mentioned. sweat.gif

The choice is yours, on what is considered fun. I dont even want to talk about what happened in Amsterdam rclxub.gif .

To close, I will still have fun revelling in Pantani's or Armstrong's efforts. Ah Wiggins cai, maybe not so much since UCI and whatnots went on a witch hunt. LA did more within and beyond the sport then the lot of them piled up together.

There is a long list of dopers on 'wiki'. Look under 'List of Doping Cases in Cycling', you guys can cross reference with whatever list at hand for the sake of validity.

QUOTE(butthead @ Feb 18 2013, 11:10 AM)
fulcrum racing 3 - spokes are not as expensive as R1 or R0... but at local price here of almost RM1.8k... i might be thinking of upping my limit to fit the R1 in as the R1 is stiffer with the broad aluminum spokes, not necessarily a whole lot lighter but the stiffness makes a difference if you need it.. replacement spokes on the R3 are more expensive than conventional spokes but not as bad as R1 and R0 which is over RM50 per piece...

mavic ksyrium elite - would be the most sensible wheel for the price paid, spoke replacement might be a worry if you don't have a mavic shop nearby and it might not be as cheap as normal spoke although not exorbitant in price. I think price of SLS (SL is no longer available in 2013 range i believe) might be out of question unless you are willing to increase until beyond RM2k...

campy zonda - problem of having to invest in an extra shimano freehub if your shop does not have one already built with shimano freehub (which they are mostly not) due to it being built for riders running campy components, quite light but not worth price paid

shimano c24 -  don't think a new set is within your budget... the ones we see sold at RM1k - RM1.5k on BBS are stolen sets from shimano factory in johor. New ones especially C24 is much more than that....straight pull spokes reportedly weak with bulky riders and a pain to replace... not sure because of availability or price... for KL, it is both...

ea 90sl - reportedly a very tough wheel with 28r/24f spoking and quite feathery, heard of problems with the hub end cap tension adjustment... but not sure if it is true... and for the price of over 700 USD... makes you consider alternative options

the best is to know if the wheelset is well supported nearby or the shop you visit since lightweight wheelset tend to be less durable and you might want to be mentally prepared when shit happens... spoke breakages are more common in people who don't take care of their wheels... dented rims would mean immediate death, unless your shop stock up on replacement parts.. bearings would be the last to go and mostly due to natural reasons...

i think it is safe to say any of your listed wheels are confirmed a better than your alex wheels... in terms of both rolling resistance and also spin up rate...aero characteristics i would not demand much since no alloy wheels have more than 30 mm of height or it will be massively heavy and negate the purpose of the upgrade in the first place... and 30mm might not make much difference compared to a 24mm model...crosswind wise, unless you have some 404 or 808 type of height, i don't think it's a worry or safe to say you won't become another andy schleck...you might have to put some thoughts on what you prioritize...lightweight or aero? the unfortunate thing is alloy wheels will always not be aero...

or you can look into SRAM S30 wheels as it has torroidal shape copied from old zipps... if it is still around...

Dont feel so bad, join la charitable work. Malaysia is flooded with such services, just steer clear of politicised ones.

Do you have any idea the price of American Classic 420 wheelset ? Saw a few pre-loved sets being sold on BBS around 1.5K....thank you Oh harnessed one.

I thought you better then that.....should read...Uber Nympho la

never try never know.....I was helping a friend who recently found out he was HIV+. so I spent my free time there when he had no visitors or the times that are the quietest.

The funniest experience I had there was, the old man next to my friends bed had terminal lung cancer. I chatted with him too because I only saw he had one or two visitors who looked like they were the ones who were dying, and after awhile he told me not to smoke.....I replied that I didnt he gave me a bewildered look and said NVM. All this is in a public hospital.

Wah, 1K USD....must have a lot of fake ones floating around then.

Ouch ouch ouch just experienced my first crash since ive been riding 800+km ago.. wtf wtf wtf ... was rushing back home coz it was about to rain and it had already drizzled previously so the roads were slightly wet. Was approaching a roundabout which I go through daily and have even done so in the pouring rain before. As I was turning in the roundabout.. taking a 9 of clock turn .. I leaned in slightly and felt the front sliding and before I knew it I was on the road ... I think my right knee hit the top tube as I was falling and majority of the force was taken by my right wrist and right knee as I crashed onto tarmac ... bike looks OK and after giving it a look over I noticed the right bar tape near the drops are torn/scratched .. front right brake lever also ate tarmac ... rear derailleur looks fine ... majority of the impact was taken by the right pedal ...

Now right wrist and knee hurts like f*** .. just glad that there wasn't any car close to me when that happened

get one size smaller. isn't 49 too small for you? i'm 160 and i ride on 49

I am 188cm but my torso, arms and legs are quite different in length from my other fellow 188'rs. That being so, a 'pro' fitted me into a 58cm frame which I put in the store room for more then 15 years after riding it a few km's.

Some time ago I test rode a medium large frame about 56cm. It worked great, the guy fitted best at that point. when I got off I can see the seat is about 4 cms above the stem line. I felt I could do with a longer stem +10/15mm and a wider bar 44cm (slightly less). All this in under 1 hour of test ride. I have yet to delve into correct crank lengths. sweat.gif

FYI I no expert and sometimes I am at a lost for words. So I 'test' based on the feedback of my body. Then after that, try to recall from what I read from Sir Sheldon Brown (they should knight the guy)
