Guys, please recommend me a good ultrabook here. thanks notworthy.gif

1. Preferred Brand: Any brands, but i want good after sale service, and also the best cooling system available. The current laptop that i use keep overheat like 90-100 degree one.
2. Budget: below rm4000
3. Usage: I wanna bring it around, so it have to be portable. Not gonna play games on it so graphic is not a problem. But sometimes i would like to connect it to HDTV and watch 1080p movies.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: Nothing smaller than 13". I need bigger screens for convenience.

thank you very very much!

May I know comparing

XPS 14, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT630M + 32GB mSATA+ 500GB(5400rpm) HDD + (1600x900)@RM3749[2.1kg], 4GB, backlit, spill resistant keyboard, W8

and

Envy [Ultrabook] (Spectre) 14-3111TU, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + (1600x900 Radiance) + 128GB SSD@RM3999[1.8kg], 4GB

which one would u recommend?
Cuz currently I'm using a HP laptop, yes i clean up the heat sink frequently but still it always overheat.
Read online and it says that HP are poor in the cooling system..

So i think dell xps 14 is a better choice?

Mind telling us which old HP model that you have now?
Have you tried re-applying thermal paste?

Between the 2:
XPS14 - has a more powerful GPU, come in handy when you do something more graphically intensive. Spill resistant keyboard is good. I also find the keyboard in this has good feedback. Dell has better warranty support.
Envy Spectre 14 - ligther. The Radiance screen is nice (viewing angle, colour ... ). Full SSD, so responsiveness is better than the XPS 14 spec.

Ultrabook, due to the thinness, actually has even less space to dissipate heat compare to normal laptop.
But generally, don't hear too many complaint regarding these 2 models in terms of heat.
I strongly suggest you go out and look and feel these 2 models. Some people simply fall in love with the Spectre 14 smile.gif

using HP G42 series. Havent try to change the thermal paste yet. It's only exactly 2 years old.
I reformat it back into factory settings, put it on idle, the temperature is about 40++ degree celcius. How is that even possible right?

XPS14 seems good with the 630M. Do u think it will overheat if i play only FIFA 13 on it?

If the cooling system is okay i might get XPS14 + upgrade the SSD if possible.

spectre looks like apple's macbook. design not innovative enough yawn.gif

Yup, your HP G42 sounds awfully "hot" sweat.gif
Since you mentioned you have clean up the heat sink frequently, then the only possible hardware problem is the thermal paste or the fan itself (did you hear the fan rev up? I don't have access to G42, you may want to go into BIOS and see if there is any setting to set the fan at always max. Or you may want to try speedfan and see if it is able to control the laptop fan).

FIFA 13 is not too GPU demanding, won't be taxing the GT630M too much smile.gif

Going for full SSD actually will help the laptop thermal profile as well (HDD is one of the major heat source).

Generally for ultrabook, I still think it's better to get a cooling pad (or some other ingenious solution) if you plan to game on it tongue.gif

my G42 fan 99% of the time always rev up and make alot noise. even no program is on.
virus? nope. reset to factory settings after few hours then also liddat.

absolutely i'll buy a cooling pad for my future ultrabook.

Do u think it's a great time to get the XPS 14 now, or shall i wait until it comes out with a new variant/model?

How long can you wait? smile.gif
When Intel push out the Haswell this year, they will mandate all ultrabook must have touchscreen (at least that's what is being announced).
If you follow CES 2013, apparently there is a prototype of XPS 14 that has a flippable screen (just like the one in XPS 12) sweat.gif
But Haswell is most probably late (Q3) 2013.

Since you like to clean your laptop, the good thing about XPS 14 is that once you open the back panel, you have full access to all the components, very easy to maintain.
If you want to go SSD aftermarket, the SSD must be thin (< 7mm) to fit in. So a lot of popular SSD brands / models are out. Have seen some videos where users strip the SSD of external case to fit in ultrabook sweat.gif

I need one by July.
So do u think i shall wait maybe other company came out something this price range and better than xps 14? hehe
