Best to not disturb your filter media since that's where most of the beneficial bacteria will be at If there's really a need to clean the filter, best to use the aquarium water or water treated with anti chlorine first so that they won't kill the good bacteria lol.  I'll probably do 1-2 times 50% water change daily if your tank is small as the high concentrations of ammonia/nitrite/nitrate will kill your fish fast especially when you don't have an established bacteria colony yet

go for ph test pen. if u can differentiate between light green and dark green, u may go for the test kits. i am useless with colours, so i'm getting a ph testpen soon. unless the colour goes to bright yellow or blue... i can't tell the difference of light green to dark green... T_T

varial : TEC is more power hungry as compared to compressor chiller. I believe its suitable for small tanks below 2ft. anything above 2ft, can go for chiller due to TEC will be more cost prohibitive and also less efficient to chill large amount of water.

about the ph testkit, yes i feel its too hard to read the colours. numbers are easier.

where to get? already to search around garagesale, mostly are dc type. Maybe I should go and try one instead
