There's a growing community of online gaming in iOS as the games are getting more complex, with better storyline, amazing graphics and creative gameplay. But the best feature has got to be MULTIPLAYABILITY. With this feature, one game title can rope in hundreds of thousands of players online and usually lasted for months and years.

Its no longer just shooting flightless birds across the screen or swiping fruits for gems.

With that in mind, I'd like to suggest that Apple Byte create a new sub-topic dedicated for iOS gaming. One that is not under iPhone nor iPad, but for all Apple platform. Its probably also best to disable post counts in such topic since its more of a lounge/casual discussion area than a serious one. Probably you haven't notice, but there's been quite a few thread created for iOS games, but the response has been lukewarm, most probably because it doesn't reach the attention of the target audience, namely the iOS users. Just a few threads to name:

Legends of the Cryptids
Dungeon Hunter 3
Clash Of Clans
Guardian Cross

Of and please do not shove us over at the Gamer's Hideout. Those are mostly console/Pc gamers who are completely a different genre. We're hoping that by having a iOS game thread over at Apple Bytes, we could create a friendly community among LYN members as well as attracting new iOS owners to join.

P/s: We did tried /k/ but the response was as you expected of /k/ mentality. rclxub.gif

Well, we could just have a section at Gamer's Hideout, and the link placed at Apple Byte.

Another way is to have it like Console Couch.

The new one we can have a name for handheld devices, though PS Vita / NDS users might end up going there too.

Generally I like the idea, as I am an Android / iOS gamer too. smile.gif Would be nice to have a discussion area for these.

Some games do last super long but here's the thing I find about games on mobile app - they're generally just short, or too simple to even have any discussion.

Some games have more things to discuss, for example discussion of techniques in Infinity Blade I / II, or like say the monster's moves and all. tongue.gif or Tiny Tower's build or strategy.

In short - I have a feeling most threads will be rather short, considering the general nature of mobile games.

oh yeah - i think the MMO types would be the ones that can hold the longest discussion.

Thanks for your feedback, goldfries. Although it doesn't sound like any decision is made. sweat.gif Yes, currently, most of discussions/thread made of mobile gaming has been rather, umm...short-lived. But there are tonnes of worthy topic to discuss about. Guides, tips, hints, latest game updates, trading, etc. So rather than seeing what it is atm, I see potential of a small corner section of mobile gaming expanding into a bigger community. I don't mean to brag, but already our Guardian Cross thread moving into the third version within less than two months.
I met up a lot of guys in Apple Bytes and most of them are still actively playing games like Clash Of Clans, yet has no where to hang and chat about it. Not to mention the number of new players joining in whenever an active thread is bumped. Yes, its true that majority of such games are MMO in nature, but that's what attracts most people anyways. The social/virtual interactions, especially in a familliar public forum like LYN.
Sorry if my thoughs are winded, just trying to convince you guys to set up a 'proper' channel for game-addicts like me and the others to call home. And believe me, there's tonnes of us hanging around. laugh.gif
Anyway, thanks for listening to my idea. Hope the other admin/mod can share their personal views on this as well. thumbup.gif

A mobile gaming thread with OS tags(Android, iOS, Cross-Platform, Multi-Platform) would be better. As mobile gaming aren't as restrictive in terms of hardware compared to say, Consoles and PCs.

Having a dedicated area would make it easier to browse and find the games that are popular. I would like to see an area where sharing of iOS gaming can be done with other LyN members. So many good games to be shared, and discussion threads would bloom.

An area for each platform would make it easier for discussion of common issues and definitely trading would be easier as well.

As it is now, we have to squeeze in with other platforms and search through the forum for the older threads. Imagine the disappointment of opening a thread, get excited by the discussion, then only realize that you cant play it because you have different hardware/platform.

