Going to meet a seller for Galaxy S3. What issue should I check? How to identify SDS problem?
*
according to xda, download the emmc apps can check board revision number, old one is VTU000M 0fx1 while the new one is VTU000M 0fx7.

key in this number also, *#12580*369#, check board firmware model. 1.1 is old, new is 1.5. new board release around dec last year, if phone age is more than 2 months old then let dont your hope so high.

other than this duno what is the most accurate method to check and probability is there, wont know until phone is dead lol.

I checked the phones in Samsung Centre in Lowyat and a few other retailers around that area just last week, all had version 1.1 so I guess it may be a while before new stock filters through.
*
yeap, or enough AP sets died. those demos are old phones isnt it? wouldnt know whats the revision status of their current stock

i'd wait for s4 or sometime later till phone with new boards flood the market

As I said above I think you are right but no retailer could tell me what version they are currently stocking. I actually said that I would buy a phone from a couple if they could guarantee it had the new motherboard but non were willing to risk opening a sealed box to check in case it didn't.

BTW they denied all knowledge of SDS in the Samsung Centre.
*
of course la, no sales person will do that.

hi sir, may i help you? we have samsung galaxy s3 and note 2 which are our best selling smart phones. but currently samsung has announced that there is a problem with those handsets which may result in the phone totally unbootable unless you send it to service center to get a board replaced. what do you think sir? which colour appeals best to you?

hahaha

Will it be safe if flash other custom ROM? Say SuperNexus. Since the problem is come from certain kernals, custom famous ROM should be implement "safe" kernal in it.
*
duno, im not too sure about it though as there are forumers here saying its not guaranteed. my first batch s3 which i got on the launch day itself has died last week. just managed to get back the phone with a new board today.

im now looking for custom roms to flash, cracking head to see which is more favoured here. tried wanam 4.1. actually what does custom kernel do? like siyah, i find the features and some overclocking and other features.

can the bros sis here enlighten me? (and her)

It just went dead ? Or after u update ?
*
stock - wanam - stock rooted 4.1.1 (waiting to get latest local update)

that was early this month, woke up one fine morning to see notification light blinking but button is not responsive. screen doesnt light up. remove battery test in sis phone still has charge, insert sis's battery also cannot boot.

verdict: phone's dead (or shoud have stayed using wanam?)

I assume it auto update while you slept then it get the buggy kernal and this happen.

btw, the latest for stock S3 rom is 4.2.1? Malaysia already have? or only other foreign country got? will those AP set get it as well?
*
nope, my phone has been rooted and has root apps. device is modified and there wont be auto update.
msia only 4.1.2, depends on the CSC of the Ap sets. that defines the region of the phone, as what previously replied before by other forumer

that's weird. You flash stock 4.1.1 and re-root it ?
*
yes, i needed root functions. turns out auto update is disabled for modified firmware, wasnt like that in the first few months since launch

Has anyone experienced the S3 sudden death syndrome before? I think mine just did.... phone wouldn't unsleep on saturday... took out the battery, put it back in, no difference. sent to the service centre, they said my motherboard most probably dead due to overnight charging, which by the way, is one of the ways that sudden death happens...

Sudden Death Syndrome
*
overcharging can fry the board? ahahaha, nonsense. isnt it widely known that it affects the battery lifetime?
what is unsleep btw? turn on the screen/unlock?

*

*
