ASUS Malaysia officially launched the cheapest ATOM Z2760 tablet without docking support. Hence the lower entry price point of RM1,799 with 64GB eMMC Flash Storage....

The specs are similar to other ATOM tablet - just has no support for docking and WACOM digitiser.

ASUS VivoTab™ Smart Wi-Fi (ME400C) for RM1,799

10.1-inch (1366 x 768) display
Intel® Atom™ Z2760 dual-core processor
2GB RAM
64GB onboard storage
802.11 b/g/n
265.5 x 171 x 9.7mm
580g
9.5 hours of battery life

ASUS VivoTab™ Smart Wi-Fi + LTE (ME400CL) for RM2,099 coming in Feb

10.1-inch (1366 x 768) display
Intel® Atom™ Z2760 dual-core processor

ASUS Transboard & Transleeve will be sold separately.

Official Link Website - Very Cool

With SRP of RM1,799, we should expect local pricing around RM1,6xx which make ASUS VivaTab Smart the cheapest Windows 8 Tablet with 64GB storage...even cheaper than new new iPad 64GB WiFi vmad.gif

yup, 3 reason of using z2760 instead of i3
-longer battery life
-reduce heat
-reduce cost

z2760 consume 1.7w while ULV i3 need 17w

put in a i3 level proc into a 10.1' tablet, the heat really fatal.

Not the cheapest at 1799, the Acer W510 without keyboard is cheaper at 1699.

But... the cheaper Acer is only 32GB, and this is 64GB for 100 more so... guess its more worth it.

No, since active digitizer needs to be embedded into the screen for better performance. If you want the digitizer, go for the vivotab... err.. normal. tongue.gif

What you guys think? Is it better to get this with Transleeve / or keyboard or Acer W700 (MYR 2199.00 with keyboard) which running on i3 (faster processor although higher wattage consumptions but it is proven that having good batter) life

**Change the title to VivoTab instead of Vivatab

It depends on what you need. Atom like most people know is only adequate for simple web browsing, playing videos and office work. The i3 W700 is a lot heavier and slightly bigger. While Atom Z2760 equipped tablets are 10.1 inch and 580 grams weight (both W510 and VivoTab), the W700 is reaching 1kg so its not comfortable to use single handed anyway. It's best for you to test it first if possible.

I'm thinking of buying this or W510 soon. The small eMMC doesn't bother me because this have micro SD slot so it's easy to expand storage unlike W700 with only internal SSD and no external storage, unless you are keen of opening up your tablet or using USB drives.

The clovertrail atom is still weak compared to a Core level processor. It all depends on what you want to use it for. It works very well for all your on the go web browsing note taking needs just like any other tablet, but also because it's a real PC there's a lot more you can do with it compared to an ARM tablet.

The clovertrail is also much improved from the last low power Atom that Intel farted out. Clovertrail is capable of decoding 1080P Hi10P videos on CPU. Which to me was quite surprising!

After a bit of digging, I found out the graphics driver on this new Clover Trail CPU is horrid. Nearly no support from both Intel and Microsoft ruins it for me. Reading several posts from Intel forum such as this and this. Even in Windows 7 the driver is bad, and worse in Windows 8. For those who wanted to buy this better wait for AMD Temash platform to comes out

The GPU you're talking about is the GMA3600

Clovertrail one is specified as GMA3650 and was probably tweaked with Windows 8 in mind.

That said there are some weird performance glitches.
- desktop apps and games utilizing certain graphic hardware features perform VERY POORLY!
- metro games which should be using the same kind of graphic acceleration seem to work just fine..

It's quite puzzling, will be documenting this in video form this weekend. Stay tuned if you're interested...

Any particular games you might want me to test.

I can tell you that Guild Wars 2 and FTL are both not working properly tongue.gif

Oh you have one how convenient biggrin.gif I don't plan to play new games on it but can you try old RTS games such as Command and Conquer Red Alert 2? When I see touchscreen Windows 8, all I ever see is RTS game is going to be great playing on it tongue.gif I don't think newer RTS like Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars or Company of Heroes going to even run on this tablet.

Red Alert 2... Errr.. Okie I'm gonna have to see if I can dig that one out.

problem is, that game expects you to have a keyboard. And I haven't really seen how well right clicking works in DirectX full screen games yet.

I'll see what I can do.

Red Alert 2 is a 2D old game, even a single core processor + IGP also can run smoothly.

Yes.. it *should*

Apart from that we are basically checking to see if it'll play properly on a touch screen.

Depends on individual. If its ARM I better take Android tablets for it vast apps as Windows RT is very limited. The reason why I wanted this kind of tablet is because of the x86 compatibility so I could use all the software I used on desktop on the tablet.

For the Vivotab that come pre-installed with WinRT, there include a special Office2013 Home & Student RT (include Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneNote). The Office2013 Home & Student RT is fully functional.
For Vivotabe that come pre-installed with Win8, you don't get MS Office for free smile.gif

Which one are we talking about? They didn't provide OTG cable or there's no port at all on the tablet?

If they didn't provide cable then I would be surprised, since even Acer gives a nice OTG as well as HDMI to VGA adapater in their tablets.

Uploaded a video comparison of an Acer W510 playing 720P and 1080P videos, since the Asus uses the same Clovertrail guts it should be similar in performance to it and should be interesting to anyone wanting to play video with the Asus

already has the keyboard, so prefer to use like netbook.

and the touchscreen is broken, keeps pinching out of nowhere.
