Since no official thread created for Acer Iconia B1 series. I am going to put all the info of Iconia B1 series here cause Acer Malaysia has posted official link page at here. So this model is definitely coming soon to Malaysia market.

SRP is unknown at the moment but expected to be below RM500. How low depend on how Acer Malaysia see how big is for Malaysian market which quite frankly is quite price sensitive market. sweat.gif Don't expect magic selling price of RM299 (around US$99), but we can only hope tongue.gif

SRP for this model is RM399

Below is the spec:-

Android Jelly Bean
MediaTek MT8317T Dual Core ARM Cortex A9 1.2GHz
7" 1024x600 resolution
512MB RAM
Build-in WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0 and GPS. No 3G...
8 / 16 GB ROM expandable with microSD slot
0.3 MP Front camera, No rear camera
2,710 mAh Battery
197.4 x 128.5 x 11.3mm - weight - 320g

Some how it's a medium spec device, built to compete with Nexus 7

With it's price point, it does makes a huge difference for those who wanted to get a low price tablet but with great warranty and after sales support

Though 512MB of ram is kinda less

See how ASUS priced 16GB Nexus 7 form RM999 to RM899 locally; don't expect good pricing on Nexus series in Malaysia.

Come to think of it: U can actually buy 2 Acer tablet with almost same price Nexus 7.

512MB seem limited somehow but if u only use for Internet surfing and Facebooking should be enough...

My only concern is software compatibility with Android app and games like Angry Bird cause of Mediatek SoC processor is not well known ...

Hmm bro, this tablet has GPS and BT, which almost all the cheapo RM300-500 tablets don't have. That makes it worthwhile.

There's always the discounted Mediapads whistling.gif everything and the kitchen sink.

Balancing price between specs

There's review stated that it is good for browsing but the sensitivity of the screen is not that fast

In addition, the screen suffers at different viewing angle

sweat.gif i guess it is mostly for browsing, light to midcore gaming and eBook reading etc

laugh.gif it's good to see the price point gives opportunity to everyone to own a tablet

I am using Sony Xperia Mini Pro with 512MB RAM - seem ok. Guess depend on any extra UI/launcher u running. Acer Iconia B1 seem running at stock Android without much customization...so basic Android experience should be OK...

Yeah, good as Second/Third tablet for GF/children to play around...without worrying warranty and benefit of Official Google Play Store

RM299 seem too low to reach even for Acer .... One can only hope tongue.gif

Acer @ Taiwan has announced pricing for Iconia B1 - NT$4,990 - around RM500. Guess we don't expect local here having better price...

Asus lunch their cheap MEMO pad ME172V here, selling rm499 at low yat.
acer always sell better spec with slightly better price , so RM499 should be the "most" expensive price what we can get.

otherwise, you can get ainol novo 7 fire , if acer sell b1 over rm500. man, that ME172V spec sucks, no gps and bluetooth.
i waiting to get 2 iconia tab if launched!

Tok Man here are some summary on my breif time using it.
Build Quality - as for me is good metal on the back plastic on the front. Fingerprint magnet.
Display (Touchscreen) - Brightness is ok with me. Touch is responsive.
Browsing. - Can handle my normal browsing activities like website such as gsm arena endgadget and stuff. Speed i never tested but seems ok
UI - Android jelly bean babe..hehe vanila some more what can i say..hehe
Media - mp3 no problem, HD movies abit strunggling at 1080p. Speaker abit slow but on headphone and earphone sound great.
Gaming - tried temple run 2 run smoothly with no problem
My opinion this is a well balance entry level tablet. In this segment thad to give and take but the dual core processor and jelly bean is my main attraction.

Yeah i agree. They offered me an option to chose the 16gig microsd and the headphones and i choose the headphone because i already have spare 32 gig micro sd. I think this is due to promotion during they 5 days sales from 27th up to today. I dun know if they going to sell the tablet with the bundle deal of not after this.

most of website say so. it wont support otg. because it didnt supply power via otg to your pendrive/mouse/keyboard/gamepad to run. but they do suggest it may work with any external storage that using external power e.g external hard drive with its own power supply

Today tried to fing a screen protector for this tablet but since it just released there is readily avaialble sp for this tabler. I end up modified a nexus seven sp for the time being. On the heavy 3d game i will try my best iqmal. I will updated once i run some of them. Thinking of running some benchmarking software. Anyhow ADMIN wanna make user list? If u are then add me in.

not sure its better or not, bcause each of it had pro and cons

- memo pad can support hd movie at 1080p without no problem. b1 having struggle playing 1080p but 720p no problem
- memo single core 1ghz, 1gb ram and mali-400. b1 dual core 1.2ghz, 512mbram and powervr sx531. the rest of both 2 almost same
- running casual game in memo quite good but struggling when come to 3d. b1 had no problem at all, as most 3d games adopt dual core
- mali-400 gpu good at 2d but not 3d. powervr sx531 is another way round
- b1 body material feels cheap with plastical screen (YES! its plastic! sorry to say this but depends on how you feel it). memo feel a bit like premium, because some say its body sames as nexus 7

the choice is your. if youre not gamers, memo suite you. if youre moderate gamers, go for b1. if youre heavy maniac enthutiast hardcore gamer, both wont suite you. go get those with high end gpu and cpu

btw, there's other know brand budget tablet other than these 2, like Alcatel one touch t10 (i found seller at digital mall) and MSI winpad 7 plus

I tried some older games like samurai vengeance and heavy gunner and it ran smoothly. The main weakness is that this tablet is very sluggish when playing 1080 hd video.

