QUOTE(nairud @ Nov 8 2013, 03:00 PM)
so you had yours applied with the new update and asked them to check for possible leakage?
*
The leakage is internal; notably from the DCT to the clutches, so it's not really possible to see any "visible" signs of leak unless it's really bad or taken apart. Also, many of the SCs here don't diagnose the problem using the current TSB but some do replace the clutches directly if the software update doesn't resolve it.

As for the update, I haven't updated mine as the SC wasn't having the latest firmware when I went for my last service.

QUOTE(usucx @ Nov 9 2013, 08:25 PM)
Guys,
After the software upgrade, no more juddering from the car. Somehow the car increase the acceleration pace during low gear. Just a light pedal press from idle to moving you will feel the difference. Also a red light stripe is turned on near the sunglasses compartment during night time.
*
QUOTE(craving @ Nov 12 2013, 12:08 PM)
ok software upgraded, shuddering lesser but still there. So whats next?
*
Which SC did you receive the update & can I know the version used - there have been several versions since the FoFo Mk3 had been launched so it's best to know that the version number being used.

QUOTE(usucx @ Nov 10 2013, 03:49 PM)
Tried already, but could not get into diagnostics mode after pressing OK right buttom and START button simultaneously.... am i doing it wrong?
*
bro, follow these steps carefully :-

1) while the car is off, hold the OK button on the right of the steering
2) while holding the OK button, press the START button without pressing the brake
3) after 5-10 seconds, the words TEST should appear on your screen - remember to hold the OK button until this happens.

I'm already on EEPROM 24.204 since I purchased my car in July 2013 - no updates made so far but still having the grinding sound on Gears 1 & 2.

I may be wrong but we might be seeing the wrong software instead; the transmission calibration update may only be checked with an IDS (Integrated Diagnostic System; unlike the OBD2 scanner which is only a reader, this is also a writer) that is available at the SC.

If you see TSB 13-9-4, it mentions the following :-

"Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM)/transmission control module (TCM) module to the latest calibration using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) release 86.01 or higher. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com."

If anyone can verify or share with us on how we can identify the transmission calibration update by ourselves - that would be excellent. In the meantime, let's continue to google & also see if we could get this info from any of the SC people.

UPDATE:-

After some research, I managed to retrieve the following info :-

All about IDS - a must read to all Focus enthusiast

How to update the Calibration software via IDS

How to check Calibration version for Mondeo (should be same with Focus)

Latest available - IDS 87.03 (requires 87.01)

DO REMEMBER TO ONLY PERFORM ANY OF THESE UPDATES THROUGH AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER ELSE YOU MAY EITHER VOID YOUR WARRANTY OR POSSIBLY DAMAGE YOUR VEHICLE.

QUOTE(vyruzj @ Nov 18 2013, 09:05 AM)
Hi All,

An update. Low speed juddering still not present, but just this morning in a jam, i experience that the car is sometime in-decisive when changing gear. It constantly switches between 1 and 2, otherwise its all good. Will update again once it passes 500km.
*
The indecisiveness in sudden speed burst or drops is pretty normal - just like a normal manual car where the driver may up or downshift in a sudden manner during similar situations.

Do note that the transmission requires a burn-in (more of learning) period where it studies the driving pattern of the driver. This may take about 1000km (for city only driving; where shifting of gears is frequent) or up to 3000km (for highway driving; where shifting of gears doesn't occur too frequently).

The issue on the shuddering and grinding actually may have a relation to this IF your have passed your burn-in period & are experiencing this in frequently under normal driving conditions; where the transmission isn't correctly calibrated on the proper shift patterns and engages/disengages the clutches prematurely/late.

Take note that if the software update doesn't rectify the issue faced (specifically to those that had FREQUENT shuddering, shift issues when mileage is high i.e. >10000km), it might be a seal leak that has occurred onto the clutch plates - causing it to slip / difficult to engage. See TSB 13-9-4 which actually addresses this.

I do believe you may not have these issues since your car is relatively new and may already have the latest transmission calibration software pre-installed - so don't get too worked up and enjoy your ride.

