QUOTE(melodyworm @ Apr 5 2013, 09:12 PM) previously u were saying sth about testing with vinegar... what test was that? can u share? how to test as well? very basic test with white cooking vinegar just to test if it will raise the water hardness. if it sizzle(can see white bubble forming rapidly) most likely its not safe for ur shrimps. |

QUOTE(melodyworm @ Apr 6 2013, 04:11 AM) Owh I see.... thx 4 sharing this piece of info. Any scientific explanation to this? Why will it sizzle etc. Any idea? mmm... logically it should be like this- our planted tank is acidic-mildly, if the stone or sand react to this mildly acid water it will slowly dissolve into the water increasing its hardness. the cooking vinegar hav a much lower ph- more acidic, thus if the sand or stone react to cooking vinegar the reaction will be much more violent hence you can observe the bubbles. where as if its in ur tank, it react at a slower pace hence you might not notice it until-death shrimp. |

QUOTE(tzuen @ Apr 8 2013, 11:58 AM) Thanks for raising about this issues, never thought of it when purchasing the stones since they said just wash and it will be fine. drip some white vinegar on the stone and see if it sizzle Been digging lots info about proper stones that suitable for tanks. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic...n-the-aquarium/ still couldnt get the source of the stones that i've purchased. What sort of stones you guys using for your tanks? |
