according to this article in the New York Times, the transmission suffers from too early upshifts in order to keep fuel efficiency high, keeping engine speed low, thus resulting in the jerks some have mentioned here. I wonder if the latest firmware update has resolved this issue. Can anyone confirm?

The article also contends that in Sport-mode, the transmission automatically downshifts when tapping on the brakes. Has anyone experienced this?
*
In s mode, Yes it downshifts the moment u hit the brake slightly.. I find it very useful..

what about jerking/grinding at low speeds and when shifting from R to D? Do you experience that?
*
No more jerks. Just slight grind noise on low gears. R to d no issues at all.

I went up to Cameron yesterday and D mode is all it need.. the gears shifts smoothly and delivers enough power while keeping rpm low. Only used s mode when twice when needed to takeover quickly before a narrow bend. I did tried using s mode for 10 minutes during climb but preferred D as it felt smoother. Fuel consumption reset at the start of climb to top finished at 11l/100km. No hard push.. light footed mostly 70‰. The car balance and handling was superb. The steering control is spot on. thumbup.gif

hi guys, heard from a friend that owns a titanium plus, that his engine vibrates intermittently at idle. It vibrates, then stop awhile, then vibrate again. Brought back to SA, they said its like that (engine's characteristics). Anyone else experience this?
*
i do not feel the vibration at all. the car is super quiet and calm when idle. i'm nearing 10000km already.

To all Focus owner out there, would like to ask some question about our beloved vehicle:

1) I noticed the blower (fan) are not consistent, sometimes it will get stronger suddenly and back to normal in few seconds time, especially notice able when you're put the blower stronger (level 3-4 and above), but thanks to my sensitive ears, I notice it even in level 1...

yes i face the same symptoms. servicing the car in 2weeks and will ask them about this.
also, when you on the blower to your legs i notice the blower to the cabin is so weak. like 80% of the air goes to the leg area and only 20% to the cabin.

I could live without the additional features...but kiasu that I would regret like you did....additional features would mean additinal things to repair/service later on.
so far what is the best deal been offer for focus?
*
Initially I I had this same thought about the additional repair and chose non plus. But after driving for couple of weeks and reading how good the auto cruise giving some excellent fuel consumption made me regretted about never buying the plus and also for the sensor. But then some members since so dependent on front sensor often ignore or less bothered about ended up hitting with lower objects when parking... And actually I'm now getting good mileage with good foot control made me feel not to regret by choosing non plus...

ford focus sport+ has any defects ???

plan to get a new car since there are alot of promotion for car
*
what you mean by defects? there should not be any defects on new cars correct?
the only thing is get to know about the DCT characteristics from many forum posts here. If you think you can adapt to the mild juddering at the beginning and the grinding noise during low gear transmission, absolutely go for it. its a good value car for the money compared to it's competitors.

Went 1st service today at sac PJ.. 7 hours of time to get normal service plus a complaint of noise on uneven road. Ended up with diagnosis of faulty steering rack assy for the noise we are all complaining about on uneven roadster .. the service advisor will submit for warranty claim and part order... probably in about 2 weeks should get call once part arrive. Was told need to leave the car for 2 days there to get it replaced.

about the noise... the rubber seal with 3m stickers.... eventually at first i felt it made some difference but as the mileage increase i find it the noise got worse..... so i;ve taken them out...
i believe it can make difference if we find the right place to use it...
one more caution.... stick it at wrong place it makes the sound even worse aand potentially it even can make your door to lari from the door alignment as it may push the door if too much pressure due to the gap being filled with extra rubbers. i do made the mistake and i can feel that the door has a slightly bigger gap in between the back door and the front door.
i don't think its worthy to use that rubber seal la. im getting used to it already. the great audio setup helps... :-)

hi all.. need opinion.. really interest on focus
but many people mention about the jerking problem
and really not suitable in city drive.. will always jerk
i mainly for city drive only
the problem really serious??
any owner only city drive here??
*
The jerk only felt at the beginning.. as you drive and the mileage increases the jerk will slowly disappears. Also once you know how to control your feet, you'll have good time with the DCT. Go for it, you will never regret.

Yes, the vehicle is pretty restless at low speeds.
*
an alternative is to use S mode when in such situation where the speed remains below 40kmh... hill/slope with bumps. less or no jerks at all. thumbup.gif

Slope with speed bumps - this will bring out the worst in the Focus. All grinding sound and jerks will come out.

I only tried Petronas in the first 2,000km. Tried Caltex briefly and now only BHP. BHP feels good without much jerks, but when switching from one fuel to another fuel, the car may show more jerks as it adjusts to the different type of fuel. Better to not change fuels too often I think. Switching from RON95 to RON97 I feel more power but the jerks at low speeds seem a bit stronger. Now back to RON95 as seem to be throwing money with RON97(additional RM30-40 with one full tank).
*
agree with Dwango, on 1st try with Shell Ron97 now... it costed me RM30 more for full tank..
the accleleration feels much awesome but i feel the price paid is too much for the short fun.
Will be back to Shell Ron95. I prefer BHP (but they do not accept AMEX) as feels smoother but using Shell as for AMEX points + Bonuslink.

worst than restless, whenever i see slopes am very worry especially with passengers. My family members already asking if I made a bad purchase *sigh*.
I like the Focus since first generation and didnt expect this to haunt me.
*
bro... like i mentioned previously try get used to S mode without manually using the powershift + -. the gear changes at higher RPM automatically and less/no jerks.

QUOTE(dares @ Jan 7 2014, 05:44 PM)
That's the price you pay for the efficiency of a dual clutch transmission. It is different from traditional torque converters for sure, it is more sophisticated and more temperamental at low speeds.

If you are used to a torque converter auto and worry about the eccentricities of a dual-clutch drivetrain, I can only advise you to think long and hard before making the jump. It will never be as comfortable as a torque converter when going slow or going up slopes, you will no doubt need to adjust the way you drive. If you cannot accept that, then go for something like the new Mazda 3 that is almost as nice to drive but comes with the benefit of a torque converter.

Choose the Focus ONLY if you are looking forward to superior driving dynamics and driver's enjoyment. If you're looking for passenger comfort and cares not so much about driving, an Altis, Civic or Mazda3 is a better choice

BHP Ron95 seems goes very well with our Focus.
Initially i used BHP then Shell for the Bonuslink and CC points. I've been using Shell since my 10k service for about 4 fuel ups. It felt very sluggish. Tried Ron97 Shell better acceleration but expensive.
I pumped in Ron95 BHP it feels like the car got some boost.
I've always been sceptical about differences between fuel that it not much difference but BHP really differs. Its smooth and superb acceleration.
Anyone find it to be same?
