qz : is that right? i never knew about the alcohol toxic if only use 1 bottle method. no wonder my fishes were swimming left n right... drunked swim! haha..
about the cloudy water, its bacteria bloom. happens to new and old aquarium especially after u make water change + clean ur filter. a mini cycle will happen. so cloudy water will disappear a few hours after you've turned on your filter. if even after 1 day no effect, means ur filter not suitable (underpowered). |

oh.. i went without the control valve and no check valve. coz i find these 2 impede the co2 flow into the tank. even if backflow occurs, the tank will fill up the co2 bottle only. it wun spill over.
anyway, tats wat i did la... maybe a bit different experience.. hehe |

sorry for ur loss qz. refill for co2 gas tank is rm30 here in bp. but they send to jb to refill and takes about 3-5 days to come back.
the small cartridge refills are good only for small tanks. but to be honest, this type of cartridge is not feasible due to cost of bigger bottles are much much cheaper and lasts longer. downside for big bottle is that u need to find space for them n can be quite ugly to look at. |

i run the co2 24/7.. quite high bps (3-4bps) to bring down my tank's ph to suitable for plant pearling. its too hard to read even though i have a bubble counter.
i think i'm refilling like 3-4 times per year. plants are doing good and fishes are not complaining. the co2 indicator is light green with a bit of yellow hint. occasionally will have some algae problem. haha.. |

high ppm of nitrate is weird. maybe for time being only. if it gets higher, need to do water change.
i think high ppm of nitrate is due to high ammonia at first which results in higher nitrate levels. once the ammonia reduced, so the nitrate will go down also... |

air con room usually more dustier than normal room w/o aircon. becoz we normally close the room air tight less outside air can come in....
not much can do other than shifting ur moss more underwater... having said the above, wats ur moss doing on the water surface? |

i put the ceramic rings before the filter on the HOB. mainly because of the space constraint. to move the filter to the water motor is not impossible but i dun see the need to do it coz u can always rinse the ceramic rings with aquarium water to preserve the good bacteria.
anyway, i'm not against the swap of filter before ceramic rings or ceramic rings before filter. just saying that somethings are better if left as it is. |

bro arrow, i think he means inside the filter but inside filter ie hob is small space, hob got a few compartments.. ie wool filter or coarse filter then the bio ring etc...
most of time, hob is filled with coarse filter and white wool filter only... so we DIY put some bio-ring... just to clarify above |

ur fish or shrimps wun attempt suicide if nothing wrong with water or they're not freaked out by the other fishes. but i usually leave about 1" away from surface due to my angelfish are rather playful when food is served (they play water splashing) hahaha...

nerite can get it from my-mac forum. i bought a few but sad to say that my tank parameters not suitable for them. mine is acidic due to 24/7 co2. some already empty shells after 3 weeks... T_T
i think the ramshorn ot MTS will be better and if the plants dun rot, they won't attack it. This post has been edited by jctasoga: Mar 1 2013, 11:24 AM |
