Hi Sifu,

A silly question:

Let's say I am willing to travel to East Malaysia to buy from you, how can I get it back to West Malaysia for restricted species? rclxub.gif

This thread is sure silent......
Anyway I am in the process of re-building an enclosure for my tortoise. The list I should have are;

- UV light - 1 x PT-2192 Solar Glo 125W (inclusive UVA and UVB plus Heat)  & 1 x PT-2056 ET Porcelain Clamp Reflector Large

- Substrate - I will use Alfafa Hay.

- Bathing everyday or every other day.

- Food - Mainly Mazuri.
Any other suggestion in general for my setup?
*
May I know the size of the enclosure? And which specie are you keeping?

The species is Kleinmann's tortoise.

It is almost wiped out, even in Egypt itself. I intended to search throughout the world for a female tortoise so I can pair them up for future rebreeding.

Does both two species posses different in character?

Both pairs are slightly above a thousand each. They were not babies when I got them. My 2 leopard are 7 & 9 inches each; My 2 star are 5 & 6.5 inches each.

What about yours? biggrin.gif

Around 4 figures as well. Not the price is not the issue, availability is sweat.gif

How about your setting for them? Care to share with newbie like me? biggrin.gif
*
I am also a newbie.. less than a year experience.. tongue.gif

I'm keeping the leopard in a blue fiber tank with black soil mixed with coconut coil.

I'm keeping my star in a cage with those black floor mat. Not an idea enclosure but I try to soak them a bit more frequent to avoid dehydration.

I have limited space as I am keeping all four on my balcony.. hmm.gif

What about you? Care to share?

I am having a hard time searching for a suitable substrate for my tortoise. May I know where do you bought your black soil and coco coil? Currently using hay but not recommended in a long run because it contains too much protein that will cause kidney failure on continuous consumption.

Also if there is any chance, do your current house near any pet shop? I need to purchase UVB bulb and thermometer and whatnot but nonono (@ nonono) don't have the stock right now sweat.gif
*
Just go to any nusery, get those black soil premixed with coconut coil. Tell them you want those without any pesticide added.

I'm not staying near to any pet shop. I will usually go to a pet shop somewhere at ampang. After u pass by waterfront, a satay station, keep to your right immediately and turn right at the traffic light. Immediately u will see the pet shop on your left (the 1st one at the row of shop lot). Sorry I can't remember the name.

You can also go to Reptiles Planet & Pet Studio at jalan klang lama but I try not to as I find that all the things there are expensive. Look at the price they r selling the aldabra.. --> MYR 9,500.. rclxub.gif

Even with less than 500 wild specimen ( less than that number in captive )  Yniphora can only command less than RM 5000 a pc ( last known price of 3" ) HOW much do you think an Egyptian is worth ( you can think many things BUT there are a few hundred captive specimen in the world ) I know many of those colony - Europe , USA , parts of Asia including Malaysia ..................

EGYPTIAN are not that rare overall as a sp !!

Pricing is what you think its worth - IF YOU LIKE its priceless , if you dont need it anymore its worthless till you found another who wants and needs it  !!

SINCE you mention me , I reply what I know !!
*
I would like to ask a question: Why is aldabra much expensive since it is not as rare as yniphora? thumbup.gif

Yni ( cant be legally owned in most case ) cant be compared with Aldabra ( can be legally owned and legally bred elsewhere - takes years many years to mature to reproduce thus the higher price ? )
Most sp that are sold in Malaysian market can reproduced in under 10 years - Aldabra takes about 15-20 years to do that .

Black soil + something + something? Without pesticide smile.gif

Huh? What is "+ something + something"?

To make it simple: Usually I just go to any nursery, tell them I need black soil mixed with coconut coil without any pesticide added. To save your concern, it's better to go to a nursery that you can trust.

The above is just my way. It might be wrong. Better to get the opinion of other forumers who are more experience. I'm only under-a-year tortoise keeper.. tongue.gif

Double checked regarding the existance of pesticide in this soil - its none.

I am concern if they use animal poop as fertilizer, like a bat poop or something. I am afraid that will bring harm to my tortoise health. So as precaution, I only cover 1/5 of the total area with this soil and see his development.

So far everything is good smile.gif

7.5ft. x 5 ft. x 0.5 ft. Its the minimum size for mature tortoise. Will build bigger soon as I found appropriate plastic enclosure (really having a hard time searching for this).

The side is short so I have to put indoor fence but this little fella is too lazy to climb over biggrin.gif
*
Wow, that is big for an indoor enclosure.

Mind to share where to get such a big plastic tank? Mind is only 3ft x 2ft and I put it at my balcony..

Mind you that my enclosure is the minimal for ONE, MATURE tortoise. The bigger the happier they will be.

I just purchase from hardware shop. But let me teach you the tips and trick for indoor enclosure when you face the difficulties in finding the appropriate container size;

1 - Find a brick. A construction brick, commonly reddish-orange in color or simply the white, crappy and brittle one. Either type will do.
2 - Arrange in square or rectangular, but use my size as minimal measurement (unless you are keeping sulcata, which is very much better to set an outdoor enclosure).
3 - Go to any hardware store or stationary store or botanical store, buy a plastic cover. Like curtain shower or the one that people use to cover car or raincoat.
4 - Cover the base and sides of the arranged brick.
5 - Put your substrate and arrange the setting as you like!

Hope my tips somehow helps your tortoise to be happier! biggrin.gif

Many thanks to you, Mr. Doctor.

I wish I can do that but currently I'm staying in a condo. I have already sueeze two 3ft x 2ft fiber tanks & a cage of about the same size. Can you imagine how cramp it is? Plus I have to deal with a gf who keeps nagging on my tortoises.. tongue.gif

I have to do it slowing 1 step at a time in order to have perfect hearing in my old years.. tongue.gif cool.gif

You can somehow potty-train them. Not too precise, but at least they know when a specific time for them to poop.

You have to soak them on the same time, everyday, for approximately the similar duration (15-30 minutes, replace the water twice). My tortoise will poop during the soaking and then very uncommon for him to poop after that. Hence the room should be quite clean from their excrement.
*
Haha, tq for your advice.
Too bad I don't have any extra room (staying ina studio).
Already I kena up, down, left, right for soaking them in the bathtub.. tongue.gif
Waiting for next yr moving to a landed house with big garden.. biggrin.gif

All my tortoises poop as and when they are happy.
I work long hours and soaking of 4 tortoises separately take up at least an hr plus.. rclxub.gif
