Let's not beat around the bush. The Galaxy Nexus is definitely the best Android phone available today -- it's possibly even the best phone available today, period. Sure, it's not perfect -- we're disappointed that the camera doesn't deliver the same wow factor as the rest of the handset. It's an alright shooter, but it's just no match for the state-of-the-art. There's also room for improvement in terms of build and materials quality. Still, there's no denying the satisfying look and feel, the stunning display, the impressive performance, the excellent battery life -- the whole is far greater than the sum of its parts. The Galaxy Nexus is the best Android phone ever made. It's one of the best smartphones ever made, and with a couple of minor tweaks (particularly to the camera), it could be the best smartphone ever produced.
Still, there's really not much to knock here. The hardware is elegant and smartly designed. The software is beautiful and useful. Google has cleaned up a lot of the bad, and replaced it with a serious amount of good. It's faster, smarter, and a lot more friendly than any of its predecessors. Ice Cream Sandwich easily gives iOS and Windows Phone a run for their money, and in many ways, it's a superior operating system than either of them. If there's a bone to pick, perhaps it's with the size, which could be off-putting to some, or the fact that right now the only carrier you can definitely get the phone on in the US will be Verizon. But those are minor blips on the radar, not show stoppers.
Since day one, I've been waiting for an Android device that lived up to the promise of such a powerful OS. I think I can stop waiting now. Full review here.

The Galaxy Nexus is so important again because it's the only time Google gets to dictate everything - the hardware, the software, and update timing. There's also the element of freedom, with unlockable hardware out of the box. I find myself wishing that Google had begun its adventure sticking it to the carriers with pentaband WCDMA support like this phone finally has, as that would've been much more successful than the practice of releasing a few different Nexus variants with different bands.
As far as Ice Cream Sandwich is concerned, it really is Android perfected. Everything is smoother, faster and nearly all of our issues with the OS have been addressed. ICS brings Android into 2012 and gives Google a great platform to begin to introduce new features going forward. Android is now very close to UI performance parity with iOS, which eliminates a major tradeoff you had to make in the past. If you were hoping for ICS to be iOS with a Google logo on it, you'll be sorely disappointed. However if you're a fan of Android and just wished it were smoother and more polished, Ice Cream Sandwich is what you've been waiting for. Full review here.

Make no mistake, this is the best Android phone around today. It’s impossible to divorce Samsung’s hardware from the Ice Cream Sandwich experience, for the moment at least. That may change as more manufactures offer Android 4.0 phones, but for now it’s tough to think of going back to a Gingerbread or earlier device. ICS’ finessed software works beautifully with Samsung’s hardware and – with the exception of the camera, perhaps, which can be a minor blot on the Galaxy Nexus’ score sheet – the sum of the two parts is massively compelling. While there were some hardware complaints, and even though Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich isn’t the most intuitive or user friendly operating system, it’s absolutely one of the most powerful. Android 4.0 is coupled with the best smartphone Samsung has ever produced and easily leapfrogs any other competitor’s device.
Unfortunately in the Android world, this hardly lasts a long time, and as we have started to see in various leaks, there’s going to be some serious competition for the best Android smartphone in the world over the next few months. For now, though, this marriage of hardware and software, under Google and Samsung’s direction, is an absolute winner. Full review here.

Personally, I’ve already been taken in by the Galaxy Nexus’s charms, and have been thoroughly spoiled in the process. It’s the most impressive smartphone I’ve ever used, and after just a few days, older versions of Android already feel ... well, old. Many other phones will get a taste of Android 4.0 in early 2012, but make no mistake, the Galaxy Nexus is the device that ICS was meant to be used on. The sheer speed of the hardware and software, combined with the slickness and beauty of the new stock Android UI makes the device a joy to use. Full review here.

The Galaxy Nexus is the best Android device ever because it’s the best all-round Android phone. Not only is the design almost flawless but the screen is sharp, the camera capable and the software a huge leap forward. Considering it will have a software lead of at least three to four months on any new device being released with ICS, for many people it is reason enough to upgrade. Ice Cream Sandwich is the biggest leap in smartphone operating systems since perhaps iOS 2 to iOS 3 (or maybe iOS 4 to iOS 5, we can’t decide) but it fundamentally alters the way Android users interact with their phones. Beyond those gimmicks that don’t work as well in the real world as they do on television commercials, Ice Cream Sandwich’s main claim to fame is that it’s a more-polished version of Android — it’s easier to use and more aesthetically pleasing than any of its predecessors. Bravo, Google — I’m looking forward to further refinements of Android, and if this leap forward is any indication, the world’s most popular smartphone operating system has even brighter days ahead.
Couple that with this gorgeous and subtly curved handset, and you have yourself a winner. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is by far the best Android phone I’ve seen yet. Full review here.

In a nutshell, the Galaxy Nexus is the best phone I've ever touched before. This is easy to say for a couple of reasons. Up until the Galaxy Nexus, my hands-down favorite phone was the Galaxy S II (specifically the Sprint and international versions) and the Galaxy Nexus is rather similar when it comes to in-hand feel and build quality. That said, the Galaxy Nexus goes above and beyond with a modern and sexy design that makes you feel like you're holding the future in your hand. Full review here.

Based on the above definitions you wouldn’t think that Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus (SGN) is actually a culmination of anything good, particularly in the way of an Android phone. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the most exciting Android device I’ve had an opportunity to review. Not only does it feature an exceptional design by Samsung and an impressive list of specs, but it’s also the first device to utilize the newest version of Google’s mobile OS, Android 4.0.
It is, without a doubt, the best Android smartphone of the year.

