QUOTE(SneakyLeaky @ Apr 14 2013, 04:00 PM) hmm, omg i think i just realize something... the poundage of the line and reel does not have to be the same as the 'weight' of the fish? short rod and Avet SX 5.3, this is jigging set already wo, are you sure?its ok to tackle a fish with poundage lesser than the fish's weight? actually it would be great if you could recommend me a set of gears.. hehe i am looking for a short, light weight rod with a lever drag reel. i saw Avet has the Avet SX 5.3 Single Speed Reel. from wad i read it's for smaller rods. reason why i want the lever drag reel is becoz i can preset the drag and not having to struggle with the star drag when i catch a fish. and i also like the outlook of the lever drag reel hehe. |

QUOTE(Shoot@M3 @ Jun 3 2013, 05:35 PM) hi all, would like to ask sifu here The shimano calcutta and shimano cardiff are baitcasters if i'm not mistaken. If they are, definitely not for deep sea fishing. The Tica seaspirit looked more like a multiplier but i don't suggest anything with level wind, which is that "thingy" that arranges the line, especially if you are fighting a big fish, that piece will break. im really new to deep sea but would start to join one soon maybe my budget for rod and rell is rm400 my question is which of these are good for deep sea? tica seasport ss348r/c vs shimano calcutta 201b vs shimano cardiff 100a as for rod, i read should go for Medium or Hard right any other tips? like tools etc? my toolbox now only has small sinker heaviest is around 200g/300g only and what about leader line? must be steel type? really need guidance from sifu here thx the keywords for the reel that you are searching are multiplier reel, 2 speed, level drag, shimano TLD, Penn International, Okuma, Ajiking. (it wouldn't hurt to consider electric reels too, 200m is really too much) leaders you will need both cable and shock leaders, the mainline attaches to the shock leader, attaches to the cable which then ties the hook. even though it's optional for everyone but that's how I do when I expect carnivorous fish with sharp teeth. if you play sinker, a spreader (tanduk in malay) is a must have. |

banax tracker 30L multiplier single speed with level drag only RM200, can consider la. Otherwise secondhands also can get cheap, i got my Okuma Titus II for RM250.
Small fish mostly throw back, but if can be used to bait bigger fish, why not? Big fish depend can eat or not, like the giant trevally, diamond trevally, we usually throw it back. Depends also by the size of the ice box, once full the rest will be released back to the sea. |
