snr and attenuation is affected by modem?

mine now for DL snr is 7+, attenuation 40+... feel like calling to ask to check the port, but if modem also affects it, i might wanna change modem too..
*
generally no, but some ppl find it changing to another modem did improve something a lil bit. Save your money as snr and attenuation represents the quality of TM cabling network at your current location.

hmmm i see... guess i should call and ask then... it doesnt pose a problem for me but i noticed sometimes my IP address has changed which prolly mean the line was dropped. worried after they fix it, my data rate will become 8mbps instead of the current 10mbps sad.gif

the tech should advise you first not to upgrade as the bad readings you got there. To my understanding snr below 15 you'll get frequent disconnection and your attenuation is saying your house is too far from the cabinet. And the surprise is, you are covered with 8mbps when some ppl with great snr and attenuation does not.

the techs didnt come and check, i just went to tmpoint and ask for it and got it the next day. previously i was on 4mbps, and my snr was 20+, attenuation 40. I don't get frequent disconnection though, but I sometimes realize my IP has been changed, and sometimes if downloading too long I noticed my line will get dropped although I still have IP address shown. this happens maybe about 10 times in the past few weeks.

I'd be content if I can get my SNR to above 15 tho.

Why your DL able to hit over 10000 ?
Mine only 8000 something.

Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps): 509
Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps): 8191
SNR Margin - Upstream (0.1 dB): 255
SNR Margin - Downstream (0.1 dB): 305
Attenuation - Upstream (0.1 dB): 37
Attenuation - Downstream (0.1 dB): 50

Is this normal ? sad.gif

Depends on modem.
My Level One modem overheat easily and would be unstable and frequent disconnection.
TM Innacomm is total rubbish

What I am using now is an old Aztech, able to stay connected up to 2 weeks.

Just give TM a call and treat the technician well I can say nod.gif
If the technician is happy, he might help you modify your internal wiring a bit

It doesn't matter, although 10Mbit port my max speed is 9Mb smile.gif

As long you get 8Mb on actual speed test you are okay

Note : You got better ADSL quality than me

a good modem may help your snr and attenuation.

If you guys aware or it is just me, my snr in 8mbps cukup-cukup makan between 15 and 18 which previously I am getting more than 28 in 4mbps. Is it normal more port been opened snr will drop? however I don't have any issues with connection.

i guess is this concept: unsure.gif
http://www.tp-link.com/en/article/?faqid=21
QUOTE
The SNR Margin is the difference between the actual SNR and the SNR required to run at a given speed. For example, if you need 20dB of SNR to run at 512Kbps, and the actual line SNR is 45dB, then the SNR Margin is 25dB.

The main reason why SNR margins fall as the line speed increases is that the required SNR increases. For example, if increasing the speed from 512Kbps to 2MBps raises the required SNR from 20db to 30dB then the margin left will fall from 25dB to 15dB (as 45dB-30dB = 15dB).

QUOTE(Anitelu @ Jan 31 2013, 03:46 PM)
What is SNR and how does one check it?