Same floor as well bro icon_rolleyes.gif

Haha, didn't know it was catching people's attention - sent to Meguairs in Sunway (Shineway) for claying & waxing on the weekends.

I was contemplating of getting the Midnight Blue as well, but went for Silver because it's a lazy man's colour - dust isn't obvious and has the "sentiasa bersinar" look thumbup.gif

We should probably kena one TT at Rims over the week !

don't tell me we are working at same place... AIGGS?

Haha, not the same place - anyhow, let's not spam the board - just added you on FB.

This car requires alot of upkeep alright - especially driving to Cyber; the dust, stones and heavy rain can really make the car look like a rally car at the day's end.

Anyhow, to all those staying around Sunway / Subang - do drop by Shineway near Sunway University, the level of detailing is good & the boss is a nice chap & very meticulous fellow - who also owned a Focus Mk2 before.

It's RM98 bro - this is the walk-in rates but you may inquire for membership, package deals which is lesser.
You may try to see if there's any deals online as well rclxm9.gif

Actually my aim of regular claying and waxng was to achieve following :-

1) Maintain the polishing that I've done for about 6 months
2) Prevent permanent water marks
3) Remove insect and bug splatter while driving on the Cyberjaya Highway

I can say with over 500km of driving in a week under rain and highway driving, either once a week or once every 2 weeks with a wash every week - all this depends on your environment and surroundings, as some do up to a month once.

Wow... doing a clay & wax every other week is pretty financially "stressful" doing it outside. Hope you are getting a good deal and that they are doing a quality job for you.

I've been trying to keep up the discipline of washing it myself weekly, and either a self-applied wipe-on wax or sealant every other week, but honestly have skipped a few weeks in the past 5 months of ownership. Did a clay once at the start, and recently just the hood.... makes a HUGE difference! Plan to do the rest of the car this weekend (barring bad weather).

Have yet to send it off for a professional polish, even though the SA said they touched it up before handover. Overall the look is still acceptable to my untrained eye; no noticeable swirls/marring.

*sigh!* The agony and the ecstasy of Midnight Blue!!
*
True enough bro - however with the deal and quality of service received, I'm quite happy although I'm always present when my car is being detailed.
Also, it isn't feasible for me to do claying and waxing as I don't have the right conditions at home to perform them, so best leave it to the right people.
For me, I spend time to detail my interior (seats, door panels and dashboards) with the leather cleaner and conditioner only since I end up doing it once every 2 months and it cost a bomb doing it outside.

Claying, if done properly, saves your clearcoat by preventing dirt and insect leftovers. However, if too much pressure is applied or the surface isn't clean enough before application could easily cause scrathes instead.

No swirl marks are good - it's a crucial observation as some "so called" detailing guys can't even notice this thumbup.gif

Any Focus owners here with mileage 8,000km and above who experience serious jerks, grinding sound and vibration as Craving? Just to be sure that the issues are not only affecting one(1) unit but the rest as well.
*
Count me in - current mileage @ 13k and became more apparent after 8k as said.

FYI, one of the owner's got their rattling sound as well as juddering and grinding sound fixed by sending it to the Ford PJ SC & they basically replaced the clutch assembly and a few other stuff. Good news is that it was fixed and sounds never returned since a week of driving (see the TSB I've posted before) but bad news is that it took 3 weeks (car was left at the SC) wink.gif

I was told by some of the owners that it's probably a week job but took longer - however, they do offer a spare car to use if available.

It may just be a software calibration, so I don't get too worked up on debating if the Ford Focus isn't worth the purchase but head to the SC instead.

For me, issues such as this are expected to happen (not life threatening or unidentified by the manufacturer) as long as it can be rectified for good without incurring any overhead to me.

So far I drove a few friends of mine, who's into car, they simply love this vehicle and they're surprise with this price tag comes along a long list of features in it icon_idea.gif

Where can you get such premium features with 3 years free service and 5 years warranty that even covers wiper blades, brake pads and even the battery - all this for a great price tag?