If you're contemplating on buying AP set, jpaq has some advice for you to consider.
QUOTE(jpaq @ Mar 14 2012, 04:38 PM)
It's all a matter of luck, bro. Many people who have bought an AP unit has had no problems whatsoever. However, there are some who have experienced faulty units before as well. To be clear, I myself rather not buy an AP unit.
But do ask the seller about his one-to-one exchange policy. If he says if there is any problem within 7 days, and a one-to-one exchange is allowed within that period, then it is pretty fair for an AP unit. But then, ask him further, if the 2nd unit is also found to be faulty, then what would be his policy. Then consider what he tells you. If you find it acceptable, go ahead and buy it and have fun. Oh, and do get the name of the guy who attends to you, for future reference.
However, do be meticulous with your checking of the unit. When at the shop, check as many things on the phone as you can, at the bare minimum, check for any scratches, dents, cracks and chips. Check for any colour peeling or dis-colouration of every physical part of the phone that you can see, including the logos. Also check the battery cover for any breakage in the clips. Another phone shop seller once told me that he got in a unit from his supplier where one or more of the battery cover clip(s) was/were broken.
Do switch the phone on and inspect with your naked eye for any abnormality in the display. Also see whether the display responds ok with your touches. Then slip in your SIM card and make a few calls. Check for any abnormality in the sound coming out from the earpiece. I have had an earpiece problem before. Not common, but it happened to me. Then ask whomever you are calling whether you sound clear to them or not. Then ask that person to call you back to check again.
After all that, when you get home, do play the heck out of your phone. Go google for apps which let your check for any defects in the display, like dead pixels, etc. Plug in a set of earphones (your fav or the in-box ones) and test. Play some songs through the earphones as well as through the speaker. Listen for any crackling sounds or other abnormality. Make calls, send SMSes, emails, etc. Plug it into your computer to see whether everything is working as it should be. Use the phone fully and even stress the phone if you can (but I don't mean physically!!!).
If everything works out ok, great! If not, go back immediately to the seller. Be firm (but not rude) with the seller when conveying to him your problem(s). If he had promised a one-to-one exchange earlier and you are within the time given, insist on that. I have to add that many sellers would rather not have to do a one-to-one exchange if they can help it. It means that they would have one less phone to sell. But insist on it if he has given you his word. And if he tells you that there is currently no stock to exchange for you at the moment, insist that a new unit should be given to you no longer than in 2 weeks time. Otherwise, ask for your hard earned money back and get the phone from somewhere else.
Honestly, I have not dealt with this directd ever before. From the forums, some say he is ok but could be perceived as a little stuck up. Ignore all this when your are dealing with him. Just be professional and expect professionalism from him as well. Keep it strictly business.
All the best.

5MP S5K4E1G is the camera sensor that is used in the Galaxy Nexus
QUOTE
The S5K4E1G is a highly integrated QSXGA camera chip which includes CMOS image sensor (CIS) and CCP2- compliant image data interface. It is fabricated by SAMSUNG 90nm CMOS image sensor process developed for imaging application to realize high-efficiency and low-power photo sensor. The sensor consists of 2608 x 1960 effective pixels which meet with 1/4 inch optical format. The CIS has on-chip 12-bit ADC arrays to digitize the pixel output and also on-chip Correlated Double Sampling (CDS) to reduce Fixed Pattern Noise (FPN) drastically. The image data interface performs data formatting, image compression, Image scaling and serial transmission using Sub-LVDS. The host controller is able to access and control this device via CCI bus. The S5K4E1G is suitable for low power camera module with 2.8V/1.8V power supply.
QUOTE
I get the feeling I could repeat this a hundred times and people wouldn't listen, but here goes:
The number of megapixels on your camera phone does not matter.
Please, read that again. And again.
The limiting factor in your camera phone is the physical size of the sensor and the lens. You aren't going to resolve much good detail past 5 megapixels, AND you will start contributing heavily to noise by shrinking the photosites.
The new iPhone 4S camera is great, but it is not great because it is 8 megapixels. It is great because it's a high quality sensor and a nice lens. It is great in spite of it being 8 megapixels.
I have printed poster-size with a Nikon D2h. That was a 4 megapixels camera. Those were 4 very high quality megapixels with the right glass on the camera. Having more, lower quality pixels is not the right way to approach cameras. From binary vision at Android Forums
alternatively, if you seek to get better photo with the Galaxy Nexus, you could consider getting extended lens option from Photojojo

Insufficient storage space?

Why does this phone not include a Micro SD slot?
QUOTE
There are many reasons floating around, but the reason I’ve seen by at least a few Googlers is that if an app utilizes an SD card’s storage in some way (say, storing a user’s data) and then the user removes the card, that app has to be programmed to handle the card’s disappearance. It’s easier for developers to code apps that keep everything in the internal storage (e.g. the app’s folder in /data/data) than have to handle the presence/absence of external media.
Without an SD card, how can I flash ROMs, back up my data between wipes, etc?
QUOTE
The internal media storage space (for example, the ~13GB left over in the UK model) IS subject to being wiped when user data is wiped (since it is mounted as /data/media). However, custom recoveries have been made for other devices that skip wiping this directory, so once CWM or another recovery for the GN comes out with that feature, you won't need to back-up your media folder before wiping.

