gark... for value, do we look at revenue or net profit?
am looking at the results summary... revenue increased for cbip, but net profit for quarter decreased. eps also went down.. div also less.. can help to explain? the newspaper reports especially like to report diff sides of the coin. some will report results good, and some bad.. but essentially same counter. its how they extract out the info, and those who understand less, get confused (like me) This post has been edited by lambethwalk: Nov 21 2013, 07:57 PM |

QUOTE(lambethwalk @ Nov 21 2013, 07:54 PM) gark... for value, do we look at revenue or net profit? Always look at profit.. and especially where the profit comes from.am looking at the results summary... revenue increased for cbip, but net profit for quarter decreased. eps also went down.. div also less.. can help to explain? the newspaper reports especially like to report diff sides of the coin. some will report results good, and some bad.. but essentially same counter. its how they extract out the info, and those who understand less, get confused (like me) In CPIB, last 4Q, revenue, gross profit, net profit, EPS, DPS and NAV Q3FY2013 136,093 28,944 21,988 8.29 5.00 1.970 Q2FY2013 145,343 20,852 18,859 7.11 0.00 1.890 Q1FY2013 148,334 22,993 18,668 7.02 0.00 1.870 Q4FY2012 146,756 21,389 24,865 9.28 5.00 1.860 Q3FY2012 108,701 30,274 27,083 10.0910.001.770 As you can see although the profit is lesser than last year, the profit is still on the up trend compared to last 2Q. Expected dividend for CBIP is about 10-15 cent per year. Last year CBIP sold some plantation and distributed special dividend (one off 60 cents) which might makes the dividend smaller this year, so the Q3FY12 makes the profit and dividend 'look' higher. For this quarter..(if you look at the Q report in detail) actually the net profit is less due to higher losses from the palm oil plantation as the fruit is just ready to harvest (total revenue 100k, total loss -2.5mil) which is common in early stages of plantation. The palm oil mill works and SPV business has both recorded higher revenue and higher profits. Net Cash flow for this quarter is very much less due to planting cost at their 63k ha plantation. |

QUOTE(Boon3 @ Nov 21 2013, 07:59 PM) profits need to look into the future one... they just sold thier plantation for a nice profit so sure got loss of revenue.. now planting EVEN BIGGER plantation, then profit will be up up.. i think ha this CBIP smart one, buy land, plant, then sell the 'ready' made plantation at premium, with the money buy even more land, plant and sell it off later... Sales can always be 'manipulated'... You give me 100 books to sell. My cost is 10 bucks. All I cared about is sales revenue... To sell more... I cincai and sell at 10.10. I book earn 10 sen. Now instead of selling 100 books, I managed to sell 200 books. Cheap sale ma..... My sales revenue = 200 x 10.10 = 2020. But profit.... 200 x 10 sen = 20 Gark... the super calculative sales bugger.... One book, he go sell at 15. But since he sell so high... he only sold 20 books. Sale revenue = 20 x 15 = 300 only.... lose to Super saleman Ah Boon. But profit = 20 x 5 =100. Which salesman you want to sapu ? Most important is profit. Sometimes, as in the case of you know who.... Paper will say... sales geng... more $$$$$$.... But profit wise ...... Conclusion? Newspaper can really spin..... Not only local papers... US papers too.... |
