Saw some folks here debate on powershift jerky issue. Just want to some of my experience on dual clutch transmission. Jerky issue especially during 1sr to 2rd gear transition at low rpm for dry dual clutch seems to be common. I drove a mk6 golf for 2yrs plus now. The jerking issue is normal and wide spread for most vw dry dsg box. Even the 1.8 tsi vw passat. It requires the driver to get used to and handle the throttle at 1st to 2rd gear change.

QUOTE(blinky @ Apr 4 2013, 01:08 AM) Which branch is this? Booked mine early march. I was promised early this month delivery. Called them today. They said probably delay. No date was given. Was told if those booked now will have to wait 4 to 5 months. Are the focus really in great demand? Was told many units were delivered in peanang since feb. But rarely spotted one in my day to day drive on the road.If I were you I'd cancel the booking and just get it from another dealership. Ford in Malaysia is just pathetic beyond belief. I'm already losing my patience with them. |

QUOTE(Mamapapamsia @ May 14 2013, 10:22 AM) The focus is a well equipped car. But its engine and gearbox cannot be compared to vw. Very big difference. Besides, yes i admit the dsg has its problems. They will replace the clutch pack for u . No problems after the repair. I will be getting my new focus sport+ in a few days time. Very looking forward to that and I am keeping my 2 and half year old vw golf mk6. My opinion is that both are fun car to drive in its own way and it all boiled down to individual preferences. I was unlucky that my mk6 golf just got the engine replaced due to the piston head crack and subsequently the 7 speed dsg gear box mechatronic replacement. The car only done with 40k km. Good thing is that it was still under warranty. Bad thing is the warrenty claim processes took months and the VGM customer service literally bad. Not too sure about ford. Guess I will find out more... |

QUOTE(meteoraniac @ May 19 2013, 12:45 PM) Hi guys, been following this thread ever since reading the many raving reviews of the Focus Both Vw Golf and Focus has the dry double clutch gear box. Technically speaking, the operating and mechanical concepts shud be similar. Its the software algorithm that makes some differnces. My mk6 golf dgs shifting characteristics remain unchanged even I had loaded with latest software. I was told that the mk7 golf does not have the mk6 golf gear shift jittering issue anymore. I just got my focus. So far have not experience obvious jitter yet. Once the engine n clutch plate breakin I will try to observe to see ithas the similar charcharacteristics as vw golf.I'm currently tossed between deciding VW MK7 or the Focus Titanium Plus. But the recent recalls and testimony of my friends with Mk6 on the ever famous DSG problems has partially led me to side my decision on Focus. Would like your opinion on whether focus would have the same problem since its transmission its quite similar to the DSG as well, has any owners face the same issue? Currently driving Audi B8 and sparingly use my Waja for sentimental reasons, which is a also workhorse that failed me only twice in 9 years. |

I am 4th day into driving the focus sport +. I realized that the dry clutch powershift gear box tends to hunt for gears to decide downshift or upshift during slow down and acceleration at low speed. And it creates the rattling sensation and noise. Any owner experience that? It seems like a dry clutch problem or characteristics. Probably need better gear shift algorithm.

QUOTE(kelvinftg @ May 30 2013, 07:26 PM) I received my Candy Red Sport+ 2 days ago. Experiencing the low gear juddering like most explained here. One more thing is on hard acceleration, gear change from 3 -> 4 is pretty rough. Kinda kicks me forward during the gear change. 300 KM traveled so far. Mine clocked 800km now. Still experience the shuddering on gear shift especially after going through the bumper to bumper traffic route and when the clutch works too hard. The gear box is very smooth and snappy in the morning drive when traffics are lesser. Hope the shuddering will go away soon. But I suspect its the adaptive shifting software n algorithm that causes the problem. Anyone know any good explanation on this? All that aside, handling and cornering is great, NVH is surprisingly good, still trying to figure out all the buttons and I'm still deciding on which tinting to use. On daily driving, I realised that there are not enough 'open' compartments to store things like phone and wallet. What I mean by 'open' is, compartments where you can place your stuff, and not forget to take when you leave your car. Pictures to come later! |