Its a SGX540, the same one in the Nexus S, but significantly higher clocked, running at 384mhz.
QUOTE
Iit's only the GPU that isn't as fast (the CPU is as fast as anything on the market right now, and faster than the iPhone). This will be the third fastest GPU on the market, behind the PowerVR SGX543 of the iPhone, and the Mali-400 of the Samsung Galaxy S2. For most tasks, of course, there will be tons of horsepower available for things like hardware acceleration of the OS, basic processing tasks, etc. These are not generally a challenge to most GPUs. The real question is, how will it handle games or apps like Google Earth or other 3D-intensive apps?
Think about this: when game developers release a game for the PC, do they optimize it so that it will only run on the brand new, top-of-the-line, $600 graphics card? Of course not. They wouldn't sell many copies, would they? Expect the same here. The PowerVR SGX540 of the Nexus is a potent GPU, one of the fastest on the market. Not being the fastest shouldn't be a concern. From Android Forums
Also, if you didn't notice already, games that are actually fun don't rely on polygon counts to sell the game, ie. cut the rope, plant vs zombie, coin drop, etc etc. If the iPhone 4 with SGX535, a lower end GPU than Nexus S, can have great game titles, I don't see how the G Nexus can't.
Food for thought, if the G Nexus can already play 95% of the games in the market (the other 5% being Tegra3 exclusives ), what significance does it make that the GPU scored lower in benchmarks?

Only had a brief listen on mine using some Yuin PK2s that I have.
I've come from an Xperia Arc, and before that I did have a SGS2 for a while.
I've not had enough time to make a definitive view but at this stage, the Nexus sounds more open than the Arc (which had a warm veil to the sound imo) and seems to be able to drive the Yuin's much better than the SGS2 - my ears will give up before I reach max volume this time around.
To my ears, at this stage, it offers a pretty well balanced sound - plenty of detail resolved without sounding overly harsh on the tracks I have tried. The mids certainly sound better than the previous 2 phones mentioned from my recollection.
Not had a play with any equaliser settings yet as I prefer listening without tweaking these in any way if possible.

1. Don't worry it blows the GS2 out the water. Highs are high, lows are low. Tested with .flac on same settings via power amp.

4. Gone are the days of the Bluetooth audio crackle via A2DP. It has very good quality via A2DP even compared to GS2 CM7.

Google+ application settings on an Android phone will automatically upload new photos and videos to a Google+ album. There's no need to panic, though, as the photos and the album itself will remain private until you sign into Google+ and specify which images you want to share with select circles
To disable automatic upload from the Google+ Android app, select "Settings" within the "Menu" screen and uncheck "Instant Upload." Now you have control of which mobile photos make it to your private Google+ album.
The Instant Upload settings allows for further customization, including uploading all existing photos on your phone, uploading only when connected to a WiFi network (good for those with capped data plans), and uploading only when the phone is charging.
If you've ever had or used Picasa, there is a chance you've got an album there that Google is picking up and syncing.
Click on the "My Photos" tab, click on the offending album, click on the "actions" tab, and choose "delete album".
To delete the synced photos from Gallery
Go to Settings > Apps > All > Google +

Now when you go back to the gallery the instant upload and any photos linked in Picasa will be gone.
You should also disable the syncing before doing this if you don't want them to come back again.

Multitasking?

QUOTE(mark @ Mar 14 2012, 08:52 PM)
There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding running apps, multitasking, background tasks and such.
When you launch an Android app, the task is active/running. You use the app, play with the app, etc.
When you exit back to the home screen (or go to a different app), the app is stopped. This means that the app is frozen and will not run/take up battery/etc. It also means the Android OS can freely kill that task if the Android OS needs more memory for other things (i.e. you opened up a really heavy game, you haven't gone back to that app in a while, etc).
So how does multitasking work? How does your app check for email in the background? This is done by something called services. Services run in the background, you don't really see it anywhere on your screen. Even when you quit your app, it still has a service running in the background. It checks your mail even if you're not in the app, it checks for new messages when you're not in the app. If you're busy downloading something using your browser, and you go to a different app, your download still continues, because the browser is running it's own download service in the background.
An example to this would be WhatsApp. If you don't open the app, how does it check for new messages for you? It runs the WhatsApp background service to check for messages for you. You don't have to open the app to keep checking for new messages, it already runs by itself in the background. The Android OS takes care of what services to run, kill, etc automatically for you. That's why if you use a manual task killer (you shouldn't, btw), after a few minutes you'll notice the WhatsApp service running again.
This, of course, does not apply to ALL apps. It depends on whether the app developer has made such a feature available or not. Let's take Draw Something as another example. It doesn't have a background service, therefore it doesn't notify you if you have new drawings to guess.
tl;dr, to answer your question, you don't have to open viber/yahoo/gmail/gtalk to get notifications. The notification part of these apps are running in the background and are checking for new messages for you.
Also, regarding the ICS tasks button, all the tasks listed there are "frozen" apps... the apps themselves aren't running and aren't taking any CPU resources.
For better understanding, you can also read up on the Android Activity Lifecycle, but it's more technical and more for programmers: Android Activity Lifecycle

QUOTE
The primary goal of Face Unlock is to provide a measure of security if you accidentally leave your phone on, say, a bus or train. After all, its a 1.2Ghz dual core CPU running underneath, the heat has to dissipates somehow. Just make sure that its not something crazy like above 55C, anything below 50 should be fine. It is advisable to avoid using the phone when charging.
You can install battery monitoring app to monitor the temperature if you are worried about it.