Do you know that our Ford Focus Mk3 cost RM96,400 (Titanium Non Plus) to RM 108400 (Sport Plus) from Thailand?

http://www.ford.co.th/en/cars/new-focus/sp...ions/price-list

http://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/conver...From=THB&To=MYR

Our car is very reasonably prices along with the fact that Ford Thailand only provides 3 years / 60000km warranty & service.

Try running on Cruise Control - definitely helped many members improve their FC. Not that it's a miracle function but more like it function's miraculously since most of us are heavy-footed / kaki accelerator & this function allows just enough fuel to achieve the desired speed.

I've been getting a consistent mileage of 600km per week, per full tank. Translates to about 8.2-8.4l/100km - 55% city (KL/PJ) & 45% Hway.

Previously, my personal best was two & fro KL-Penang, which was one full tank and FC was ~ 6l/100km without Cruise Control. Other's have even achieved up to 1000km in a single tank - so it's heavily dependent on driving conditions and style.

May I ask if any owners here do not experience even the slightest rattling sound from the steering wheel when the vehicle is going over bad or rough surfaced roads? I want to determine if my vehicle is one of the few that exhibits this rattling sound in the steering wheel. I plan to bring it up to the service centre very soon to see if the rattling sound can be eliminated.

Thanks.

Bro,

Thank you for sharing your experience here. Glad to say that both me and wife have flexible working hours and each time car failed to start luckily car is at home. Wife drive the car most of the time and she is heavily pregnant now. Had it happen at her office basement car park or somewhere middle of the road, I think I will rush there with a few journalist or maybe police officer due to safety reasons...

Anyway, next week I will give puchong service center last chance as they promise to replace with a new battery. If the battery failed again, obviously is something terribly wrong with the car. Even if Someone very well-versed with cars, I don't think we need to pay that much attention each time we switch off the car or lock the car. In fact both me and wife have a habit of switching off the air con every time before switch off engine. Until now never use the USB/cigarette lighter before..

Even if they manage to solve my problem, i will still complain in their fb page. I will ask my insurer to provide a summary of auto assist help being requested as a proof

After such experience, I think is hard to recommend this car to others especially female driver where realibility is the biggest concern in current environment...
*
Had my Focus Titanium+ (mfc. June 2013 reg. July 2013 @ 14000km) not started since Tuesday evening to Saturday evening (4 days) but had no problems or difficulties starting it.

Also, I had checked the battery at the SC after hearing over these issues with a few of the owners (now urself) but the charge was good. Also, have a bluetooth OBD2 scanner to monitor the pre-crank, crank and post-crank charging voltage & I have something like this; pre (11.7), crank (~10.9), post (12.6 when idling, 13.4 when cruising).

From the research done, a defective battery can't retain the charge, so the crank voltage may even dip below 10/9v & pre-crank may be in it's 10s.

2 possibilities you may look into; current being drawn when no in use - electronics including screen are shut off in 20 mins from ignition off, if doors are unlocked. If doors are locked, it happens nearly immediately. Second possibility is a faulty battery that could have been kept too long in storage (under sun) before transported to Malaysia.

My advice, I'm not sure about the SC you're going to but I can advice you to try SDAC, PJ & speak to the branch manager there - well spoken and if he is informed beforehand, your issue would most likely be addressed in the best possible way. You may try the same with the other SCs instead of raising your issues to the foremans or mechanics first.

Hi All, im going to get my focus titanium plus next two weeks. Any recommendation for car tint? SA recommend Raytech, is this good? How about 3M or HO?
*
Depends on your budget - Raytech is well balanced but wouldn't be the best when it comes to heat rejection against 3M Crystalline - which probably has one of the best heat rejections yet. LLumar Diamond - has a solid security film and very good HR but with a similar price tag with 3M.

But most importantly, I have learnt, isn't the brands or the specs of the tint alone but the workmanship - believe me, if lint or hair gets trapped, you're gonna spend hours to get it corrected & having your door panels removed and installed (something you wouldn't like doing to your ride often).

True that - did they tell roughly how many more days before the loan agreement is ready? mine took about 2 days from the verification to the collection of the LA.
Black is another nice colour - in fact, all the colours for the Focus are damn nice, it's hard to not admire when you see it!
