I recently discovered that graduates with a degree in forensic science cannot become a forensic. I knew this from a friend of mine who study took this as a degree. WTH, they say to become a forensic, u have to be a policeman. Then, what does ppl who study forensic science do?

Don't get confused. It's like another "study psychology but cannot be psychiatrist" sort of degree... A psychiatrist is a medical doctor. A psychologist is someone akin to a counsellor and he/she holds a degree in psychology. To be a clinical psychologist, then you need to have postgraduate degree in clinical psychology. Two different qualifications. |

Jeez, it is just an expression. I know the path to become a psychiatrist.
What I mean is people who took forensic thought they are going to be a forensic. People used to thought psychology is linked to becoming a psychiatrist. "It's like another "study psychology but cannot be psychiatrist" sort of degree" is an expression. |

what do you mean by with a forensic science degree you gonna become a forensic? you do work closely with the police no? unless you're a FORENSIC PATHOLOGIST then that's a different story-which requires you having a medical degree followed by specialization.

On computer domain or digital forensics science:
Computer Forensics does not limited to a police force, army, and etc etc. Certain organization need internal forensics experts to recover some 'important' or 'evidence' without gov interventions and knowledge. Sometimes, 'rare' internal cases are means to be handle by internal department only. You didn't want 'outsider' to know what is currently happened in the company or to let your 'secret' to be exposed to the outsider. |

Even if it has CSI-sounding name like 'Forensic Science'. Forensic basically means it's related to court cases.. so it can be anything from fire to accounting to pathology. What I mean is people who took forensic thought they are going to be a forensic. Well, first of all the forensic science I meant are from IPTA my friend went. She just graduated last year. Not forensic accounting or computer forensic. From the program structure, they learn things related to forensic, yet not enough to become a forensic? If it is like that, then what do they do? My friend was a top student but future career ruin by it. I do understand that PDRM or MBBS ppl can become forensic, but what about those studied forensic science?

Felt pity for her... shouldn't this course be explained by your friend's counsellor when she got admitted into the course? even if she was not informed, what was she doing the past 3-4 years during her studies? didn't she explore the types of careers that she can venture into? it's partly your friend's fault that she didn't do enough research for her own future. |

Pity for all those people who took that course. Maybe they only know about it when they on that course already, and to drop the course is not an option for them. Pity.

QUOTE(C-Note @ Jan 25 2013, 06:00 PM) I am sure that local and privatized institutions offer forensic science degree to students. It's a sad trap if these students wasted years of study not being a forensic scientist or fly away from Malaysia to get a job as forensic scientist. |