Rubin is explaining what makes a “Nexus” phone, as opposed to any old Android phone. Basically, Google gets deeply involved in the design, working with the hardware maker and the chipmakers. Rubin notes there are over a million lines of code in Android.
“So much work goes into producing the UI and the changes that you make, and then typically what happens is that the OEM’s put their skins on it and put their own touch. Does it bother you that so much work goes into it and in the end, a lot of consumers don’t interact with the UI as you intended it?”
Well, it would bother me more if we didn’t have programs like the Nexus program. The idea behind the Nexus device is to do exactly that – to give consumers an option to use the baseline work that we do if they choose…the philosophy of Android, the idea that partners can customize Android if they want to, is really important to making Android successful. By Matias Duarte, User Experience Designer of Android
QUOTE
There are Android phones (Nexus). And there are Sense phones (HTC). And there are Philblur Motorola phones. And there are TouchWiz phones. And so on and so forth.
With the Nexus line, Google has its flagships, its models of how its operating system should work. The broader world of Android is more like MS-DOS—the original "weak OS." Every version of the software is retailored and rebranded by its manufacturer. Even some software has to be rewritten to conform to different machines and their varied specs. But what you get is accelerated development of hardware and broad interoperability between machines, which benefits both users and developers.
Why does this distinction matter?
If you're an Android user, you may simply have to accept that you didn't buy an Android device running Google software; you bought a device from Samsung, Motorola or Amazon running Samsung, Motorola or Amazon software. Unless you have a Nexus, Google's more or less invisible on your device. Finally, you're never going to be able to just pull a brand-new software update out of the cloud and stick it on your machine. Not unless you're up for a little hacking. From Arstechnica
QUOTE
There is on one specific reason why I want the Galaxy Nexus so bad. It's everything brought together in a single device, all of the gripes and disappointment in other, non-Nexus handsets that I've had over the past two years and the thought of using Android specifically how Google envisions it. Not everyone will agree, not will everyone understand. But we all have our reasons for the preferences we have, and a run-of-the-mill Android phone just doesn't cut it for me anymore. From PhoneDog
QUOTE
But that is the philosophy of Android, a philosophy that had eluded me until now. To Google, Android is an operating system. To companies like HTC, Samsung, and Motorola, Android is the building-blocks with which they will build their own unique devices.
Google makes Android phones. Apple makes iOS phones. HTC makes Sense phones. Samsung makes TouchWiz phones. Motorola makes MotoBlur phones.
For those of you who don't know, Nexus is essentially Google's iPhone. They have full control over the hardware and software, come out with a new Nexus every year or so, and update all recent-ish Nexus phones with the latest version of Android as soon as possible. By LifeHacker

Root
What is?

QUOTE
In this post, I’ll be talking about the rooting process of an Android device as far as my best knowledge allows me to. Regarding ‘root’ itself, please consult the many definitions around the internet. In short, it is a special permission granted to a user to perform low level operations on a system (like backing up your Angry Birds game data, or changing the boot animation). 'Rooting' is the process of obtaining the means to grant this permission.
Think of it like the Matrix: Jailbreaking is comparable to what Morpheus could do. He could bend the rules of the system to overcome certain restrictions, but was still bound to its rules. Rooting is what Neo could do. Not only could he bend the rules, he could completely break them.

What it is, is a full backup of partitions on your device's NAND flash (NAND stands for NOT AND, a type of electronic logic gate -- it's like the hard drive of your Android device) storage. Think of it as a snapshot of the current running system, and it can be used to restore that that point at any time. Both user data and system files are backed up, and it's a far cry from what we think of when talking about a traditional backup from other software.

those who dislike the micro lag when opening app drawer, this is the mod for you. After reading that thread, main cause for this seems to be that the home screen is killed to make space for other apps in memory, so there will be times where the home screen requires redraw. What this mod does is make the home screen the top priority in the memory process, so it doesn't get killed easily or not at all.

