For Asus Vivobook X200 and S200 series

Pros:
Cheap in price, solid build quality, nice in look, light in weight
Touch screen

Cons:
Small screen (11')
Onboard memory, no RAM slot, cant upgrade
temparature is killing, many user claim achieve 70c when watching movie. 80c above on full load.

Well, you pretty much limit yourself to that 1 model that you just listed

ThinkPad Edge E120, i3-2357UM + Intel HD3000@RM1999[1.5kg],W7HP, water resistant keyboard, Colors: Red/Black
You may find E130 which is more or less the same. So you could find this model selling close to your budget
This is 2nd gen i3 Mobile processor, which is still more powerful than the 3rd gen i3 ULV processor in the Vivobook. HD3000 is weaker than HD4000 but sufficient for your wife usage. No touch screen.
The main advantage: It's a Thinkpad Even though it is the Edge series, still quite solidly built. Matte screen, nice keyboard, all the ports you ever need, ...

The real culprit is hidden inside the chassis: during our stress test with Prime95 and FurMark, the Core i3 exceeds temperatures of 80 degrees Celsius (176 degrees Fahrenheit) within a few seconds - and throttling starts at this point. After one hour we recorded temperatures of almost 100 degrees Celsius (212 degrees Fahrenheit) - even though the processor and GPU are running at the very low clock speeds of 800 and 300 MHz, respectively. Our second review model with the Pentium 987 didn't fare any better, which leads us to the conclusion that the cooling system is simply not up to the task.

the vivobook i3-3217u + HD4000 only score 1605 in 3Dmark06, the temperature is throttling the performance.  this spec should score 4000p
