The best replacement post to shave off some weight, after hrs of browsing the net looking for the one that is suitable to my frame color is:

Fizik Cyrano Carbon

And Sworks SL Carbon, but it's hard to find the all black color, and no online shopping for it as well.

I descended the Jebel Hafeet mountain with my new aluminium bike and it handled pretty well. Not going too fast around the corners as the wind is freaking mad! It was a sandstorm day and we picked the wrong day to climb.

One hour of climb, not bad at all! Descend in about 10 min. 72km/hr top speed- scary but nice, smooth and wide  'track' with almost no traffic at all.
I reckon, on a fine day you can go eighty km hr?
*
Hey thanks! If not because of the wind, I think I can shave off 10 mins from the climb..it was blowing like a gale. My friend was zig zagging up a very steep climb when a gusty head wind came in right on his side and pushed him and his bike down on the road..luckily no car behind!

When we reached the top, I can hold my bike with one hand on the top tube and it will be blown away at your waist level just like holding a flag!!!

Crosswinds came in unpredictable area..I was gaining speed in calm sections when suddenly crosswinds came and kinda push me off my line and it happened many times. You can't hear how many times I say SHIT during the descend though tongue.gif

Owh and my friend new Orbea (Silver) wobbled during the descend. His bike costs around 17k but still it gave him a surprise with a highspeed wobble. I never experienced it yet and hopefully I will not have to encounter it.

speed wobbles is not biased... it happens to anything and everything if it is at the wrong place and the wrong time...

a slight wobble shakes your nerves... it is by comparison much safer as long as it is not the type where you can't even clamp the bike down and it starts straying all over the road...
*
But then whenever it happened it will be damn scary!

Anyway for a seat post, what is the advantages of having a longer post? 270mm vs 330mm?

Slow is good. Build the base first by riding more kms, magically though you will see your avg speed inceease and you can sustain the speed longer

ride more then~ easy

True. Even if riding on trainer is damn boring at least you can get to sweat and pedal. Trainer is the cyclist's best friend! Just do 1hr everynight will do but don't ride for nothing. Google around for some trainer sessions to make that 1hr meaningful.

entry level carbon maa..nothing to brag about it..one thing for sure, you still can achieve the same speed as bike that is more expensive, but perhaps with a bit of more effort..

lemme add some poison

some powercordz prime cables and housing, supposedly the lightest productions sets now...

some schmolke cockpit... the same ones used on gunter mai's light bike...
http://www.schmolke-carbon.de/carbon/carbon_de/index.php#

some ax lightness orion carbon calipers
http://ax-lightness.de/en/cycling/bike-com...he-perfect-mix/

some carbon chainrings from fibre-lyte... the lightweight 2 should be a good compromise...
http://www.fibre-lyte.co.uk/

hack your SRAM Force RD with some fibre-lyte carbon derailleur cage and some berner 13t upper 15t lower pulleys
http://www.fibre-lyte.co.uk/fl/fl_cycles_c..._gear_mech.html

as for wheels, some extralite hyperclimb c26
http://www.extralite.com/Products/hyperclimb%20C26.htm

or you can opt for some extralite ultrahubs laced to enve 1.25's....

wow..there's more exotice weightweenies stuff out there it seems! too expensive and not suitable for daily practice ride lah. I can't have a bike that is too light else I'll get swipe off by the wind.

Check out below how the wind was like during my climb last weekend. Not even zipp or whatever technology could save me from the wind. It's madness!

not till jeremy clarkson says so...

jeremy claims the stelvio pass to be the best driving road in the world in the 10th series when they went in search of the best driving roads in the world and then later in the next few seasons it was superseded by the Transfagarasan in romania....

so it is

1) Transfagarasan
2) Stelvio Pass
wat is so jealous about going back to a big sand bowl???

have you not seen sand before?
*
I have a plan to go to Stelvio perhaps next year if everything goes to plan. Nothing here la it's dead boring I prefer riding in Malaysia's greenery every weekend...owh how i miss those times!

you know the stelvio pass is 6000km away from where you are on the far ends of italy rite... bordering switzerland i think....
*
Haha I know, but the idea was to do our own cycling tours on some famous cycling routes and conquer the climbs. Well I've sparked the idea of doing that, and I already got 2 buddies highly interested. Maybe Pyreneese, and the likes. Stelvio and Pyreenese is different right?

Do you know or recommend any other beautiful scenic famous mountain passes?

I got until 2015 to make it come true before I went back to KL for good.

ohhh... don't get me started on climbs...

i think the easiest is to see if Trek has cycling tours during your travel dates...they do organize this cycling travel tours for tourists
http://www.trektravel.com/france-bike-tours.php

or you can go during July and maybe even join the etape du tour which the masses will ride the queen stage of the tour 1 day before the peloton passes it on race day...i heard it was damn fun...
http://www.letapedutour.com/ET1/us/homepage.html

as for climbs... you can't miss the big 5 climbs of the tours

1) Col du Galibier 8600ft, (just a u turn at the top if i am not wrong...nothing to see except for some graffitied signposts and roads...) on the way up, you climb the Col du Telegraphe as well if i am not wrong
2) Col du Tourmalet 6900ft, (can visit the Jacques Goddet memorial at the top of the climb)
3) Mont Ventoux 6200ft,  (the wind blown bald mountain)
4) Alpe d'Huez 6100ft, (need i explain more???, the famous 21 hairpins to the ski town)
5) Col de l'Iseran 9,000ft (just an epic climb)
5.5) Col de Portet d'Aspet 3500ft, (not epic, but for me personally because it is such a part of the tour with Fabio Casartelli's death in 1995 and his memorial on the descent where he had his crash)

other notable climbs if you can do it which is usually quite close or linked to one another...
1) Plateau de beille around 6,000ft
2) Port de Pailheres around 6,500 ft
3) Col de la Colombiere around 5,000ft
4) Col de la Bonette close to 9,000ft if i am not wrong
4.5) Avoriaz don't know how hight, but just because the ski town looks so fantastic sitting at the edge of a cliff

usually the climbs in france are distributed to 3 main regions, usually the Alps, Pyrenees and also the massif central...and some climbs actually goes over the borders of italy or switzerland

i believe climbs like stelvio pass is also accessible from france via a bit of driving if i am not wrong...

interesting?  brows.gif  brows.gif  brows.gif
*
Haha i'm bookmarking this and it will be our tour reference. Thanks for the organiser links. If can tackle all the famous climbs in the tour then it'll be good lah haha.

Just hope that my knees can cope with all the climbs! My highest elevation so far is still the Fraser climb..looks lame compare to those alps and Pyreenese climbs.
No need Stelvio la for sure couldnt cope anymore aftet the tours tongue.gif