If you are having problem in applying wet SP, which is a must if you're looking for something that covers full front of the phone, here are some tips written by droid13579
Before you begin, cut your fingernails and wash your hands. This is to prevent nail damage to the skin and minimum the risk of bringing lint, dust and dirt.
Location to skin application: There are few locations are suitable for application: Steamy Bathroom (is a PLUS since steam is capable to trap dust) Bathroom Kitchen Bedroom Study Room/Guest Room
As long you switch off any air ventilation like fan, air conditioner. Lock your door and windows, your fine to proceed. Clean your area, to minimum the risk of bringing lint and dust.
After cleaning your area, prepare your own solution (if they don't provide you) try look for a shallow dish plate or spray bottle. Put 2 or 3 drops of mild soap and mix it with water, and you now have your own solution.
For mild soap, I suggest using baby shampoo like Johnson baby shampoo or any dish wash liquid.
Once your have your own solution, prepare your own version of squegee card if they don't provide you. Any credit card would be fine but make sure they have straight edges to prevent damage your skin during squegee.
Now you have those two main stuffs, time to bring out your paper towel or microfibre cloth. Personally, I prefer paper towel because it is easily available than microfibre cloth, or anti fog cloth is good to go.
Once you have those stuffs, bring out your skin and read their instructions. Some might give tips for application process.
Time for application, first wash your hands once again and clean them with your paper towel.
Before application, clean your device with your microfibre, anti-fog or paper towel to remove smudges and dust on your screen. TURN OFF YOUR DEVICE, REMOVE YOUR BATTERY, ENGAGE THE ON SWITCH!
For Spray Bottle method: Spray your non-adhesive skin for two pumps, then wet your fingers with your spray. Peel your Skin, immediately and give like 3 ~ 4 pumps on adhesive side.
Now place on your device screen, and align it with your fingers. Your skin should move freely for this time. After you have set your alignment, leave your device like 1~2 minutes.
After 1~2 minutes, prepare your credit card or squegee card. Start push your access liquid and air bubbles from middle to the left or middle to the right while try not to move your skin, DO NOT squegee the skin to hard or it will leave marks, or causing miss align.
Keep squeegee for like 5~8 minutes to remove all bubbles and use your paper towel/microfibre cloth to trap any water/liquid to prevent get into the device. After that, clean and damp the screen with paper towel/micro fibre cloth.
Now your skin should be like clean and zero bubbles, if they do have don't peel or being paranoiac. Look for a windy place and place your device there for 12/24 hours. Those streaks, micro-bubbles will dissipated during these period.
AND NOW YOUR SKIN SHOULD BE LOOK CLEAN AND BRAND NEW!
Shallow Plate "Dip" Method for Wet Screen Protector Application
When I said Shallow Plate to Dip your solution is not to immerse your skin to your solution. This might be tricky but if you do it properly it also gives a good look when it is done.
First, Prepare a shallow dish plate fill with water and add 2~3 drops of baby shampoo/ dish wash liquid mix with your finger and you have your own version of solution. Not to forget prepare your anti fog cloth/ micro fibre, paper towel and squeegee card/credit card.
**You may use warm water as an alternative.**
Now, wash your hands and clean your device to remove all those dirt, dust, lint and grease. Not to forget remove the battery, turn off the device.
Begin to dip the non adhesive side, a shallow dip is enough not immerse the skin. If it is too wet, shake vigorously to remove big water particles. Wet your fingertips by dip into your solution and peel it. Give shallow dip for non adhesive side and shake it.
**If you think shake vigorously still look wet for both sides, try wipe on one direction like butter on toast to remove excess water, liquid.**
Immediately, place your skin to your device and leave it for 1~2 minutes. Now your skin should move freely, and try align it in this time. Remember align it with your fingers gently by recognize it front facing cameras, proximal sensors and ambient sensors and front speakers.
After 1~2 minutes, start squeegee with your credit card from middle to left/right then up to down. Don't squeegee too hard or else you will damage the skin. Do this for 5~8 minutes.
**While Squeegee, try damp the excess solution and not to push the solution to cut outs**
After 5~8 minutes, wipe/damp the excess solution with paper towel/mircofibre/anti fog cloth. Your skin should look free bubbles. If you do saw a streaks, micro-bubbles. Don't be paranoiac and peel it, find a windy place at let it dry for 12/24 hours.
NOW YOUR SKIN SHOULD LOOK CLEAR LIKE IT WAS NO SCREEN PROTECTOR, TIME TO FOOL YOUR FRIENDS AND SAID I HAVE GONE NAKED WITH MY SCREEN

Hello, anyone here know the price of this device when it first being sold here? Just want to compare with current price.
You can't compare with current price because you can hardly get a SME (Ori) set now. Only ipmart selling, at 1450 but it's far higher than before Samsung Malaysia stop taking stock in.
Launch price is 2099 or 2199. Not too sure but confirm around 2.1k

Hi all, sorry for asking a noob question again. In AOKP JB 4.2, there are 2 statusbar toggles, which is 2G and LTE. Which one represent the mobile data ? I turned on both, but the icon at mobile data still shown as off. Anyone can enlighten me ? Thanks !
my guess is 2g toggle will FORCE the phone enter 2g mode (safe power) and when toggled LTE, it will FORCE 3g (since no LTE in our phones) and uses more power if both off means it will be controlled automatically by the rom, as in the *#*#45636#*#* settings.
to toggle internet data, it will be the data toggle.

okay, I going to run ubuntu on the phone but don't want to disturb my current android. gonna extra ubuntu img into phone and using Complete Linux Installer & AndroidVNC to run on top of android. downloading ubuntu now. okay, I know, gonna eat much ram of the phone.

no mobile data toggle??... cant really help cuz im still on 4.1
There is no toggle name 'Mobile Data' or 'Data'. Toggle 'Signal' represent the mobile data, as what mentioned by bugb34r and jacktay94.
QUOTE(bugb34r @ Jan 6 2013, 12:00 AM)
There is actually. Tick Signal.
Yea, didn't realise that. Thanks !

Yup, thanks to you too ! But the signal toggle looks not so good, there is no changes to the toggle icon when you turn on or off the toggle. You wouldn't know whether your mobile data is on or off at the first glance on toggle icon.

My Nexus 7 purchased from UK suffered a screen-crack after I retrieve my bag from a flight check-out; screen display fine but lost the capability to touch and use the tablet.
I understand warranty doesn't cover the physical damage but is there any place I can replace the screen for a reasonable fees?

Hmmm have to use a super sharp razor and make sure that when you cut, it has to be only a single clean motion. Didn't use any rulers or anything hahaha, more on freestyle
i have that problem even since i got the phone until now.... noticeable when typing very fast by typing alphabet one by one......
since now using the stock 4.2.1 swype keyboard don see the problem la
still using the 1st gapps for 4.2, swiping lags full words lags and i cannot swipe words and swipe space and continue swiping.. have to stop and swipe again to continue. typing letter by letter no lag. 1.7 gb left storage. no haptic. vibration set to minimum 1000
Oh. 3-4GB. Any minimum storage should free to avoid this kind of issue?
3-4 GB shoud be good enuf..get Androbench from market, do a micro benchmark and report back your sequential write and random write figures here. Generally if your random write is < 0.2 then u should start worrying..there's a way to solve it if you're rooted though. I did it many many times already

0.24 should still be fine actually..another easy way to detect if its storage causing your lag - try to use your camera, take as many pictures immediately as you can, if you notice a lag (not due to the auto-focus part but rather, like the OS is waiting for something)..then confirm you have that problem..

