Hi all Ford Focus owners,

I plan to get the Ford Focus, but have been contemplating on the car's auto transmission issue such as juddering, shaking, etc. Anyone experienced it before care to share their experience here? And did the issue ever got resolved?

I would really appreciate if anyone is willing to share their experience, so it would help me in my dilemma.

Thank you!

hi spiderman, totally agree with you. but what i am afraid of is getting the car with constant GB problem, and they cant fix it. have read a few of those problems online, where the owner have to constantly go back to SC to get it look at. It would be great if someone actually know or have the issue fixed?

I notice that everyone is comparing a DCT GB to a conventional GB or CVT GB when it comes to the characteristic of a transmission.
I admit that sometimes in a DCT situation, 1st to 2nd can be hard to predict. I am driving my car almost 14k km now, and i have adapted myself to how the car responds to my throttle input.
What i can say is, the DCT GB character is not the deal breaker. I rather enjoy the drive with the DCT GB when i am light footed. The best GB is still a CVT, but IIRC, there is more 'waste' in energy in a CVT then a DCT.

So end of the day is, what do you want and what can you live without? For me, the built quality and drive characteristic of the car is more important then the minor issue (to me) of 1st gear to 2nd gear juddering ...

Strong jerks and juddering at low speeds only occur during the first 1,000km, in my case. The gear shifts are much smoother at 2,000km. It does not have the smoothness of a CVT but it's close - only at 2,000km mileage and above.

As Lowkl has mentioned, it's not exactly a gearbox problem but a characteristic, and in my experience the characteristic is only evident at low mileage below 1,000km. At 2,000km/h mileage and above, there is very minimal juddering, and I don't see any problem or even an issue with the gearbox. Perhaps some owners who have to constantly go back to the service centre to get the "problem" fixed, those problems are something else?

Personally I don't have any issues with the gearbox of the Focus as it shifts quite smoothly now with very minimal judders at low speeds. The mileage of my vehicle is about 1900km now. I am actually more critical on the suspension of the vehicle, the noises that it produces when going over uneven or bad roads which I feel is quite loud. I was told this is a characteristic that is inherent in the Focus. I can live with it but sometimes wished the suspension is little quieter.

Thanks SportyHandling for sharing your experience. No doubt all of you who "pen" down your thoughts & experience here do help in making better decision

Tq guys!

hi guys, heard from a friend that owns a titanium plus, that his engine vibrates intermittently at idle. It vibrates, then stop awhile, then vibrate again. Brought back to SA, they said its like that (engine's characteristics). Anyone else experience this?

As a side-note, I do notice the engine vibration with the Focus during idling(vehicle at N) is getting a bit obvious. I can feel the intermittent engine vibration in the cabin when waiting at the traffic lights. During the next service I will highlight this and see if the vibration can be eliminated, completely.

Anybody managed to get this engine vibration eliminated at the service centre?

is the vibration intermittent in idle? (stop then start again, repeat)

Hi guys, after I lock my fofo, there's a red blinking "i" in the middle of the dashboard. I've checked the menu, messages, and it says system is normal. What could be the cause of the blinking red i?

Just to add on, before the system went to normal, I was getting this message "ford keyfree switch ignition off press POWER”. Which after pressing the POWER button, the system went back to normal (as stated in the menu, message), but after locking my car again, the red blinking i still appear...

Grinding sound is getting into my nerve sad.gif I have to carefully step on accelerator pad as to avoid the grinding n vibration.
*
even if i go slow on the accelerator, the grinding still happens at times. apparently the grinding sound is normal for this DCT. as long as its bearable, its ok. if it gets louder, then its a problem

Guys, where do you place your GPS or handphone while driving? Any recommendations where to get some mounts for Focus?

Also I wonder if anyone managed to get something like this for the boot:

I think your option 2 is the best. Windscreen mount will leave a mark! hate those
2. Mount to air-cond, but focus air-cond vent is verticle.

Saw this mat before. I guess this is the best quality we can find in m'sia =)
2. Trunk carpet

I am at my wit's end when it comes to phone mounts! I've already spent well over RM200 on but have yet to get anything that works. Anything that sticks to the windscreen is out as I don't want to damage the tint. Our aircon vent grill is vertical so all those that normally mount there don't work. Anything that sits directly on the dashboard is too high and interferes with the view, and furthermore almost nothing sticks to the curved, textured surface without effectively supergluing a hard plastic disc to act as a base. I even have a friction mount that does address this, but the height issue is still there.

Sigh!

Now considering this Mountek mount.

What think you?

you can try this (nicest i've found)
http://store.apple.com/us/product/HC299ZM/...nd=kenu+airfram

BUT i'm not sure if it can fit gps or android...

I bring all these stuff, u can PM me if interested.

About the rain guard, I haven't install it, will let u know once I installed.

The phone mount, I was also considering the 1 u saw, but then I am more interest with the 1 in my reply, it can be tilted at least. The dashboard near the middle speaker got quite some flat surface for it. Only concern is whether it will block the view.

Guys, I'm using Ron95 and currently my total mileage is 500++ km, and the reading is 9.3km/100km.

I wonder if Ron97 will give better mileage? I saw some of the focus owner clocking 6.x/100km and some 7.x/100km

If you can accept the grinding sound, then u should be fine. Make sure you go test drive the car and make sure you hear the sound for yourself. Then you make the choice if all of the pros of this car, can out weight the grinding smile.gif

Looks like this deal is very hot, extended again and again.
Your mileage very good, I assume there's seldom jam?

Anyone else here, experience the car vibration when you start it in the morning, and also when you are stuck in the traffic jam, especially up hill, e.g. on a fly over bridge?

I find the vibration is getting obvious...

I'm experiencing low gear jerk (car like want to leap forward lol) & grinding sound. No vibration as of now
