I use my laptop to watch movies, after the era of HD I started collecting many movies which is HD rip of 1080p mostly in MKV format. These videos were getting stuck while playing in my laptop .
Thought that my Laptop might be too fragile for 1080p. Later came down to 720p, but this also getting stuck frequently yawn.gif .., but not as much as 1080p, quite irritating.

Can some techie confirm me wats the problem and wat shud i do ?

- I use VLC player for play back, tried KM player too. Both getting stuck
- I try Try installing K-Lite Codec Pack also didnt work.

Hope some one will help me, searched for a remedy every where, but din't get it. I assume that my laptop is too old to take 1080p or 720p videos anymore .., Or is there any settings that i should do or any codec needed ?

I feel it is codec issue though.
My ye-olde pentium-M laptop can play 30mins 720P MKV file without issue using the CCCP codec.
http://www.cccp-project.net/

Uninstall those VLC and K-lite codec, then install this CCCP codec.
If issue still persist, your HDD might got performance issue edi.

Hi nadhirao,

Apart from the steps shared by other 'community members', you may also try re-installing 'graphic drivers'; it may help. If the notebook has 'Switchable graphics', please ensure that the media players (VLC/KM) are being handled by the 'Discrete graphics adapter'. Also try playing the 'videos' with an 'alternate video player' like 'Windows Media Player'.

Hope this helps.

It might be your laptop specs is too low, so its not fully support playing HD files.

Try this on http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/

but best you let us know your laptop model. Older machines can't even play 720p properly.

Nowadays you have even 10bit MKV files, which is even more stressing than 8bit. In fact 10bit 720p MKV could strain the system more than 8bit 1080p MKV.

update your graphic drivers... you might as well as make sure the directx is up to date..

uninstall ALL previous codecs

install CCCP - Combined Community Codec Pack (or latest K-Lite, MPC-HC)

My Acer Aspire 5500z (Intel GMA 900 sweat.gif ) can play 24-mins 10-bit 720p MKV without stuck when play it with MPC-HC + CCCP combo.
I had tried to play 15GB 1080p MKV on the old laptop too but it will guarantee stick after few seconds of playback. sweat.gif

all depends on your setup.

my AMD E-350 with HD 5750 can play 10bit 720p MKV no problem BUT it takes a bit longer when you skip scenes. If subtitles are fancy then it adds to the processor load, can lead to stuttering.

upgraded to AMD A8-3850 and all smooth sailing.