RRP is always higher than the market price from dealers. Ap price will drop. Then Ori price will follow. After CNY it will probably drop a few hundred. Maybe in 5-6 months time Nexus 4 can hit the Play Store price.

This means that users won’t need to worry about having a device with an old built-in graphics unit anymore since it won’t be doing the dirty work of having to render high-quality video— the cores on the NVIDIA Grid servers will do all the dirty work for you.
any custom rom offer nice animation? such as fly in/out when switching/opening apps. okay, I know MIUI have it, what else? or any flashable MOD available?

That one is controlled by Launcher la
I changed mine with Nova Launcher Prime (non prime can also) but not much to choose from.
Can the MHL cable even take it? Unless the device using USB3.0 port, otherwise the 4K is useless.
That 'Project Shield' console has hdmi out. Not sure about future possibilities.
Most of the new chipset support USB 3.0. Just not sure when are they going to implement it.
Anyway, USB3.0 port is almost like the size of a proprietary port like those on iPad/Galaxy Tab. Not so nice looking and small enough for mobile device. Wonder what can they do?
Pushing 4k resolution requires a huge bandwidth. Let's see where technology leads us to

Yeah, even existing HDMI cables can't really push 4K. Unless you willing to watch it at 22fps.
Seen the demo, output is quite bad, after paying so much for such tech.

not only your friend, just the matter who successfully implement it first.

I also told someone about this idea in this thread just not long ago.
Those servers handle the calculations/rendering, only like streaming the visual over.
But not feasible with turtle speed internet as latency is very important for input devices
Wow... 88". Never really looked at a 4k TV before. Even if I did, didn't really look at the spec and knowing that is a 4k TV
Playback device problem?
Seems like 4k is already supported in Hdmi V1.4 but at 24/25/30 Hz
2.0 only rumour to support 4k at 60p.
Anyway, our video files normally just 24p 60p file too huge, no precious hdd space for it
The source does looked like 4K resolution, cause it doesn't look like Full HD expanded size. But it has bad case of decoding, so you would see artefacts all over.
Anyway, nothing to shout about at that point of time. Just for showing off you have thick wallet only.

Hi all, anyone here can share their battery life with AOKP JB 4.2? I found that it is not that good compare to my previous Slimbean 4.1.2. Is it because of ROM or Android version?

My problems... 1) No navbar mod 2) No lockscreen shortcut mod (the one included is not the one I mentioned ) 3) No LED tweaks yet (light up when the screen in on) 4) Data cannot be turned off when wifi is on. Unless you turn it off before you turn on wifi, from quick settings I mean 5) No built in colour tweaks 6) Can't disable shutter sound 7) Switching 2G->3G->2G/3G is quite slow... The quick setting icon won't even change until it changed to 3G/others. Will wonder whether I actually toggled it 8) To be continued...
Battery life wise...
Paranoid Jan03 + Lean Kernel 5.6 for this morning discharging from 100%, 50mins screen on time now 78% left. around 2 hours with 45mins on wifi, 1hour++ on 3G.
More to be tested... Per app settings not much to play with because most apps don't offer alternate layout. Even for youtube, the 'video wall' thingy also not there after making it into tablet mode. Not sure why...
Am using phablet mode for workspace as its notification is pulled down from left while quick settings from the right. More usable than phone mode.

Technology too fast. Still satisfied with nexus. Just daily usage is more than enough.
Oh i wish the next nexus is by sony with all those sony goodies!
me too. but seem like recent rumors spread about 'X' phone project might potential to be next nexus. Google usually award to weaker player, which is Motorola. hopefully Sony got it.

Sacrificing getting the latest OS for better hardware? Indeed it is a dilemma..
you need better hardware than gnex right now? I will patiently wait until next nexus specs confirm. if not meet the expectation, then only look for non-nexus phone.

Looking at Qualcomm and Nvidia recent announcement, totally no appetite on S4 Pro/Exynos 5 quad

Lately I saw phone with dual core only selling less then RM700
This a good things. In a few years the low spec for phone using dual core chips
what is the current best GPS apps for galaxy nexus? I like papago but I read people said papago does not have full screen on gnex. Have tried sygic but the map is super old..like 2 years old map. What GPS apps you guys using?

Here is a reply in google from somone using sygic: A Google User - October 9, 2012 - Version 12.1.3 Been using for a year now. The routing capabilities is somewhat disappointing because of the map is not updated for my country (Malaysia). POI search is also not so helpful when you need them the most. I have to know exactly where I am going most of the time (you can't rely on the app to suggest you nearby POI cause it won't be accurate). However, love the user interface. Very intuitive and informative. Works really well for my tab 2 and galaxy s3 too.
I personally agree with what this person said. Sygic have nice interface but the lack of updated map and POI make it virtually impossible to use.
WTA, any one try Stylus on GNEX? is it working fine? any recommendation which Stylus is good.
tried walcom stylus for tablets, not working, note 2 stylus also not working, only working stylus is when i dip metal rod in water and use it to draw things
You sure? I never remember anyone beat Nokia in making camera phone. Sony camera phone taken colour is way off compared to Nokia.
Ya that time I saw ppl using sony more then other phone. But nokia is the king that time < it overrated.
I used to have sony cybershot. It much chepo then the expensive nokia. The camera was good, compare to nokia. But in the dark without using flash nokia camera was great...still can take a pic. But sony u can take any lol...it was pitch black even I put night mode.

I got this but rarely use it. Bought it from taobao together with few other items. After dividing postage (based on the amount) around Rm10 for this. Full metal, quite heavy!