I felt having a corner that specially caters to mobile gaming its essential to ever1. Especially to those new comers wanting to play the game. For example. Currently the Guardian Cross (GC) is placed under apply byte. For people who aren't techy like me, they won't venture into apple byte. As this section gives me the impression that it mainly discuss about apple product n stuff. So finding a gaming thread there it's a surprise for me. It's just so coincidence that I need to solve a issue with my phone that I went there n found this thread. And I'm glad I did. Cause without it, I would have been stuck in the game n unable to progress to where I am currently. I owe my achievement in the game to other seniors n hardcorer that helped me out n sharing intel.

So if we have a dedicated section for mobile gaming. Obviously every1 who visit lyn n has a smart phone n avid gamers would have go to the section to meet more friend, sharing n trading. Etc. imagine the difference it would made to every1.

Sorry if what I said is hard to understand. As I'm merely typing out what I had in mind.
Sorry for the laymen terms n broken English.

me too would like "raise hand" to have a dedicated area for the ever growing casual or hardcore IOS/Android gamers ..

like what negisf said is true , if new members or gamers wanted to look for a thread for the game they loved , how would they know it's actually place under apple byte ~ they will directly search under the games section / gamers hideout ~

but these places are stuff with PC games and console games etc ..

so a dedicate place for us or new members of IOS / android gamers to call "home" where we can share our info's , discussion , talks , chat will benefits us greatly smile.gif

Currently iOS games thread is getting mixed up with the technical Q&A threads in iPhone subforum.

I believe many people would think that iPhone subforum will be filled with the technical or hardware (including accessories) discussion of the phone instead of iPhone games.

Mobile Phone apps is a growing trend in this era. Even marketing people are recognizing it as a significant demographic, hence the dawn of a new era of mobile app advertising. If those people can recognize that this particular market is growing & has a potential to grow further, I believe we here in LYN can share that sentiment too.

If you think the iOS gaming community is too small, why not make it iOS Apps instead? Then any discussion on iOS Apps can go there including;

1) Recommended iTunes AppStore Applications (http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1727465)
2) Whatsapp Messenger Users & Fan Club (http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1244739)
3) Recommended iTunes AppStore Games (http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2309745)

Then more fan clubs can be formed. I saw some smaller fan clubs got bumped far behind lol.

the iOS gaming community is gaining nowadays as smartphone users is increasing as well.. even mobile gaming can me on par with some portable gaming device such as PSP, PS Vita etc.

Hence, my thought: it is proper to set up a gamer's hideout section... gaming from a console and a mobile is really a different experience !

This is my input, fire me if needed.
Mobile Gaming subforum , located under root forum with dedicated subsection.
  • Creating "Mobile Gaming" subforum of "root" forum may look fresh and suited some games that have cross-platform capability.
  • Give some thought on how many nested section needed to be create (Android/iOS/Symbian/Windows Phone/BadaOS/S40/Stock 3310 games/S40 games/etc2), and the possibilities of "Ghost Town" when one platform's lacking (for example: Xbox/Playstation/Nintendo).
  • While console gaming at it, I don't think mobile gaming will be any better to cure the "Ghost Town" problem.

Suggestion:

"Mobile Gaming" subforum under root with thread tagging.
  • Each game title thread will be marked with [IOS], or [IOS/Android], etc2.
  • Shortcut to "Mobile Gaming" subforum will be placed at Apple Byte/Android/Blackbeery/Symbian/Other OS/Windows Phone/etc
  • Similar approach to Android's subforum smile.gif

Even Better :

"Mobile Gaming" sub-section under Console Couch
  • Smartphone somehow like portable console too, talking about mobile gaming.
  • Each game title thread will be marked with [IOS], or [IOS/Android/Windows Phone], etc2.
  • Shortcut to "Mobile Gaming" subforum will be placed at Apple Byte/Android/Blackbeery/Symbian/Other OS/Windows Phone/etc
  • Won't waste additional space at forum's root.
  • Similar approach to Android's subforum smile.gif

how about under
"Mobile Phones and PDAs"
> Apps
> Games

in each of Apps/Games subcategory each thread can have their own tag e.g Android or iOS

reason is, sooner or later android user will ask for own section as well and after that will ask for Apps section too.

just my cent wink.gif
