The reasons for me to do this poll is to find out who use thier allowance to buy games because im thinking to ask my parents to give me an allowance

They'll probably ask me this 2
Reason?
How much?

I want you guys to tell me how did you get your parents to give you an allowance and how much did you get a month

Help is appreciated

Thank you

Should be pretty obvious for some - working people like me have NO allowance, so I save up what I can every month for that ONE DS game. It's not easy, but it ensure s I appreciate it.

Id have to say that only since I started working was I able to buy original (GOOD QUALITY) games (and I come from a middle class family).

I would have to say that only people (and children of parents) in the upper middle class income could afford to buy original games on a regular basis. Unless if the children work part time and save up that is.

For others they would have to be VERY choosey in order to do so.
IMHO it is not something that we have to be ashamed of. It is a fact of our economy. Until the price of a game title is in proportion to 20%-30% of the minimum wage income/month of our country; then Id have to say that original games are the previlege of the wealthy.

For those who come from lower then middle class income parents, Id say we would like to hear YOUR story of obtaining an original title before you started working.

Yup. Work, work and more work. There are months that I have to forget buying games since the bills and all else don't allow it (try living on your own, paying house loan, car loan, etc etc) and then there are months that I see MP:H and I HAD to have it. So this month kurang makan lah....

I'm 28, btw.

Work of course.

I remember in 2001 when i start working as a research assistance, my first pay i gave some money to my mom then buy a ps2.

Left with rm150 for the whole month. then only eats once in the morning for the whole month, and always looking at the office buletin for any department meeting to join them for after meeting food. Ha ha... down 4 kilo that month. But worth it..... the PS2 still working like a charmed.

Now ownes xbox, NGC, GBA, start collecting money for PS3.

Money is a problem.
Solution: Work

Work also not enough money.
Solution: Find another method of earning cash. (like sell sifat)

Use your imagination. Get a 2nd job or something. (like sell sifat, lol)

But honestly, yeah, I too got problems keeping up with games with my dough. Heck, I've even spent my Tetris money already. Planning to find some side-job to do. thumbup.gif

LoL. Dude, just because it's new, doesn't mean you HAVE to buy it NOW, you know. Or even ever. There's a reason review sites like metacritic exist, so you spend on the titles you REALLY want.

On the other hand, maybe we're talking two different languages here. No responsibilities, no monthly payments to make, it's easier to splurge on yourself.

Besides, cannot stand how much also, if no money, Djinn's not gonna sponsor the game for you biggrin.gif

owe or own ? blink.gif

and on this issue, i just want to say this.... priortize. I think most of the peeps here already said it.. you dont need to buy every single game out there. I'm married (yes, sihumchai, i'm married smile.gif ) and as responsible husband whistling.gif i have to settle all the monthly bills and loans that take about 75 % of my income. Still i managed to buy 1 ori game per month. How did i do it without resorting to eat maggie mee every month? Priortize.

Agreed, actually i was introduced to games by them, back then in 1985, my dad bought himself the Atari2600. It was fun back then. Then he got busy no more games except for the x86 computer in 1987 which he used for work but also play classic games like 'digger' and 'snake' (snake in nokia meets pacman) he was crazy with those games. As a kid, it was fun watching them. Well that was it. No more new console until 2001 where i bought myself my ps2 with my first salary.

getting your parents to buy games instead of using your own hard earned money gives less satisfaction somewhat.

QUOTE(crimsonhead @ Mar 29 2006, 05:57 PM)
i know, but im still young XD

Yep, when i was young, satisfaction still there. Where else can you get money? Plus it was fun if your parent play with you. Now i have 2 kids (3y and 1y) its a nice family evening activity together. My 3y daughter liks to play eyetoy with me.

Ahh... memory lane.

Btw, my dad still plays games if he come to my house - his favourate? - TimeCrisis series - Heh he. 54 years, still a player. biggrin.gif Now the blood have comedown to his grandchildren.

spend yr money wisely. an original game per month wont that bad if u have yr budget. game is for fun and sometime satisfaction when u able to achieve higher level. dont always look for new game but end up u did not even finish a game. it happened to me before when i own a sega saturn. now plan to buy nds with only original game.

anyway, i work and use my salary to buy the O game.

just my 2 cents.