QUOTE(jellybean-fish @ Jun 2 2013, 07:22 AM) Hi all ford focus owner What's your car milage? the gear box shifting are quite erratic sometimes. It depends on its adaptive on your drive style. I am clocking 800 plus km now. Shifting more predictable. Shuddering also get lesser. Hope it will get better as the engine and clutch break in.Do you have any problem with the gearbox, yesterday when i start my car, it RPM stuck at 2.X and it won't change gear. Until i park my car at roadside then restart it ,then everything back to normal. Checked the trip computer and all the system are normal, no idea what causes the problem. Beside the rattling issue from 0-40KM/H, i also feel that im having problem maintaining speed going uphill. |

QUOTE(haushinka @ Jun 11 2013, 05:27 PM) Guys, my car already clocked 6k++, im planning to polish my car...stumble upon promotion in groupon, the package is quite interesting...rm 50 for 3 steps....how reliable it is the package? Anybody from here purchased the package from groupon before? Do you still get that low speed erratic gear shifting at this mileage? |

QUOTE(haushinka @ Jun 12 2013, 12:15 PM) So far so good...no jerking after i passed the 1k mileage ^^V My clocked 1.6k km now. Gear hunting at low speed and shuddering still happen especially after a long traffic jam drive and route. Highway is oerfectly ok and shift lot smoother. Did you upgrade the latest gearshift software? The one that released on may 2013?I think it can be consider as minor scratch only...maybe i will try with waxxing first since its cheaper... I havent try any sedan at the moment...i own the hb and for me i still can tolerate with the suspension plus the handling is superb IMO. |

QUOTE(no-tech-know-logy @ Jun 18 2013, 10:20 PM) My titanium is 1 month old and just clock pass 1K. Went to Ipoh and back to KL last weekend. Once I'm back, suddenly my car start to jerk very badly. I have the normal off n on low speed jerk before this but nothing as bad as this. When I reverse into my house up a small hump, car jerk til its like engine going to mati. Also notice some sound from my left side after the trip, not sure what sound it is. I was told after 2 to 3k km, when the clutch bedded in, the sheddering and sounds will reduced significant ly. If not, you shud approach sc to update the software to the latest version which I believe was released this May. Yes. Its a dry clutch just like manual gear box but control by computer and I believe the Power Shift gear box software adaptive algorithm was not as perfect. Mine almost 2k plus km. Sheddering getting lesser. Hopefully it will go away just like everyone else says.So sent to SC today. Foreman told me that all this problems are normal and he already got many complains from focus owners. He say that jerking is due to dual clutch and that transmission is actually only semi-auto coz its originally manual trans but modified to auto (Don't understand this coz I'm car dumb) He also say he test drive my car and reverse up a very steep slope. Full throttle but car moves very slow. He say its normal for focus. Is the foreman correct? Coz a 100K plus car that can't reverse up a slope is damn embarassing. On top of all the jerking and sound.. |

QUOTE(chuakz @ Jul 9 2013, 04:11 PM) well...all cars have problems and it really depends on your luck to get a problem free car. also, only people who have problems are complaining while the buyers who got the reliable cars would most likely not comment anywhere on the page. so in turn, it appears to the public that the ford focus is a problematic car. hope i explained well enough. The only problem I have for my focus sport + is the gear shift shuddering at low speed. My car clocks 3k km now. Shuddering is much reduced. Perhaps the gear box hv learn my shifting style or I have learn to control the throttle better. Anyway, I plan do the software upgrade in my next service to see if it help. Any owner here who has loaded the latest gearbox software? Can you share some experience? I agreed. All brand n model of the car got defect problem. My vw golf has it big time. Engine replaced in first 2 yrs then gearbox fixed. The well know 7 sp dsg dry clutch gear box still jerk intermittent ly at 1 to 2nd gear shift. The jerking is lots more obvious than focus 6 sp dry clutch box. |
