if there is lot of snail, better disinfect 1st. coz u dont wanna deal with huge numbers of snail. esp the snail eggs that u cant see

i never do that just rinse with tap water. coz i purposely put that snail to the tank, just manage the numbers.

if there is numbers of snail in ur tank, than use a bit of cabbage leaf, stick to the inner wall of the tank to lure them out and u can remove lot of them after that. instead to pick them out one by one

Im new in this and planning to buy few plants soon. Can we just put the newly bought plants in 'treatment tank' with only top-filter fills with normal white sponge filter and let them run in around 2-3 days? By the way, thanks a lot for your info. But I guess if our delivered plants is infested with lots of snails so it should be OK rite? lol rclxub.gif

good practices, put in activated carbon in the filter as well to remove pesticide/fert residue in new plants,
snails -> very subjective, some like it some don't , but if you want to kill all the snails in new plants with chemical then Don't put in the activated carbon first cos it will remove medication as well. After those pest snails removed then only use activated carbon.

submerge with activated carbon is essential when u have invertebrates coz the pesticide that maybe being used or the fert that have something that shrimp are not well with them.

but for only planted or fish only i donno if have huge advantage, but its a good practice biggrin.gif

so in conclusion, shall i do it like this for my 22x16x15cm moss & shrimp tank?
http://www.my-mac.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=11047

1, 1.5L bottle for the yeast & sugar mixture.

2, is this alright for bubble counter(gas separator) instead of using 500ml bottle?
http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum/showt...-and-checkvalve

3, i'll be using cigarette filter as my diffuser smile.gif

4, some suction cups to secure the tube to the glass

5, 2 check valves

6, btw, went to shop for check valves.. rm5 each dont know if it's expensive or cheap cause it's plastic
looks something like this user posted image

7, air control valve rm 3.50 for 1. (do i really need this?) looks like this

8, am i missing anything?

the usage for 500ml bottle is to make the alcohol go away from the air bubble rite? then i donno if that small water volume can help in long term.

if that's the case, does it mean that i just omit the syringe idea & use 1L bottle as gas separator & bubble counter?

keeping shrimps !! bro, your tank cycled already? if not got any soil like ADA amazonia soil inside?
if no soil just sand , then try feed as little as possible your shrimps and dose liquid bacteria daily till the tank cycled.
if there is ADA soil and tank not cycled, your shrimps have hard time of surviving.
and if those plants are new , they may have pesticide/fert that may kill your shrimps as well , to remove pesticide/fert, put them in a bucket with
activated carbon.

oh thanks for the tips!!! the soil is some leftover from a friend who got them from LFS, he also have no idea what soil it is...

emily: i did a DIY my co2 two days ago, i use "IV Drip" set cost me rm5 from pharmacy, it has around 1 meter tube, needles, one way valve thing, and a drip control valve.... i used those wet tissue as filter, and yea, they create real tiny bubble too. the drip control valve are able to completely close the airflow if u wanted it to stop. but my tube on the bottle cap burst the silicon out yesterday coz pressure too high~ i need to redo the recipe and use superglue for the bottle cap tubing.
