very basic test with white cooking vinegar biggrin.gif can drip it on stones or, for sand just put vinegar in see thru container and put sand in.
just to test if it will raise the water hardness. if it sizzle(can see white bubble forming rapidly) most likely its not safe for ur shrimps.

Owh I see.... thx 4 sharing this piece of info. Any scientific explanation to this? Why will it sizzle etc. Any idea?

mmm... logically it should be like this- our planted tank is acidic-mildly, if the stone or sand react to this mildly acid water it will slowly dissolve into the water increasing its hardness. the cooking vinegar hav a much lower ph- more acidic, thus if the sand or stone react to cooking vinegar the reaction will be much more violent hence you can observe the bubbles. where as if its in ur tank, it react at a slower pace hence you might not notice it until-death shrimp.

I normally upload it to photobucket and then copy the img link and paste it here. Dunno how others do it. There may be other ways.

The tank is 280 if not mistaken, it came with a normal filter & Amazonia 2...
Bought it at 88petsmart sunway mas.

The soil im using is Amazonia 2 & power sand .. I mixed up during the rescape cry.gif
I'm using a Fluval C2 HOB filter on the current tank rclxm9.gif

i did not run the tank for 3-4weeks due to the wall plug failure caused by my Aquazonic fuse blown.. mad.gif
