interesting that they chose Gnex instead of N4 for showcasing the Ubuntu OS.

Reading news of many mobile OS being ported to gnex is music to my ears laugh.gif
*
Obviously the project is not developed in a short time, hence why Gnex is used instead of N4.

OMG... It's really OCTA!!!! 8 cores in a mobile chipset??? Samsung is crazy!!!!  drool.gif  drool.gif  drool.gif  drool.gif  drool.gif  drool.gif

Its not exactly 8 cores. It uses the big.LITTLE configuration, which iinm has 4 main cores with 4 sub cores to off load smaller task, something like Tegra's 4+1, except this is 4+4.

Yea... I get that but still. It's hell a lot of core there. Maybe some hacks can be done to load up all 8 cores. Imagine the processing power brows.gif

Don't know what I'm saying doh.gif Sleepy:yawn:
*
lol, that's impossible since the core isn't disabled in the first place, they're just lesser core laugh.gif

There were a few display (variant?) used for GNex. Depending on your luck which batch of screen was used during manufacturing.

My initial screen was just nice, but it has some visible banding on grey tone. So I sent in for warranty claim. Ended up with nicer gradient shades, but it's a tad yellowish (warmer).

The warmer colour now is similar to N4 (at lower brightness setting) actually. But N4 is whiter when the brightness is around 30% onward.

But of course, all these doesn't come close to S3's display.  laugh.gif
*
Yea, my screen looks different from my friend's set, and both our set looks different from the seller's set. laugh.gif
In short we have 3 sets of Galaxy Nexus with all 3 different looking color on screen.

The S3 display being better I suspect it has something to do with calibration, I think the Nexus phones aren't properly calibrated at all. The Galaxy Nexus's color actually looks better if you take the time to calibrate it. Though the brightness still fall short compared to S3's. I believe that would be the same case for N4.

seriously, the brightness on Gnex is not bad adi la ... for one, i can't read with full brightness indoor, too bright till hurt my eyes
*
I personally don't mind the brightness at all, its just that S3 is brighter. laugh.gif
In fact I installed the app called screen filter to read at night, otherwise its still too bright for me at the lowest brightness.

can i delete my google a/c on GNEX and she still keep the purchased app?
*
I don't think so, as the apps are tied to your Google account.

how bout a good second hand one?
*
imo if you can get 1 cheap enough, and don't really mind the 2011 spec, and you really need one now then you should get one. Personally, I wouldn't trade Galaxy Nexus for any non Nexus phone, not the One X, not the S3, Note2, maybe tongue.gif (for the S pen, but not the size).

After reading this, waiting for the N4 might not be worth it, as when it is finally available, a better flagship will probably be just around the corner. I mean even after CNY, you could still be waiting provided what the article said is true.

With that said though, if you can get your hands on the N4, definitely go for the N4, and if you're not in a hurry in any way, just wait for the N4.

May I know after root can use the root kit to lock back right?

And can use the phone update via wireless in the future right?
*
Yup, but why would you do that? laugh.gif

Why I pay more if I can get same experience from it right? the RRP is 1.6k, shop mark up until 1.7k. A good second hand one less than 1k. Quite a big difference. NO I definately won't buy any Samsung phone (except Galaxy Nexus  sweat.gif )
*
Yup, definitely a big difference, but the price could drop over time, possible to hit 1.3k in 3 months time or less. laugh.gif

In fact if you can get a brand new GNex for 1k or less, imo just get it. tongue.gif

Don't know, feel root quite unsafe for phone cry.gif
*
It's only as safe as the owner's knowledge and usage. In other words, if you know what you're doing, you'll be fine.
Most importantly don't install rubbish app to your phone, especially those that aren't popular, check the permission of the app every time if you're skeptical, then you should be safe.

Needless to say, the benefit far outweighs the cons of rooting. I personally find it impossible to use an Android phone without root. HAHA laugh.gif

Is there any 4.2.1 ROM that supports lock screen wallpaper right now? What about Xylon?

But i still want this app to be able to use on nexus...arghhh

Only works if you have an Xbox, and judging by the reviews, the Android app isn't very well done anyway.

there is alphabet sorting for all the apps.

Have you tried using Apex/Nova? They have the option to display app drawer in a list sorted alphabetically too.

Frankly speaking,  Nexus may not be the right choice for u. Half the fun of Nexus begins with rooting .
*
Although I think that rooting is infinitely better than staying unroot, but I think its ok to not root. Some people just don't want to tinker with their phone, and that's fine really. At least with a Nexus you're using stock Android, and you still get the fast updates from Google (assuming its yakju build). smile.gif

BTW, anyone with PA ROM, is there anyway to change the PIE controls buttons? From all the videos I've seen, apparently the buttons are fixed with the PIE controls.
