It should be able to handle your requirements, but on the safe side, try to "test-drive" on display models, just to be sure icon_rolleyes.gif

Hey guys, need a recommendation.

Preferred brand- None, any brand works.

Budget- Below 1.5k, a bit higher is OK.

Usage- Gaming and web browsing.

Preferred screen size- Not a problem, the smaller the better
*
QUOTE(Cranky guy @ Jan 13 2013, 05:17 PM)
Edited accordingly, recommendations?

This one is the cheapest, and most decently-speced notebook capable of gaming for that price range thumbup.gif
14"
Lenovo G480, i3-3110M + Nvidia GT635M@RM1499, 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), FreeDOS

But do take note that it doesn't come with an OS nod.gif

Looking for a laptop.
Budget: Less than RM2.5K
Prefer: Dell
Best if have a SSD as main drive.
Mainly for college usage like assignment and etc.

You won't be able to get a Full SSD at that budget range, but you can get something with an mSATA laugh.gif

dell inspiron 14r se i5 vs lenovo z480.....which is better for overall? as i hate about dell..the warranty to short....where can i buy blank laptop? without os as i got 10 free windows 8 pro.from microsoft..so i can save few hundreds
*
The Dell is better in a sense that it has a faster HDD. CPU and GPU-wise, both perform similarly...
As for warranty, no doubt Dell is better. The Z480 is slightly more expensive. The money you save from buying Dell can be used to extend warranty to 3 years (~@RM250) nod.gif
But I don't think you can get FreeDOS models though... we only have a handful of those, and most are very budgeted units hmm.gif

But a bit skeptical on the mSATA SSD.
Will it improve that boot speed and shutdown speed?  hmm.gif

I might go for the i3 version, since not gonna really game on it. I have a desktop for that.  laugh.gif
*
mSATA SSD will help in terms of overall speed, including boot and shutdown... but the speed increment will not be comparable to that of Full SSDs
You need at least RM3.2k to get a notebook with a stock, Full SSD from Dell sad.gif
Unless if you don't mind upgrading to SSD yourself tongue.gif

If from Dell. RM3.2K
How about others? I might look at other vendors.

I don't mind upgrading the HDD to SSD myself.
It just depend on the warranty from dell.  hmm.gif
*
Well then, can consider this one:
14"
Dell Inspiron 14R, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1899[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HP/W8

Use remaining money to extend warranty to 3 years, and perhaps a 140GB SSD

Hi guys, I will be studying Computer Engineering for the next few years and I'm not sure whether to get an ultrabook or a laptop.
Any recommendations?

Preferred brand: Asus
Budget: Below RM 4k
Screen Size: 14''

Thank you.
*
You'll probably need a higher spec notebook for Computer Engineering hmm.gif
But there are not much options for Asus at 14", perhaps you might want to consider 15.6" notebooks instead.
For 14":
Asus A45VS-VX028H, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT640M@RM2899[2.4kg], 4GB, 750GB, W8

I see, then can I also have your recommendations for 15.6'' laptops?
Thanks!
*
Yeah, can consider this one:
15.6"
Asus N56VZ-S4284H, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M + (1920x1080) + Bluray@RM3699[2.7kg][B&O], 4GB, 1TB, W8; color: black

It packs quite a punch, and doesn't weight as heavy as a G55 (not recommended here since you are probably looking for something more portable). Comes with quad core i7 for insane multitasking, and a FullHD screen for larger workspace~
You can use the remianing money for extra accessories, and perhaps upgrade the RAM to 8GB icon_rolleyes.gif

later sekejap sudah rosak wahahaha... the price really yummy.. end of nov 2011 js bought asus A43S for rm21xx...this only add rm300~~
*
Hmm, hard to say laugh.gif
Whether it lasts or not depends on a little bit of luck, and most importantly how you take care fo the notebook brows.gif
To me, an additional feature means an additional potentially faulty component tongue.gif
and Asus Malaysia's warranty support is not exactly very good though..

Y580 is your best best man laugh.gif
Try looking for it, don't settle down for something poorer in terms of gaming performance, sure will regret...

and plan for save budget to buy 1 128GB SSD... make it more faster~ XD

Well, you don't really need a lot of power for your needs, perhaps this one? (Assuming you want something with an OS)
14"
Dell Inspiron 14, i3-3110M + Intel HD4000@RM1399[2.1kg], 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8

You will still have money to extend warranty to 3 years and also upgrade to SSD tongue.gif

why does many people said if have more money....go extend dell warranty (dell inspiron 14r se i5 win8) and dont buy the lenovo z480...why?

as i think the different is dell 750gb 5400rpm, lenovo 1tb 5400rpm...can tell me the difference and why? sorry because ask too many question
*
We mostly recommend Dell because of its superb on-site warranty support, which is unmatched by all the other brands which require you to bring your own notebook to the service center should anything fail nod.gif
It all depends on what you are looking for.

The Inspiron 14R SE comes with a 750GB(7200rpm) HDD whereas the Lenovo comes with a 1TB(5400rpm) HDD. Although the Lenovo has a larger harddisk space, the Dell has the faster rotating HDD, which means your overall computing experience will be faster nod.gif
Some more you can always get an external HDD (up to 3TB now) if you feel 750GB is not enough for you tongue.gif

didnt dell inspiron 14r se i5 windows 8 has 750gb 5400rpm? can u give me link for this model spec? not from dell website...i want that 750gb 7200rpm windows 8...
and do you know any seller here that sell this?
and what is this model code?
*
The Inspiron 14R SE comes with a 500GB(7200rpm) HDD: http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellstore/con...s=dhs&cs=mydhs1

Like what nexus and I have said, HDD speed is more important than capacity. If you need more space, just get an external HDD.
As to where to buy, just get from Dell online (remember to bargain) nod.gif

My boss ask me to reccommend a laptop for graphic designer's use. Need recommendation:

1. Preferred Brand: No
2. Budget: 3k
3. Usage: Adobe after effects/ Photoshop
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 15" or above
5. Hardisk: prefer 1TB

Is it better to have i7 with mid-end graphic card or i5 with killer graphic card?
Is it necessary to install 16GB RAM?

Thanks.
*
For Photoshop, RAM > CPU > GPU in terms of performance gain nod.gif
Try to look for the Lenovo Y580 (its getting rarer now, but if you can get one then it'll be great):
15.6"
Lenovo Ideapad Y580, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M + 1920x1080 @RM2999[JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HB/W8, backlit keyboard, 2 yrs warranty (Stock limited)
*upgrade RAM to 8GB

Otherwise, go for these:
15.6"
Dell
Inspiron 15R, i7-3517U + AMD HD8730M + (1920x1980; anti-glare)@RM3199[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W8SL
Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + AMD HD7730M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) + 32GB SSD + 1TB HDD(5400rpm)@RM3199, 8GB,backlit keyboard optional, W7HP/W8

Price are in RRP, negotiable icon_rolleyes.gif
