Wow, consider yourself lucky bro, I'm on 10.5km/l for my first tank, 30% highway, 70% city  cry.gif
*
My first tank I got 13.6l/100km shocking.gif , as I was stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic for nearly 80% of the tank (UMNO general assembly going on at that time vmad.gif vmad.gif ). Now after 10000km, I average 10.58l/100km (overall from Day1) ranging from 9.2 to 11.2, with approx 70% city rush-hour traffic.

I find that slow acceleration does NOT help in improving FC; however accelerating then hard braking does make the FC worse. As such, now I just tekan the gas to the max comfort (and enjoyment!) level whenever I can estimate that I don't have to slam the brake.

Overall, I must say the FC is much worse than as advertised, though not unreasonable for a 2L car.

read earlier post that some of you doesn't have such problem. maybe you guys try not to lock the car for maybe 4-5hours and try start the engine afterwards. observe whether the start up is as smooth as it use to be.
*
choowh,

Very sad & concerned to hear about your problem.... in fact, of all the complaints about our ride (albeit not many), this is the one that bothers me the most.

I leave my car unlocked many/most times throughout the night...8-12 hours each day; so far no problems.

Do you have any peripherals attached, eg. cigarette lighter adaptors, dashcams, etc.? The problem with our car is that the cigarette lighter port remains powered up even though the engine is off (in fact I think it's even on when the car is locked!).

Just wondering if there is any autolock function? For example, you forgot to lock your car and went away, and after like say 5 mins, the car automatically lock itself??
*
Yikes! That would be kinda scary.... what if there are people waiting in the car, and the driver gets out? I think the car locks itself only in the case where:

- the car is already locked, then
- unlocked but
- without any door being opened after x minutes, will lock itself again.

This is to prevent your accidental unlocking eg. if the key hob presses against another key/coins in your pocket while you are walking away from your car.

Does anyone have any experience or got any feedback regarding this AutoFoam treatment? According to the writeups, by injecting this rigid foam into the hollow spaces in the car's chassis, it can improve soundproofing as well as chassis rigidity, thereby improve handling.

What think you?

Thanks....btw, is it worth to take the plus version?? That extra $$ would matters to me..
*
Much like SportyHandling and thanish, I also got the non-Plus. Now after driving some 10k, I must say the Plus option would have been very nice. Specifically, the additional 2 air-bags, the Active City Stop and some other minor usability features make the difference worth it. Actually the extra cost is really the cost of funds for the extra money you will pay for the Plus, as you should be able to get back most of this cost when you sell the car.

For me, the two reasons that deterred me from going for the Plus were the extra cost would have pushed me past my budget, AND the sunroof which I personally have a pet peeve against. Much lower down on the negative list is that all these additional features may in the future become additional things that can go wrong and incur more cost.

...my dua sen ....

RM87.7k for a less than 1 year old model. Since the seller is a 2nd hand car dealer, the original owner must have traded in the car less than the selling price, at least RM5k cheaper. That's more than RM30k depreciation after about 1 year.
*
Since this is a non-Plus model, the sticker price is RM112.7K (can't include insurance, road tax, etc.). Most likely he/she enjoyed a certain degree of discount... let say RM3K? That would make it RM109.7K nett. I believe you are right that the 2nd hand dealer would need to make RM5K to make it worth their while... that would make the selling price to the dealer around RM82.7K. So RM82.7K/RM109.7K is around 24% 1st year depreciation.

I just did a comparison with a 2012 Honda Civic 2.0 (a purported leader in terms of resale value here)... on Carlist.my the average is going around RM111K. Using identical logic as above, the actual resale value would be RM106K and using the list price of RM127.6 less maybe RM3K in discounts, it would be RM106K/124.6K which is around 15%.

We have to see how it goes the 2nd year onwards, but usually the year-to-year depreciation between brands is a bit less than the initial year's plunge. Also, we have to take into account the FoFo's increasing popularity narrowing the gap somewhat.

Oooo!! We also have to factor in the 3 year free maintenance into the picture.

So we lose out.. what?.... RM20K after 5 years compared to a (yawn) Honda/Toyota? That is RM4K a year... a bit over RM300 per month extra? RM300 for:

- the sheer joy every time we get into the driver seat?
- being cushioned in styling & trim at least a class above?
- the exhilaration of being pressed back from the acceleration at almost ANY initial speed?
- the pin-sharp handling?

Damn good deal, if you ask me!!

It doesnt reconnect, have to restart the vehicle to get it connect back.
Even restart the audio unit will not help.  sweat.gif
Bought the paint from Taobao. Not too cheap now that I calculate but can keep the spray can for future use.
Anyone wanna tag along? Then we can save some postage icon_idea.gif

Hi pin86,

I think the 'very hassle way' mentioned by bro 0304125 is to do a hard reset for the Sync. This involves unplugging then replugging the fuse for Sync which is located on the passenger-side, under the glove compartment. I had to do it to resolve an issue to get Bluetooth Audio to work; a few other owners had various other Sync-related issues fixed this way.

