What I meant by commitment is that no harm for you to prebook, since you're not obliged to buy it eventually. Treat this as insurance as you go hunting for that elusive gold unit.

Best I can do is put you in prebook. Can't really reserve gold for you, hope you'll understand.

I went to the Curve to enquire about my pre-booking status and see if they have stock available. They said need to wait 2-3 weeks. By that time, I'd have received my i5s gold from Apple Store online. If this is so, then I would opt for getting my i5s from Apple store.

Got myself 32GB Space Grey this morning at KLCC Maxis, those online pre-booked from maxis is BS 

Maxis keeps stocks for ppl who pre book. Especially for gold.

The Replacement phone in a small sealed box is called a Seed Unit. I do not think there should be any worries on your side. Why?
First, The IPhone 5 being such a new phone I don't think there is any refurbished unit for the time being. Second, the warranty applies the same date and period as your current phone. Third, I think you should be happy that Maxis replaced the phone even after u taking the phone home for 1 night. So you actually don't have anything to lose.
Yup...same thing with me. I don't think they even keep record of subscribers who ROI'ed or their totally F!#$ed' up their system and therefore is unable to inform anyone. My advice to all waiting for Maxis to call you, I say forget it and just walk in. Don't listen to the CS as they will keep telling you no stock and not to walk in. Some of my friends who never ROI'ed also got their phones by walk in already.

I call in several times today and even have had a live chat to show my frustration. The CS told me that I don't get confirmation email after my ROI at the beginning of OCT is due to no stock. I asked him what kind of stock you are talking about where the phone is not launched. Some more I have to register again to only be eligible in your so called waiting list.

My anticipation is an apology and close follow up where I am updated progressively. I do not need immediate delivery, keep me update and follow through for me. I ask him can this be done.

Summary, the system work out for this launch really failed big time. Vast improvement is required.

Any news if I can just walk in at Maxis Danga bay? Went there on the first day but shot down because don't have pre book. Stupid system.
