There are many international reviews which claim that both these tyres are better than the other. But generally, they claim that the Michelin PSS has better dry braking while the Assy 2 is better on wet surfaces. What do you think?

Im asking for actual facts here and not just preferential statements. Really wanna know the positives and negatives of each of these tyres especially in the following aspects:

1) Wet and dry braking
2) Comfort
3) Tyre noise
4) Rolling resistance
5) Durability

Price wise, a 235-45-18 Assy 2 costs about RM880-900 while the PSS costs between RM 1090-1250 per tyre. Thats a good >RM 200 difference per tyre.

He is asking for actual facts, not preferential opinions. Maybe that is why nobody answered as all will be based on personal usage and opinion on different car makes...

first off, you have to understand that not many people have R18 tires, and even less would spend around/over MYR1k per piece of tire. i can buy a set of 4 pieces tire for my R15 and still have more than enough cash to eat for a week.

so depending on what your "criteria" of facts may be, you probably may or may not find the answers you seeks.

from my personal perspective, i definitely never used those tires myself, nor do i ever plan to have 18" rims at all even in the distant future.

however i have read up reviews/specs/info on the 2 tires, and the "facts" are very similar to what you've probably already known/gathered.

so with the rather long disclaimer given, ill provide my "facts":
1) AS2 better on wet. better water channeling grooves design, more major water channeling grooves (4 vs 3!)

2) PSS wins. michelin has always been a favorite when it comes to comfort/NVH considering the vast feedback on XM2/PS3. overrated or not, it is there. and i am very certain they would do better for their high end/flagship tires. majority of feedback on PSS is they have softer compound, and softer sidewalls.

3) PSS wins. similar/same reason as above. just from the grooves design, noticed that PSS as a very unique noise reduction design that majority of asymmetric tires follow. (even the AS2 btw) michelin seems to have taken a step further on that, however with the sacrifice of 1 water channeling groove.

4) PSS wins, softer compound generally means lesser rolling resistance

5) AS2 wins as harder compound means better treadwear/durability.

my personal take/preference on this:
Michelin is overrated and overprice. and the rm200 per tire (x4 all for wheels = rm800, so... yeah) backs my statement very damn well.

TS for the price of Micheline Super Sport 225-45-18,
Why don't u get Micheline Pilot Sport 3 with same 225-45-18?
It would be slightly cheaper & quite impressive in both dry and wet condition.

I have nvr tried Goodyear F1 Assy 2
but I have tried Continental CSC 5 and PSS and PS3 on 19 inch and 17 inch rims
from what I tested PS3 wet and dry grip is clearly on the losing end vs those ultra high performance tyres
as for CSC 5 and PSS, I shud say CSC 5 has better dry and wet grip than PSS but the noise level seems abit higher than PSS. Durability wise, almost the same with those 2 but mostly depends on how much air u pump la~

my personal experience though~ no facts~

Hi TS

If u don't mind about Goodyear tyre, I am always supported.

From my Kenari Duraca GA to Grand Livina using Assurance Fuel Max is very quiet spin and wet or dry, even across yellow line.

Currenty from Livina changed to Sylphy is ori Bridgestone quite noisy and bumpy on yellow line.

The next will be try EfficientGrip for quiet ride.
Now just wait my back-order from Tan Chong of 17" Impul rim smile.gif

PS3s are not high performance tyres. They are for daily drives so they can't compare in term of performance with PSS.

Anyone knows is Goodyear F1A2 a directional tire?
I think it is right?
Because Asymmetric means directional?

Yes probably. Cost me RM 4542 to get 4 Michelin PSS (inc allignment & balancing). But i got tired of comparing Assy2 and PSS so decided to just get the PSS. I spend alot of time on the highway and ive always found Michelin to last.

If you guy wanna ask for Goodyear Eagle F1 Asym 2,
ii am the user too.

From my personal review of the tyre :
The tyre grip is much impressive, when stopping or emergency stop.

Noise is quiet than others tries.
Web or dry is no problem when in the rain and hit on 120km/h.
Corner handeling as much as you shock on non brake at 90km/h for keep cornering.
Stick on stone? Had No issue, only the surface like glum rubber, when starting drive from your house as 1 minute can near the smaller flying stone and hit on internal side fender and after is gone.

So far i am has been ride in 4k Km already, in the condition still look new and same feeling when bought new.

Price is Rm460 per piece and made in Germany

RM460 means surely smaller rim size right? Yeah Assy 2 is surely much better than even Michelin PS3. Some aspects slightly better than Michelin PSS also. What tyres were u using before?

Am looking to change my tires too. Looking for comfort, quiet and reasonable amount of wear life too. So far, the michelin ps3, the Gy asym 2 and the Yokohama advan db are on my list.

Wanted to try Gy, but they don't have 225/50R17, 45 will be bouncy for me.

Well if ure looking for performance tyres, then ull have to give up on the comfort part especially for larger rims like 17" and above. Higher profile tyres will be noisy. Even my new Michelin PSS 18 inchers are noisy although not as much as my previous Nexens. But u get excellent wet and dry braking and really good cornering abilities. Overall i think that the Assy 2 are quite good for the price ure paying. Comparable with Michelin PSS for certain criteria.

Forte suspension is slightly hard.

For the tips and prefer you change into 16inch rims or used thicken profile on 50 and above.

If don't have 55 and change to 16 inch rims and used with 60 profile guaranty is solve the pumpy issue.

my guess is most likely ps3 since comments/feedbacks it is softer than GY F1 A2 (assuming you meant A2 and not D5)

Since u mentioned about D5, how is it compared to F1 in terms of comfort? Noise? I am not really into max performance, only driving a normal car, don't need super high performance tyre biggrin.gif

D5 is noisy as the name implies: directional 5, and directional tires are typically noisy as they are also catered for performance (which the D5 performance is very comparable to A2 however at a MUCH cheaper price)

Michelin Primacy LC is very quiet to me, even PS3 also very quiet ( cannot afford the price, RM500 per donut for my tyre size of 205/55/R16 )..looking for some performance, quiet and not very expensive ( <Rm400 la if possible )

very hard already considering your criteria, perhaps can consider Yokohama c drive 2?
less performance (especially wet, just drive slower ya) than ps3, less treadwear, however NVH/comfort should be better smile.gif

Yup, will consider that tyre, my father's car is changing into C Drive 2 soon, i can get to test it laugh.gif and make decision.. The tyre wear on the focus is more compared to my other car ( probably due to the weight and torque ), if using PS3 i think 30k km need to change tyre already rclxub.gif

problem with this 2 tyre is they wear out too fast... 30k already like 60% used already

Well it's treadwear rating 300 anyway to give excellent grip as they're UHP class tires. Should last until 50-60k kms depending on driving style which is acceptable provided the performance level they give. Some tires even have less treadwear rating such as Toyo T1S & Yokohama Advan Sport at 240 rating only. If you want long lasting tires then should go with rating of >400 which will be lower class performance wise. So there's always a trade-off. smile.gif

Even faster wear off can try 140 treadwear which is lowest treadwear for street tyre laugh.gif

If you wanna drive fast you need to train your eyes to be able to spot obstacles faster, and make sure you have good fast reflexes to avoid those. If cannot, then don't drive fast, especially in unfamiliar roads.

215/45 is also rather thin already (sidewall <10cm), so more prone to getting damaged by obstacles. Better change to one with >10cm sidewall if still within the tolerance.