Any one tested below 2 types, does it work on GNEX
Actually... All of them should work as long as it's made for Capacitive touch screen.
For the first one, the sharp tip is for resistive panel, only the round tip is for capacitive.
Second one look nice and has quite a fine tip. But I think the price is very fine also
Galaxy Note/Note 2 stylus is not for capacitive. But I'm also not sure how that is made possible. Lazy to read
note/2 is like walcom tablets pen, they got some special megnectic thing so can sense like rightclick, eraser and tap in 1 pen. for our screen, all we need is a metal rod (for hand electro conductivity), with a moist end like an organic or sponge to transmit the electrodes from our body so the screen can detect it.

That was awfully smooth. Much better than the previous demo done by Ubuntu themselves.
So gonna flash Ubuntu... but wait... where's the dialer?
and also want to know, is ubuntu AppStore available? I know, still early time to talk about the eco-system (fair enough to give them more times to gather developer n boast it), but at least there is a market place to reinstall some basic app, like facebook, calendar, etc... as show in demo?

info is thr.....but real life performance and feasibility is a bit unclear atm....until we test it
this will help to expand the life of gnex. since the ubuntu dev using it as prototype surely gnex will be among the first to get a taste of ubuntu mobile at the end of 2013.

It is official that Galaxy Nexus WILL be the first to experience Ubuntu OS, otherwise I wouldn't bother sharing it here
and like you said, maybe some time in the future when we have all upgraded to other phones, Galaxy Nexus can be flashed to a Ubuntu phone for the rest of its life

GNEX really no comparison to NOTE 2, ( The Screen, The S-Pen, the Camera).
Soon i will switch to NOTE 2, already kena poison.
when the note 2 is prehistoric to ur kids, ur nexus still can run and 4ever happily running ubuntu imagine an old crippled pc still runs like normal vista or 7 speed when ubuntu is present
TiBa also can. But the date all change to the date you restore, not the date you receive/send the msg.

I will say is ok la... I standby overnight, then used data and 3G when outside waiting for friend to surf facebook, insta etc. Ok good battery life on 4.2.1

There will be lot's and lot's of new gadgets coming out almost every week . just look at CES . come on.. once we buy a new phone .. it's around rm1500+ , we should commit to our decision. make the full use of our phones by updating it ourselves ( custom roms ) and tweak here tweak there.. cause it's like an investment . unless you can sell your phone and make a profit then different case la . haha
OMG... It's really OCTA!!!! 8 cores in a mobile chipset??? Samsung is crazy!!!!
Its not exactly 8 cores. It uses the big.LITTLE configuration, which iinm has 4 main cores with 4 sub cores to off load smaller task, something like Tegra's 4+1, except this is 4+4.

Yea... I get that but still. It's hell a lot of core there. Maybe some hacks can be done to load up all 8 cores. Imagine the processing power

I see. I just flashed to Slimbean 4.2.1 beta 1, kernel lean 5.5.1 exp 230. I noticed I don't have the option to customize the nav ring and also no option for performance tweak. Do you have the options? And no developer option too.

why flash beta 1 when beta 2 is out?
nav ring and performance tweak beta 2 got , beta 1 i don rmb have or not..
developer option in 4.2.1 is tap 7 time in the build number

I see, then nvm la, will stick to beta 1 first. Monitor the performance for few days first. I flashed beta 1 because I'm a little bit lazy to flash again if beta 2 got 'problem'. Thanks for your info !
EDITED: The performance tweak option is available after I enabled the developer options, that's make sense.

Once you go SAMOLED, you'll never go back.

Phone different as most are sucking in 0.5A - 1A power. If you use that battery pack on N7, you might not be able to power it up if you start charging it from 0%.

The speed (switching in between apps) and GPS lock is good enough reason to buy.
Just had a very good experience with it just now as my friends and I went to a makan place according to Google Maps, which sorta sent me about 200 metres away (in straight path) from the actual location. Parked another 135 metres away. So ended up walking 550m and the place has moved. It's another 550m away from our location.
So throughout the journey, I have been using Maps and Chrome, switching in between and getting GPS lock to confirm our location as we walk. I believe if I were to use GNex, I had to stop and wait for it to load, just in case we missed our destination.

was about to buy Note 2, my Note 2 (before buy iPhone 5) gave brother. But after playing with it, I still prefer the Nexus feeling like my Nexus 7. Well, for Nexus line I have no choice right. The hardware company is choosen by Google themself. So I don't mind using Galaxy Nexus
why don't you use CM10? Heard it is one of the best ROM for Android device.

really depends, for now AOKP for me
best rom? depends on people, some like tablet style(PA), some like clean(ARHD), some like strong backing(CM), some like ponies/unicorns customizability(AOKP), some like it mixed but low(slim)
and since we don't have the hardware, we need to make whats best given, i tweak mine to be on holiday, work daily driver since im back and don't have much free time.
keyboard lag might be seen on gnex due to hardware but if u don't mind turning off ur vibration then itz no big problem. for me, i dun't see significant lag, could be cuz im not bloated with stuff in my phone.
tweaking and all makes it more fun and interesting, like now im using scribbles font which screws all the people who borrows my phone
not to mention, we got gecko os, Ubuntu phone, and many more, esp with the awaited key lime pie, this phone will live long like the nex s and nex 1, or it might out live them
n4 is just recently out so can't say much but durability, plastic wins glass

Another contender for swype/swiftkey?
It's cheap, just go ahead. If you find it inadequate, just get another 1 which has 2A/2.5A output.
Been using Kii Keyboard for more than 2 weeks. It's basically like stock keyboard on steroid x100. I like the long press delay setting (as low as 100ms) and move cursor using volume buttons (only seen this from custom ROM). Load of other settings. But word prediction using multi-swipe, I still find Keymonk performs/predicts better.