Hey guys I just sent my Acer Iconia B1 for Warranty after 1 day of owning it sad.gif

The tablet just froze while I was surfing the Internet this morning and tried to power off n etc but was not responding..Really bad experience so far

Anyways I sent it to Highpoint Service Network (Acer Authorized Service Centre) in PJ and even the staff there didn't know this product existed and had zero knowledge or hands-on with this tablet..I was pretty frustrated at that time at the service levels of Acer and I requested for a replacement as it was only 1 day old and I was told I have to wait 3 working days to find out the outcome

For those of you wanting to buy this tablet I suggest you hold out and get better tablets out there as Acer Aftersales and Warranty seems very inefficient and the staff are not well trained to help you out with your problems

I purchased my 8G Iconia B1 for RM 399 from Low Yat Plaza about nearly a month ago.

My family and I have been using it a lot now, surfing the web, playing lots of games, watching videos, reading e-books, etc.

There is no problem at all, I am very satisfied with the tablet.

The web surfing speed is very fast. There is no problem playing games, including those taxing ones. The much worried low RAM does not seen to be a problem at all in its performance.

I added a 16 G external SD card and it has enough storage for my usage. I do believe as we can add external SD storage up to 32G, there is no need to buy the 16 G internal storage device at a higher price if we can get the cheaper one with 8G internal storage.

And the 7 inch form factor is really ideal, it is light enough for me to hold for long time with one hand or to use it at any angle of viewing.

In terms of the product build, it is not bad. It is definitely not good looking as it is plastic. But it does feel it is solid enough, and my tablet has taken quite a bit of rough treatment, knocks and drops during the one month usage, and it is holding up well.

The screen resolution is decent. It is not the best, but can be considered one of the better ones. Most people should be satisfied with this screen resolution.

Another much publicized negative point about the product is the viewing angle of the screen. It is indeed limited. And it is very reflective. But I work around these weaknesses by holding the device at the right viewing angle.

All in all, for RM399, what a fantastic product this is. The RM1,100 Nexus 7, Galaxy Tab 2 and iPad mini are of course much better products. But the Iconia B1 is adequately good for just a fraction of the price. I congratulate Acer for being bold enough to sell this at this attractive price.

I was waiting for Nexus 7 for so long and instead of selling at RM799 or RM749, Asus Malaysia chose to launch the tablet at RM999. And because of that, I decided to forget about it and wait for better priced models. And thanks to Asus, I own the Iconia B1 now.

Just got a 16gb today at sen heng at 399 + points . Bang for buck really. The viewing angle is limited. The rest is good for the value. Gps works not bad at all . Try waze by tethering to my note 2 works fine. Games I have only tried Riptide GP full and works fine. Games should not be a problem if can handle the type of level. Good enough for me . Speed is fast overall and battery is acceptable if u do not addict to candy crush 24 hours. Verdict? I say get one even if u don't need one.

I am just reading from the storage info in the device. Internal SD* total space is just over 5 GB. My model is the 8 GB version. So, I hope that answers your question.

* The storage information shows (1) internal storage (which I believe maybe the RAM ?) (2) internal SD (which is what you asked) and (3) external storage (which is the external microSD card).

In addition to my earlier comments on the tablet, I would like to talk about the battery life too.

Based on my experience using it, here is the statistics:-

(1) Less than 3 hours if playing high end games, using GPS, watching movies, etc.

(2) Between 3 - 6 hours if normal games, web surfing, using wifi.

(3) More than 6 hours if low level stuff like reading and listening to music.

(4) Enough for a day if on standby and using for short period of time intermittently .

RM449 or RM399 + 100 senheng points (or some even at RM399) for the 16 GB version is very good price, so you should go for it. A 16GB micro SD card already cost RM36.

The wi-fi is pretty stable and connection is good for my device.

I have not downloaded Real Racing (because I heard they keep asking you to buy stuff) but I am playing Shadow Gun Dead Zone. I don't know if this is high end game enough or not, but it runs smoothly.

Hey guys after sending to Acer for RMA last week they issued me a Replacement Unit biggrin.gif

This is in deed a very good news to all iconia B1 owners. A low end pad with high end customer service.

I hope you have a better experience with the replacement unit.

For FPS games, i have played Shadow Gun : Dead Zone. It plays ok. Does this qualify as FPS ?

I understand from a dealer that Acer is not producing the 8GB model anymore. It will only be 16 GB now on and the recommended retail price is RM 449.

This is a common practice, Asus did the same thing with Nexus 7. It is not selling wifi model (priced at RM899) anymore. Only the wifi + 3G model (with 16 GB memory) is available at RM1,099.

Acer Malaysia tested the market with the the 8 GB model and now is selling the higher priced model to get better profit margin. There are several other branded 7 inch tablets in the market now in the RM 400 plus price range, such as Asus' Memo Pad and MSI.

The 16GB Iconia B1 is available at the ongoing PC Fair in KLCC.

Any senheng outlet is selling right now.  I brought it at Teluk Intan Perak. They have only 2 arrive in the morning and gone by 3 o clock. Just been there to buy a xperia Z  and ordered another acer B1 unit for a friend just now .Have to wait for a few days for stock. It is member points redeemtion month so its 100 points + RM 399 for a 16gb Acer B1.

Heck, Its cheap. You can't go wrong with that.
I been using first android sony X10 mini . Root,flash,fast boot,custom roms,cynogen,miui been there,done that. Present android Sony XPS,Samsung Note 2,Dell streak 5,  2 unit Acer A500,Acer 501,Samsung TAB 7. Past android sony X10 mini,sony X10,Sony Arc,Cls mi300,ZTE Blade.
The amount of money i have spent for the above... u can't go wrong with 399...

The RM 499 price could be for 16 GB. But some people here said the 16GB version can be bought at RM399 or thereabout.

In Shah Alam, you probably have to go to Low Yat Plaza and to the PC Fair in KLCC last weekend.
