hey, im not sure if it's left over fish food..
yes it sticks to the plant.
description wise, that thing is yellowish inside like cloudy yellow & covered with a clear layer look like clear jelly. LOL
just checked the aquarium, the yellow stuff is gone but there's still the 'clear jelly' hanging on the plant.

Eh this is the second time i put fishes and guppy to my planted tank and they all die.

Why ah?

Plant poisonous?
*
if i were you, i'd check the water's status. temp, ph and all those leceh stuff.
and check if all the things in your aquarium are 'fish safe'
maybe google about your plant.
or i'll just do massive water change.

planted aquarium + cherry shrimp + otto - filter = possible?
read somewhere that apparently, if you do regular water changes (1/2 times a week), then you're fine without a filter..
is it true?

i've not seen any CRS / cherry shrimp (the cheaper rm2+ kind I think) / ghost shrimp / any other shrimps in that matter without a filter..

Possible provided there is minimum bioload and regular upkeep to keep the tank free. CRS is out ofreach though.
*
thanks smile.gif but how about water flow? it's not a necessity?

i have keep them in an 15cm tank without filter like a Betta fish setup, i just have some stone , lava rock and bio ring as substrate.
water change only when i see fit.
You can also use fan to blow across water surface to achieve water flow, and reduce tank temp as well.
But why you want to have this kind of setup without filter, it is bcos of the filter noise?

if you are into shrimps, come join our group at http://www.facebook.com/groups/neocaridinafarmer/ for more help/info.
*
actually im just wondering cause i read about it somewhere and was surprised that it lives without filter.
and yes, im interested in setting up an aquarium for shrimps that's why i was reading up.
but just a tiny one probably less than a one footer. probably nano..

so i was thinking that if they really dont need it, i'd be able to save cost and spend on supplements.
and also if no filter is really fine then why not right? less noise anyway..

Just want to have an aquarium to 'keep stock' of my ghost shrimps.
reason being that shops dont allow me to buy in small amounts.
at least 30 shrimps per purchase. and if i dump all in my crayfish's aquarium = over stock & messy
with that aquarium, i'd keep my ghost shrimp stock & add some cherry &/ sakura for some colors & education before proceeding to another tank with CRS

ghost shrimp + rcs is not a godd idea.. all your crs will become buffet for the ghost..
If you want to save on maintenance, please add a filter. a HOB at price of rm20 more than enough for 1ft tank. or you can provide them with air bubble.
*
hmm if that's the case, i'll hang on to one species first then..
i dont mind spending on filter.
aint air bubble & filter 2 different things with 2 different functions?
wont there be a difference if i substitute filter with an air bubble?
hence im wondering if what the shrimp really needs is water current

thanks for your reply smile.gif

I think what Kim mean is can use those sponge filter powered by air pump, this is good cos you have filter and provide oxygen to tank as well also can provide some water flow. Just use sand or fake stone when setting up a shrimps only tank. Soil like Ada will take a lot of time to cycle to be safe for keeping shrimps.
*
owh... then it makes sense.. haha im using that type of filtration system for my crayfish..
planing to use Shirui sand since i have alot left..
thanks for explaining smile.gif

hahaha...
my tank already have a small bunch of flame moss inside...around 8cmx8cm
lately i'm quite busy to observe them...maybe they're hiding in there...
tongue.gif

p/s:
the way i see it..
i see it as a "circle of life"...
as in nature also there's a predator and prey
but mine prey is much more expensive than mine predator laugh.gif
*
just sharing,
so far I have kept fancy guppies, neons, cardinals, cherry barbs, danios, glolight all together in my planted aquarium without any deaths..
i realised that if i keep them in groups of at least 4 or 5, they'll be fine..
the only predator in my aquarium now is a Crayfish.. but i provide ghost shrimps for him to prey on. heh..

happy experimenting all.. smile.gif
