First time BC user??? You knpow the basic rules of brake settings and spool tension right ??

As for lines,.. depending on what area you fish more high possible snag area? top water? Cranking deep lures?
Most of the time when we crank on unfamiliar terrain,.. we spend a lot of lures and time fighting underwater structure that will cost us our lure. Stronger line might stand higher chance to haul up small branches or rubbish.
I wouldnt suggest anything more than 20lbs braided.
If i were you, I prefer to spool 15lbs then use a 20-40lbs leader.
What line to use,.. again,. its all about preferences... I go for Sufix 832, Sufix performance braid, Fireline. Sufix is costly,.. but losing more lures will cost bigger hole in wallet,.. hence I wont save on lines.

Just like Car tyres,.. it save lives,... dont buy cheap ones.

first time BC user ... if decide to use braid, choose thicker braid, easier to manage ... 20lb is good enough

or could opt to try mono first, then switch to braid when you've gotten used to it

Imho, backlash from braid is easier to clear compared to mono.

On another note, anybody interested in new reels? Daiwa shimano megabass. Jdm. Manage to find some good lobang.
