Nintendo's home console timeline (in the last 16 years or so):-

Wii U - latest/current generation (it is not a model of Wii)
Wii - previous generation
Gamecube - prior to Wii generation
Nintendo 64 - prior to Gamecube generation



as far as latest iteration of Wii, it seems like they have removed Gamecube backward compatibility.

depending on the seller you buy from it may be an older iteration (older stock) so it may still have the GC support.