Tell him to go work in mcdonalds or something that pays around rm5 per hour
8 hours = rm40
10 days = rm400

or divide it by half

4 hours a day for 20 days

In many cultures thread necromancy is considered a vile crime punishable usually punished with social discrimination.

I say its just lucky this one wasnt taken to the cleaners in the last forum cleanup.

There are lessons to be learnt here about buying ori.

From work of course. Do your homework on which game you like best and buy it. Take your time playing it (1-2 months) and by the time you finish it, another good game gets released and go get the new game. Sell the previous game if you don't plan to keep it.

Unless you're the type that buys 2-3 games 1 shot and then sell 'em after playing halfway. Hehehe...

For me, I work to feed my gaming habit. But it is also work that prevents me from indulging in games...lol, it's a vicious cycle.

But seriously, games aren't that expensive ler in Malaysia. RM150-RM200 for a game which gives you hours upon hours of entertainment is pretty ok whut. RM200 can hardly buy you 30 mins of fun 'elsewhere'...bwahahahah wink.gif

actually, ppl doesnt buy all the new game that release, even in US. Becos we are used to get pirated games which cost a mere 15 bucks so we can afford to sapu most of the game. Ppl do save money for games, watch out for upcoming games which u like and save for it.

1) Don't go out. It saves you the RM2.70/litre journey.
2) Don't socialise. It saves you the unnecessary expenditures.
3) Don't buy any other items besides for gaming purposes.
4) Don't eat. Eat only when you feel you wanted to pass out.
5) Don't buy new clothes, unless the existing ones can't be used anymore.
6) Don't pay your bills, except your electrical bill. Internet bill if you play online. hmm.gif

for me, i work.

i am very selective in the Ori games that I buy. For good PS2 old titles, i get from Play Asia when they have discounts. Some games are as cheap as RM50 , and worth the collection.

for new games (PS3, PSP), generally i will wait for sometime for the price to drop. so mostly i play games that are out for 2-3 mths. also read the reviews prior buying..

and for games with no collection value i try to sell them in lowyat forum or lelong to exchange for some money back.

currently play asia having as much as 25% discount on in-stock items, so i bought 4 games smile.gif total about RM200

Eh, since we're on the topic of how bloody expensive it is to buy original games, anyone ever wondered how come we don't have a videogame rental service in Malaysia? I mean, it makes sense right. Any thoughts on this? Anyone doing it currently ar?

GAMERS HIDEOUT hv rental for games....

actually for me original games not that expensive ; like xbox360 games its around rm150 to rm240 , depends on what title(s) we wanna purchase..and from that price we get the quality and worth it...

there is a lot of 2nd hand games from lyn members who wanna to sell or trade their used games...so up to us to decide it...for me myself i prefer buy brand new games ; finished sell em via garage sale or pasar malam 360....

thats the good things bout genuine games, got 2nd hand value..

We can't really do game rental service cuz you'll need the corresponding license to be able to do so from the main distributing companies. Sadly, the people renting to others no, no offence, are doing it in a grey area.

Nothing beats robbing banks.
Instead of buying pirated games/dowmloads thus robbing from poor overworked, underappreciated game developers, i rob from the money sucking licensed ah longs.
And then i distribute their ill gotten gains to the aforementioned overworked, underappreciated game developers.

Speaking of current situation i can just say that i'm not buying games frequently now as the titles are not all buy-worthy. Just own a PS3, and only bought MGS4.

So i wouldn't say its expensive yet. Unless that person will buy all the titles that were launched for PS3, that would be a different story la.. Best bet is to wait for the reviews b4 buying la.

Anyway working person here. Enjoy my PS3 with my own hard earned monthly salary. Next target 4 my next BD game is Fallout 3, cause i've been a fan of it since secondary school.
