Trade Zone Enforcers

An Introduction

Trading on Lowyat.NET has grown tremendously over the past 2 years, and hundreds of items get traded on Lowyat.NET weekly. Garage Sales and its subforums have the largest traffic among all the forums. As a result, it is impossible for our moderating team to moderate Trade Zone as it should be. While we have disclaimers and we remind you that transactions conducted in Garage Sales are between seller and buyer, with Lowyat.NET being a non-party, we understand the need for a safer trading environment.

We have plenty of long time members and sharp enough members who can spot an outright fraud and as evidenced in a recent con case, they did post up warnings. However, greed transcends common sense, and warnings went unheeded. As such, we have created a new member group, the Trade Zone Enforcers user posted image

An Overview

Trade Zone Enforcers are not moderators and do not constitute part of the moderating team. They remain regular members; with an added privilege of being able to close threads and invisible (disapprove) threads within the Trade Zone. Trade Zone Enforcers have no privilege to delete any thread or edit any post. Any thread acted upon by a Trade Zone Enforcer will then be reviewed by a moderator in charge.

The rationale of having Trade Zone Enforcers is to nip con cases, or potential con cases, before somebody gets hurt. We won't be able to stop all con cases, but the ones we can, we will. The ones we don't, at least we tried. And no, you don't get to blame Trade Zone Enforcers if you got cheated.

For identification purposes, they shall be given a new tag, to be fitted below the Gender tag, and where relevant, replace the 'Safe Trader' tag.

Trade Zone Enforcers will be chosen by the Administrators with advice from the entire moderating team, and of course, you can throw in your suggestions as well via PM to a Forum Admin. Selection will be rigorous and we expect no more than 10 Trade Zone Enforcers, subject to forum growth and initial success of plan. We will make an announcement as new Trade Zone Enforcers are appointed.

Criteria for selecting Trade Zone Enforcers

. Honest and trustworthy themselves
. Visit the trade zone often
. Knows the prices, stock availability and keeps in touch with developments in new products
. Makes good decisions
. Has some guts
. Preferably, but not limited to, Safe Traders
. Known within the community as respectable individuals

What we hope to achieve

. A safer environment for trading
. Potential con threads get acted upon quickly
. Imitation or illegal goods get shut down with more urgency
. A more legitimate and relevant community of traders

As always, questions and concerns may be raised at Feedback & Helpdesk.
