QUOTE(lamjunrong @ Jan 29 2013, 02:25 PM) i uses canon 100mm f2 for heat shot portrait, on APSC is just fine and sharp, plus i uses samyang fisheye for street photography canon dont have 35mm f1.8? should be lighter than 35mm f1.4off topic question, should i dump my 50mm f1.8 and grab a 35mm f1.4? heard many user found 50mm is very hard to compose picture and quite narrow for street, but like its light weight on 50mm lar which samyang are u using? 8mm or 14mm? QUOTE(coduosp @ Jan 29 2013, 03:45 PM) what system? for nikon DX i'd say 10.5, 35, 85 |

QUOTE(yfyap69 @ Feb 3 2013, 05:13 PM) I bought mine for rm3460 when it first launch from Hike in PG. Not sure the price now. Don't rush into buying too many lens at 1 go. You need to familiarized with the lens first before trying out another one. hah rm3460 for the 85mm f/1.8G lens? u serious ah bro... damn overpriced. i bought a few weeks after it became available on shashinki... around rm1500 only eh |

QUOTE(shootkk @ Feb 7 2013, 09:02 AM) I'm not saying it's good or bad. Just pointing out the distortion. Sometimes distortion can work but most times it doesn't. 35mm (on crop sensor) is really bad for headshots IMO.For myself I would like to portray things as close to the original state as possible. To bring out the subject's natural appeal rather than to distort the image and present a 'not-true-to-life' view. Having said that, I am not saying that one cannot take portraits with a wide angle lens. You can do that. Maybe as part of a series with other shots that are not distorted. Also please take note that the 35mm lens is great to use for street shots. If you and the subject is separated by a distance then there will be little distortion. It's more pronounced when you get close - like when you shoot portraits you will usually be only a few feet away from the subject. The reason why a 50mm or an 85mm lens is preferable when shooting portraits (apart from having little to no distortions) is that those focal lengths will minimize the view-able background area around your subject. This helps to eliminate unwanted background distractions and puts more attention to the subject of your shots. QUOTE(KTCY @ Feb 7 2013, 09:21 AM) I'm a prime shooter ! Used to? now shooting what?Used to have 24/1.4, 35/1.4 35/2 , 50, 135 , 105 and couldn;t remember what else |

QUOTE(BlizzardCraft @ Feb 14 2013, 01:09 AM) guys, was thinking is there much diff in image quality/sharpness when using primes compared to zooms ? ( in a normal people view ) maybe primes are not that much more sharper but they certainly do 'appear' sharper because of bokeh. the blur background emphasizes the sharp foreground. e.g. something would look more 'yellow' if shot with a blue background.no money get 30 >< so went 35 ! enjoying it XD yeah =D welcome !! |

in the end, no one really cares about noise.
DOF too shallow/deep, motion blur...those will break your photos |

aiya guys.. no need to quarrel about image quality laa. in the end it's what we shoot that matters. whatever lens or body u use is up to u, as long as u enjoy using it
for primes i simply want the balance of bokeh and weight. a 18-105 lens is, light, small but wont get me the bokeh that i want. a 24-70 f2.8 gets me the bokeh, but is too big and heavy (lets not talk about $ here). that being said, i just added another lens to kawtim my prime collection XD sigma 15mm 2.8... so now i have 15mm (bonus feature, can double as a macro lens), 35mm and 85mm. macam no need to buy anymore lenses already ahahah |