Try it and you will know. Leave the keypress vibration on. Try to reduce vibration duration to <= 10ms. I have to use 3ms on N4 due to it's nature of vibrator, which is quite different from GNex's. If you off it, then it goes away.
I have only tried S2 with keypress vibration yet it doesn't lag (back in stock GB ROM). Missed that feel.

So throughout the journey, I have been using Maps and Chrome, switching in between and getting GPS lock to confirm our location as we walk. I believe if I were to use GNex, I had to stop and wait for it to load, just in case we missed our destination.
GPS lock is good due to glonass. I've seen my friend's Note 2 locking inside my condo room within few seconds all due to glonass. Even though it's accuracy is not down to <50m but at least it gives a quick lock to a rough location where you are. Accuracy around 200~300m.
Even outside on the road, once turn on Papago on Note2, upon launching the app, you straight hear 'Satellite search is complete'. Fantastic enough.
My GPS experience with GNex ain't as bad as yours. It keeps up once I let it locked into position. Takes longer time to lock in moving car but is ok to give it like 20seconds+- to lock
Lock in open area 7s enough. Maybe not as fast as those with Glonass but still. Good enough

was about to buy Note 2, my Note 2 (before buy iPhone 5) gave brother.
Paranoid because I like 240dpi look but don't want all the apps in 240dpi. Paranoid let me set how many dpi for each app Maybe not one of the best. But sure is one of a kind!

Good review from you means I should give it a try. Got chinese input!!!!! Most other keyboards don't have Need to stick to swype for chinese

Yeah, even Traditional Chinese using PinYin. Swype's one only Simplified if you use PinYin.
But the later version of Kii Keyboard has a bug on the language switch key (got workaround, if only using 2 languages). But I guess no point bringing it up if you can't get the older version to compare. I left my GNex's Kii Keyboard on older version, while N4's on latest version.

Swype one also can traditional with PinYin. Need to change somewhere. I did it before

I'm using Paranoid Android now with phablet mode. Quite nice but not much of customization yet.
Eugene 91djlah How's the Jan 09 Paranoid? Any new options available? Looking for navbar mod and lockscreen shortcut (the ringggg)
Color and navbar size can be changed Go to PA Settings>Interface
There's no lockscren shortcut ring sadly
Addon: Since you ppl talking about internet..
My TuneTalk is even faster than my Streamyx 1MBps But too bad they only offer 1GB quota/month.. I'm using 50MB/daily..
Was on DiGi prepaid but speed only 384kbps. According to my friends with DiGi smartplan they only get about 700kbps-1.5MBps depending on areas. DiGi 3G coverage in my own home is not that good as well.

as Eugene91 replied. I guess you're looking for navbarmod like AOKP. navbar mod here in PA is different colors for each apps, and able to set the size of navbar. and there is no lockscreen ring shortcut mod, however you can add you fav app shortcut, which is will appear under the clock in smaller icons. Setting > Lock screen > Shortcuts.
this is last ever release before go to version 3. what's coming next might be include: "bootanimation and buttoncontrol, torch, and maybe, if theres still time left, % battery."

I explored every option available in PA I know what you mean. The shortcut thingy not good for me because I use 240dpi. Too small. And it doesn't look nice too. Prefer clean lockscreen.
Previous 4.1.2 PA got Nav ring and lockscreen ring mod??

Your streamyx sounds bad. My hometown one also like that. No choice... There install unifi will be 100% under utilized so stick back to my unipack RM68 per month 1mbps streamyx

There were a few display (variant?) used for GNex. Depending on your luck which batch of screen was used during manufacturing.
My initial screen was just nice, but it has some visible banding on grey tone. So I sent in for warranty claim. Ended up with nicer gradient shades, but it's a tad yellowish (warmer).
The warmer colour now is similar to N4 (at lower brightness setting) actually. But N4 is whiter when the brightness is around 30% onward.
But of course, all these doesn't come close to S3's display.

Yea, my screen looks different from my friend's set, and both our set looks different from the seller's set. In short we have 3 sets of Galaxy Nexus with all 3 different looking color on screen.
The S3 display being better I suspect it has something to do with calibration, I think the Nexus phones aren't properly calibrated at all. The Galaxy Nexus's color actually looks better if you take the time to calibrate it. Though the brightness still fall short compared to S3's. I believe that would be the same case for N4.

Agree... If I am reading, I normally make it black and white inverted or night mode. Means white test black background. Too bright if 100% brightness. Last time use Galaxy W not as bright as this. Maybe is the contrast that makes the white shinesss
Prolong reading then I'll set the brightness to 0% since it's already sufficient just for reading in room lighting condition.
yeah for reading txt in room condition 0% already enough , but when i read from readers with pictures, then i set it to 10-15% for a bit more contrast for the pic ...
2hours 51minutes screen on after 1 day 10 hours of usage, 10% left and is charging now. WiFi on over 1 day 10 hours, 1 hour++ on EDGE.

0% for room condition very dark...if not very hard to see

I personally don't mind the brightness at all, its just that S3 is brighter. In fact I installed the app called screen filter to read at night, otherwise its still too bright for me at the lowest brightness.
"New build is up on goo (give it a few seconds to appear, goo takes a while to refresh), it contains navbar customization, aswell as a couple of things fixed on paprefs (+new icons) / frameworks. Btw, in case some of you missed it out, we finished replicating our repos on github (yay!, open source!), so now is where the real fun begins
Have fun flashing."
