The latest animated feature from director Makoto Shinkai, named "Kotonoha no Niwa" (the garden of words), will go on general release in the first half of 2013. The statement described the forthcoming feature as a romance set in a modern society. It discussed Shinkai's feelings for "Yamato kotoba," or authentically Japanese words.
The description's tagline is: "A story of 'lonely sadness' set in a time when 'love' was yet to be introduced." This refers to the notion that romantic love is a foreign idea introduced in Japan only in modern times. Traditionally, the word "love" was written as "lonely sadness" or yearning in ancient Japan.
how would you rate the story based on Shinkai's previous work?
I am well aware it's going to be good in comparison of this season's other works, but does it have more to offer compared to Byosoku/The place promised in our early days?

Well, Byousoku did has a good story but I seriously did not like the depressing ending, lol. So if I wanted to rate the whole thing (Byousoku vs Kotonoha) based on art, animation, story and characters, I easily give Kotonoha no Niwa a glorious win. Haven't watch 雲のむこう、約束の場所 and ほしのこえ yet, but will do at later time.
seriously, i just finish watching, its kinda boring...and insert songs also are lame....the only thing good is the graphic quality and good job telling school kids that "ur a kid, u got no money and u wont get the girl you want until u earn ur own dough.."

and the ending sucks too
The novelty is just not for you
I think it is good.
... and it is not actually about "getting the girl you want"

About the famous feet scene, Shinkai comments that they had to make that scene lewd for it to work. He explains that allowing other people to touch one's bare feet is a very intimate ("priceless") act, and that for a 15 year old kid this is the first time touching someone else's feet (except family members). Risa mentions how beautiful the feet are, and how carefully Takao handles them, as though he is touching a mystery.
Shinkai mentions again how he thinks Yukino is cruel, letting Takao touch her feet even though she has yet to decide whether she likes him or not. Nevertheless, Shinkai says he wanted to portray the feelings between them as beautiful, and that the scene needed to have some seductiveness but make it a beautiful and precious thing, and that he thinks Kashiwa's piano piece really helped that.
hmm must watch list!!! is it 40 mins only? kinda short isnt it? im working adult also ehhhhh but the 5cm movie was beautiful still love the ending song from it
"Itsudemo sagashite iru yo dokka ni kimi no sugata o... "
