Not many problems, at least for the 1.4 petrol. I'd rather have the diesel. More powerful, low fuel consumption and manual gearbox. I don't like auto, particularly 4 speed ones, and the one Renault uses isn't a particularly good one even. But manual gearbox should be fine.

It is a proven engine IIRC, been used in most of their cars.

I guess this is a company car, so do check on how it was maintained and if you are allowed to own it (that 80/90 sticker looks horrible). Make sure it always saw the service center, or that Renault expert in KL. If it was sent to other workshops for service or repairs you may want to step away. It is a conti, and as such it is advisable to have the service center work on it. There are plenty of Kangoos, so they should be very experienced (the JB SC is). Parts you can get from Singapore, which cuts the price into half or less (if non-original). The SC is probably shared with Nissan, which has a good reputation for their SC. The same applies to Renault. Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful (they may even suggest you to go to outside workshops for certain repairs, if it's much cheaper there, or they suggest you source parts from outside, which they will install). Pricing is very fair, apart from spare parts perhaps (well, when it is half the price in SG...).

Otherwise it is a tough one, good to drive, comfortable, solid, can do relatively high speeds (150-160 shouldn't be a problem with that engine) without scaring you to death.

My Kangoo has almost 110k on the clock, mostly it's just wear and tear that is to be expected. Hasn't broken down on me, ever (in 2, almost 3 years of ownership), with the exception of a flat battery.

Problem don't have, but need to standby for touch up wear & tear on parts or PVC dashboard cracked as well.

If my car is any indication, then nope, no worries. The dashboard is much more solid than the metal body panels of a Viva. Seriously, the plastic used is so tough it is scary. Crash into there with your skull and your skull might be the one giving in. No signs of any wear or damage due to heat.

Private one (all glass) you won't be able to find one with diesel, unless the owner changed the engine. Only commercial ones were sold with the diesel. Also all but one private one that I have ever seen are auto. The one that wasn't (seen recently on Mudah, about 18k) is probably converted. Will also try that when the gearbox dies (reconditioned auto one will cost around 6k according to my SC, but perhaps the owner didn't do a good job of sourcing).

Since there is a SC near you that should be fine. Feel free to pay them a visit and ask them how much things such as timing chain will cost you, workmanship and part.
If you are interested in getting spare parts from Singapore (it can make sense, even when you are from KL): http://www.sgcarmart.com/directory/listing.php?COM=Renault There you'll find a few parts dealers that should have anything in stock (when ordering through the SC not only will parts be twice as expensive, you may also have to wait a month for them unless they have stock (crucial parts like brakes they seem to have, less common ones like waterpump for windscreen wipers probably not).

In any case IMHO the servicing and workmanship costs are on the lower end of the spectrum. Parts if from SG are affordable to me, local is a bit expensive perhaps, but probably also not much worse than other brands.

Do not expect the power of a modern TDI/TDCI engine with few hundred hp. It won't be bad, but it ain't a rocket. To be honest the petrol is also not too bad, it's enough for everyday traffic. FC when heavy footed (I usually rev to 4000-5000 when accelerating) and mostly town use is around 10-11l/100 km, be more gentle and it will be better. I can understand that you prefer the diesel though, I'd rather have that one and the manual gearbox too.

The leather interior looks pretty good and comfortable, you might want to look out for that. And if you tend to have passengers behind you, especially in the 3rd row, do yourself a favour and find one with the 2nd row blower. They are a bit hard to find, but trust me, it's worth it. The 3rd row is a sauna otherwise.

Do test drive it. So far every passenger and everyone I let behind the wheel liked it, even when they drive much more expensive cars themselves.

Renault passengers only slightly injured, the Merc driver had a whiplash. The Merc looks quite badly damaged compared to the Kangoo (which... drove over the Merc?! Just look at the pics!).
