Hey guys, i was thinking of reigniting my passion with cycling again. Used to compete alot during my secondary school days under novice and amateur races. Back then was the era of Miguel Indurain, Bjarne Riis, Jan Ullrich, Marco Pantani.. Now completely lost touch.
Whats a good bike to recommend for a budget of around 10k? I had dropped by FHL to look at some Pina's and was recommended FP Team with 105 groupset. What u guys think of this bike? Any other recommendations?

im using alloy wheels but the bite doesnt seem enough even on dry, cant imagine on wet days. I'm not asking for vbrake braking power which may send me flying. But enough braking without exerting too much force from the hood.

Yeah, try ride at a slower pace but try do higher cadence on a light gear. Like they say, spin to win.

When i built my own wheels there was no gauging equipment for spoke tension. As long the spoke is not loose when i pinch 2 spokes together and it runs true, all's good. This is on dt swiss conventional spokes.

QUOTE(butthead @ Mar 14 2013, 12:01 PM) DT Champion... straight gauge and tough as hell... i wrecked my mavic open pro crashing it into a pothole and the spokes did not even break... you just trued your wheel by using your brakes as guides?? at least got the truing machine right? Yeah i used to have a truing machine, was custom welded by a malay friend which was a cyclist as well. I broke alot of spokes especially during climbs especially those taiwan made spokes, after using DT not a single problem. Got so fed up of breaking spokes and sending them to shop so i ended up learning the craft to build n repair my own.

Guys, which mini pumps do you use? Looking for some reliable ones, those roswheel ones look and feels fragile. Not a fan of using CO2's .

QUOTE(butthead @ Mar 14 2013, 03:32 PM) i think pump is more or less the same... each has it's own problems...just buy one that don't have some funky insert adapters like topeak pocket rocket mini's... the adapters will drop out from a rattling bike and the pump will be useless afterwards... using birzman now... a mini one... not easy to pump because of it's stroke length... but OK so far and no rusts or broken seals even though i was the bike with pump on the frame... Alrighty, cheers bud.

QUOTE(miaopurr @ Mar 14 2013, 03:50 PM) i'm using this now http://www.genuineinnovations.com/bicycle/...minum-mini.htmlvery convenient due to co2, and can manually pump, altho not really helpful. coz of small bore i used this before http://www.crankbrothers.com/pumps_alloy.phpcan choose high volume or high pressure pumping. quite ok. can achieve decent pressure. had a friend who used this before http://www.lezyne.com/en/products/hand-pum...;pressure-drivebetter i think. no risk of breaking the valve head. Thanks bro, the 1st pump seems cool for being versatile. Great for patching a tube, when using co2 to detect leaks can be wasteful. While i do not prefer CO2, it may come in handy when riding in groups to reduce waiting time.

During the early 90's when mobile phones were still a luxury to own. We always ride with two 1 ringgit coins tucked underneath our tights. Pushing my bike for miles on a clipless shoe at a kampung road on a raining evening. FML. Thank god a friendly chap voluteered to fetch me to the pekan for patching at a motor shop.

QUOTE(butthead @ Mar 29 2013, 11:05 PM) well, watever yanks their KMC x10sl gold chains... each person has their preferences... in the crit world.. aluminum rulez because crit races might end in crashes that can cause even grown men to cry... so, it is understandable why such events require a more robust bike that can take a hit while sacrificing some performance... neither do i... problem i think is mr.jgx started out with a carbon rig and doesn't realize that he did not mature through the cycling experience of owning something lesser... like in the audio world... we say you never really appreciate something until it is missing from your system... maybe i'd want back an alloy bike after getting a super stiff carbon.. but i won't go back to aluminum... maybe tit-a-nium is still a posibility... worst case, reynolds / columbus steel... camwhore... hahah... tats sad... Very good point there, carbon definitely a no no for Crits. Infact even grand tour riders prefer aluminium handles over carbon handles, minor crashes can easily break ur carbon handle and waste precious time to get replacement bike. Unless you're lance dopestrong, can win a stage even with a broken chainstay. Crits are very high paced and bike handling skills very important especially in taking corners at high speeds. Crashing is common when people eat into your line or wheels overlap in bottle necks. This post has been edited by geno: Apr 1 2013, 10:48 AM

Cant wait to watch paris roubaix. Yesterday Mr Spartacus's acceleration on paterberg was fking superb. Mr pinch-ass cant do anything to maintain the pace and left to die. From there his time trial mode open up the gap.
