QUOTE(fruitie @ Jan 18 2013, 02:12 AM) Recently no more interesting custom ROMs eh? Looks like my choice with Romow is the correct one. I'm looking forward to 4.2 now. I'm thinking of changing my kernel, RedPill Rev 1.01 is OK but thinking if there is any better one. rumored to be released early Q2....4.2 official....hopefully a leak comes out around March

QUOTE(fruitie @ Jan 18 2013, 02:20 AM) Q2, that's so long to go... Even March is still a long way to go. what to do, cant really complaint since they will still be the first to update a 2012 phone to 4.2 =/ Just hope they give some stuff of their own, since 4.2 is hardly different than 4.1 for non-nexus phones. Me, i'm still hoping they fix the framerate issues these phone has. Sigh, having sensitive eyes are annoying lol

QUOTE(joytest @ Jan 18 2013, 02:22 AM) hahaha the TS is not making factual comments and seems highly opinionated for the wrong things. and I'm wondering since when does updating kernel version gives more performance.....the only thing it does it make future android versions easier to port for those devices. Google is planning to slowly merge both mainline Linux kernel and android kernel in time, which is all only for compatibility and not performance lol. Unless there are some OTHER stuffs which get introduced in Linux which so happens would make Android run better somehow, but requires a higher kernel version to be supported then yeah, a new kernel might bring better performance but its not because of the kernel version itself....

QUOTE(fruitie @ Jan 18 2013, 02:29 AM) I really want to see the candy 4.2 gives. Tried Nexus 4 the other day, came with 4.2.1, really well-speced phone. Which means it will overwrite my current Cheng Lu CWM? yeah, hopefully samsung surpise us wih some nice useful options rather than apps I would choose semi touch as Chenglu CWM is semi touch iinm. Full touch should be the mad one lol where u might never know what the heck you end up clicking Go for semi touch

QUOTE(joytest @ Jan 18 2013, 02:34 AM) Actually the kernel can influence performance. In my limited knowledge from having casually used linux over the last 15 years, the compiler flags can optimise the binary for your target architecture, and can provide up to a 10% performance boost. You can compile the kernel from source for YOUR OWN PC and it will give you at least 5% boost. Sometime last year the Linaro group provided some ARM optimisations that nearly doubled linux performance on ARM, and i think they provided this back to the community. That is why you see some kernel chefs state they have ARMEABI optimisations with linaro flags. isn't the linaro thing not always a performance improvement? Seeing thru lots of CM development on XDA for various different phones, I se some devs saying the compiled using the linaro 4.7 toolchain, and it gave tangible improvements and some other said nothing much in temrs of improvements and for s2 it might have actually made things worse that they went back to 4.6.3( I don't know how is it now however) compiler flags turned on;meaning u r like adding in more stuffs right? and certain flags are only available in certain kernel versions right? unless it is backported? which is why I was saying that the kernel itself doesn't give the improvements but what is compiled together with it, as in some new features that is only available with the newer versions, but I wouldn't know lol, am not a dev and have only used backtrack 5 (closest thing to linux I've used)

QUOTE(Noobi3 @ Jan 18 2013, 02:44 AM) u forgot the part he commented on my post nexus 7 is still stuck at 1 version regardless of OS , stuck at version 3.0 and i thought he will know the actual version since he is so particular about the kernel version lol. I dont think its gonna ever move above 3.1.10 unless a new Android version explicitly requires it(just like how ICS really needs 3.0, but I still see some phones which are upgraded to ICS from GB using 2.6, lazy devs )

QUOTE(fruitie @ Jan 22 2013, 09:42 AM) Just to point out that mobile phones business is not Huawei's main business. So, it's perfectly normal if you can't see much publicity from them. They are not a poor company, I would say rich in profit from its core business - telecommunications equipment and solution provider. Exactly, they are taikor in mobile comm, just because their phone business is not huge, don't underestimate them guys. btw, their 2012 profit was 2.5 billion USD http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/21/huawei-2012-financials/

QUOTE(Noobi3 @ Jan 22 2013, 12:30 PM) both working fine . Using Du@lNote [attachmentid=3274806] eh, what's that white bar up there? the thing is since 4.1.2, when you go from portrait to landscape, then portrait again on the YouTube app, you will have a black bar up there. So Du@lNote chef added a white bar so it doesn't look ugly?

QUOTE(fruitie @ Jan 23 2013, 09:44 AM) Ya, wicked has no theme-ing. Thought of trying to know how good the battery life is. I might go for dualnote as well. Too used with nice interface. Moreover, wicked's fonts are way too small... Edited: typoyou can flash the reset font zip for wicked ROM to get back the stock size. Wicked ROM will have the best batt life imo, since its basically stock, but with all the crap removed, but all the important apps and features are still there

QUOTE(fruitie @ Jan 23 2013, 02:40 PM) Somehow my short stay with it doesn't really show that it has good battery life for my case. I think my previous experience with Romow was a more pleasant one compared to Wicked. Now checking on Du@lNote, hopefully it is not bad. weird, since I get 7.5 hours SOT with heavy wifi and light gaming with htat ROM combined with NEAK btw, the reason myfiles is not on ur tibu is bcoz it is a system app and im pretty sure u didnt backup system apps with titanium b4 seriously, purchase solid explorer, the BEST file explorer EVER!! cant believe how awesome it is till today lol