But the air-cond mount are mostly for horizontal vent grill. Our vent grill is vertical, anyone tried before?
Mind share share? I dare not try because I feel that it will not get a good grip.
*
I am at my wit's end when it comes to phone mounts! I've already spent well over RM200 on but have yet to get anything that works. Anything that sticks to the windscreen is out as I don't want to damage the tint. Our aircon vent grill is vertical so all those that normally mount there don't work. Anything that sits directly on the dashboard is too high and interferes with the view, and furthermore almost nothing sticks to the curved, textured surface without effectively supergluing a hard plastic disc to act as a base. I even have a friction mount that does address this, but the height issue is still there.

Sigh!

Now considering this Mountek mount.

What think you?

Yikes! How la if you have to poke it for any reason? Won't the phone also go flying towards you if you tekan the gas (like the car just BEGS you to do... heh heh)

Seems like even more dangerous than using the phone while driving.....

Hi all,

Just dropped by to take a look at the Fofo titanium...it's really beautiful...I haven't test driven the car cos I was rushing...

Currently I m on a vios...I m just concern that the rear seats are a little narrow on leg space...apart from that the interior n exterior are really good...

Will do the test drive maybe next week or so...meanwhile, went thru 119 pages of comments...phewwww....

Would u guys recommend a hatchback or a sedan? Is there a new 2014 model coming out?

Overall, I know it's stupid to ask, but I'll ask again, is this car worth every penny (just wanna convince myself further)? Hehe...hope to hear from you all

Thanks

Hi coconutzz,

The greatest appeal for the Ford Focus is that it is definitely a driver's car.... if you enjoy driving, having a pretty powerful engine with torque sprinkled liberally everywhere, a transmission that is closer to a manual than an auto, extremely good handling characteristics... in the opinion of all FoFo owners, there is NOTHING better in this price range or even an extra 30% of the cost.

You MUST test drive it. In fact, if you are crazy like me, go for a couple of test drives at different dealerships... heh heh....

If you are comparing legroom with a Vios, then I think you should not worry; it should still be more. Of course don't la compare with a D-segment car.

As for whether to choose a hatch or a sedan, that is a simple choice... what do you want and what do you need? If you like the sporty look and the absolute pinnacle of performance, then the hatch la. If you need the boot space, the extra luxury of full leather seats (powered driver's somemore) and can give up some handling performance, then the Titanium la. Thankfully the price is identical for this car.

2014 model ....nothing announced here yet. If anything it will just be a facelift, methinks.

If you bothered to go through the 119 pages of comments, I would think you are making this decision with both eyes open, with very realistic expectations. This is NOT a perfect vehicle; but most of us owners have not regretted making this choice.

I for one still have elevated heartrates each and every time i look at the car and even more when I get in and drive it!

I think the wiper is good and cleans reasonably well. It is surely better than the wipers on my previous and current cars. I particularly like the configuration whereby the right wiper goes clockwise and the left wiper goes anti-clockwise since in this way the set of wipers cover a larger area on the windscreen. On most vehicles, the wipers only go in one direction that is clockwise. Haven't tried silicon wiper with droplet effect though.
*
Hmmm... isn't the wiper silicone? From the colour it looks silicone-ish....

Things I have found that helps with the unsmooth wiper motion/sound:

- wash the blade every time you wash the car
- periodically clay the windscreen
- coat the windscreen with Rain-X or equivalent

One cool thing about the wiper (which I am sure was not intentionally designed!): when it is on, even on intermittent settings, the blades do not go all the way down; however, when you shut them off completely, the blades drop down the last 1 inch to completely vanish beneath the hood.

How is the fuel consumption like for the ford focus now, especially after the run in period?
If can, make reference to daily drive to work ie. a little of highway and slow moving traffic+jam.
*
EddyHyip,

Background: current mileage is around 13k km
Driving pattern: I work in the KLCC area (also known as Nightmare Jam Central From Hell). Home is approx. 15km from the office. Overall I would say 40% crawling city traffic, 30% normal city traffic, and 30% highway.
Average fuel consumption: 9.5 to 10.5 l/100km (measured very carefully since Day1).

FYI I didn't get significant improvement after the first 1000km. This car does NOT sip petrol while sitting idle, sorry to say. Once it is moving, even at slow speeds, the FC is pretty good for a 2 litre car. In highway conditions, it's amazing.

For start/stop/sitting-doing-nothing type driving, either hybrids or my wife's Mazda6 with its iStop feature is really the way to go.

the jerking problem will trouble you in city and jam drive?
*
Honestly I can't remember exactly when the juddering stopped... it started around 2k km, and I think solved itself around 6k km. It never really bothered me, as I always attributed it to having a powerful engine strapped together with a DCT.

I can tell what IS bothering me recently: the gear grinding sound. For me, I get very little/zero grinding in the morning. However, when I get stuck in a bad crawl in the evenings, the sound is so loud my wife makes fun of the car... she says it sounds like the engine is going to fall out. blush.gif I'm definitely raising a fuss in the upcoming 20k km service, and sending it to the main service centre at SDAC PJ.
