Hi guys!
I have a few questions I wanna ask before I buy a laptop (buying next week, possibly) but I don't want to ask the sales people cause sometimes they aren't that trustable! I met trustworthy people as well though~biggrin.gif
So I want to ask whether this model: Z485, A8-4500M + AMD HD7450M@RM1599, 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8 will be good for everyday usage. (mostly movies, music, downloading stuff, light gaming *UT2004:D* and mostly MS office! I read that AMD A8 compared to some of the i3 processors, gaming is much better BUT Microsoft Office applications work better on intel.
The other 2 models I have my eye on are: G480, i5-3230M + Intel HD4000@RM1499, 2GB(going to upgrade or add another 2/4gb), 500GB (5400rpm), FreeDOS
G480, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT635M@RM1699, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), FreeDOS

I prefer Win7 and I get it free from my college~ (Can also get Win8 but I love the start button tongue.gif)

Not having nvidia optimus means that the graphics card will drain useless battery, so might go for the intergrated graphics model, since it's cheaper as well~

So I want to ask which of these 3 models you would recommend for:
1) Heavy MS office usage
2) Light gaming (yeah, I don't play much games ;P)
3) Long term use (lets say around 4-6 years atleast...) I feel like computers slow down as you keep on using them... ._.
4) All of the above! biggrin.gif

Thanks in advance!

PS: If you have a better laptop recommendation under 1900 please do say~ smile.gif

I seldom recommend notebooks with AMD APUs since there are just too few people using them and we are not aware of whether there are problems with the models or not.. and there's also the matter of optimization for games.. having 2 GPUs doesn't mean it will always bring about performance gain in games.

Since you have a good budget, you might wanna opt for these instead:
14"
Dell
Inspiron 14-3421, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT625M@RM1649[1.99kg], Ubuntu, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), 6-cell; W8SL@RM1899
Inspiron 14R, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1899[2.29kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8

*The Lenovo G480 (with GT635m) you are looking at is also a good choice
*use remaining money to extend warranty to 3 years

Whether a notebook lasts or not depends on some luck and also user care... but with warranty you can expect at least 3 years usage. But for a budgeted notebook like these, I think its better to not expect too much in terms of lifespan  tongue.gif

Thanks for the fast reply!
So I guess I should go for intel~
I was looking at Dell Inspiron 14 and 14R, I wanted to go with the 14R model you just mentioned but only problem would be W8 ><

And thanks for the advice~ I guess I'll go with the Lenovo G480 (with nvidia graphics) and upgrade the warranty *unless* my budget miraculously increases enough for a 3rd gen i7 >:D !

Another recommendation please >_<

This laptop isn't for me and 1 year warranty would be good enough~

Anylaptop under 2500rm but it needs to be SLIM (my friend didn't specify about the weight so anything slimmer than normal laptops or as slimm as normal ultrabooks should be okay~)

This laptop will be used for for his business and needs a lot of traveling between islands (in Maldives~) and will be heavily using AutoCad!
I'm not really familiar with autocad or it's requirements or anything...

Thanks again in advance!

Its either a bulky notebook suitable for better autocad performance and cooler temps; or a slim ultrabook not so suitable for autocad laugh.gif
Nothing is perfect unfortunately  laugh.gif

I see...

One of the Inspiron 14 model does come with Linux. Do check out Dell's website and see which one comes with Linux; they may have updated the specs (again)  icon_rolleyes.gif

Dell have good laptops for the same price but with lower specs. sad.gif
I found out that Lenovo gives the best specs for my budget biggrin.gif
So might stick with G480 or Z480 (looks better with better graphics)~

Hello guys~

Quick question here... I'm planning to buy a second hand laptop and it has one year warranty (Lenovo) and it's going to be expired in around a month or two. Is it possible for me to go and extend the warranty to another 1 or 2 years?

I don't think its possible for Lenovo notebooks hmm.gif
Its not exactly very worth it as well...
Mind sharing your budget and usage?
Notebooks are getting more affordable nowadays, might be better to just get a new one with much longer warranty coverage  icon_rolleyes.gif

I asked a couple of questions before and I aimed for the Lenovo G480 but then settled down for the Z580 (2299rm, i7 FreeDOS) which was actually over my budget. But all the shops said they don't have the model I was looking for T_T

So I went laptop hunting on the garage sales and found a (supposed to be in good condition since it wasn't used much but already 10-11 months old) Lenovo Y480. Price around 2K plus or minus a couple o hundred. Meeting with the fellow forum.lowyat member next week to check it out and hopefully buy it biggrin.gif

So I just wanted to check if extending warranty was possible... If not possible, I'm willing to take risk and use laptop for a couple of years ><

Just be extra careful when checking the notebook oh...
I doubt people would just sell the notebook because of "lack of use", especially after 10-11 months hmm.gif
Abit suspicious to be honest, and the price is not worth it imho...
I'd just get a new Y500 laugh.gif

Exactly why I have to check before buying. Hahah.
Well, I really need (or want) an i7 (not the ulv stuff ;p) cause I keep open quite more stuff than my dad while he's working, well i can't really explain xD and i'm planning to start gaming again. desktop to slow and have a *netbook* >< So need laptop for uni and gaming biggrin.gif

2K -/+ 300 is my budget, so can't really get a mutimedia/gaming new laptop for that price. |:
