Hello AsusMY, need to purchase any of the following routers to replace the default Unifi router/modem completely. Need to know which or if all has perfect working support for Unifi Internet, Hypptv & Phone..

1. RT-N56U
2. RT-N14UHP
3. RT-N12HP

I ranked them in order of interest with the RT-N56U being the one I'm most interested in. Also, need it for usage in a <1400 sqft condo, 2 walls in between to the last bedroom. Need coverage area there as well. Thanks.

Change your RT-N56U to:
http://www.asus.com/Networking/RTN18U/
Much better choice.

Hmm... Thanks for this suggestion, now definitely looking into it especially since it seems to have been launched this year if I've read correctly so far. Gonna check out performance tests and reviews to see how it stacks up compared to the RT-N56U. Preliminary comparisons shows its much better specs wise. Are u using it? Real world usage?

Hi voncrane,

May I ask, do you have more than 2 phone line? If no then you can consider RT-N14UHP.

The coverage range of RT-N14UHP are slightly better compare to RT-N56U.

If you want dual-band function and better RAM you can considering RT-N56U.

Thank you
*
Thanks for the fast response. There are 2 phone ports in the walls but only 1 Unifi phone line. For the time being not really interested in dual-band function, but don't mind. More into stable firmware, wider coverage, standalone BT downloads & high bitrate (25GB+ files, zero buffering) movie streaming among mobile devices. Has to fully support Unifi hypptv, Internet & phone aka voip). Does the RT-N18U support these better than the RT-N56U or vice versa? Tq

No, I'm using RT-N16 & RT-AC68U.

The only good thing about RT-N56U is that it supports dual band WiFi. 2.4GHz & 5GHz.
But as we all know, 5GHz WiFi coverage is quite weak when compared to 2.4GHz.

Below are a few comparisons between RT-N18U & RT-N56U

Antennas:
RT-N18U - External antennas - Upgradeable.
RT-N56U - Internal antennas - Non-upgradeable.

RAMs:
RT-N18U - 256MB
RT-N56U - 128MB

Flash:
RT-N18U - 128MB
RT-N56U - 8MB

USB Ports:
RT-N18U - 1xUSB 3.0 + 1xUSB 2.0
RT-N56U - 2xUSB 2.0

CPU Speed:
RT-N18U - 800MHz
RT-N56U - 500MHz

2.4GHz MiMo Config:
RT-N18U - 3x3:3
RT-N56U - 2x2:2
*
Yeah, I actually noticed the above while making an initial specs comparison & the RT-N18U wins hands down especially with that USB 3.0 port and RAM shocking.gif. Sadly there isn't much "real" people usage reviews. So I'll keep searching & wait for confirmation that it fully supports Unifi. At one point, I considered the RT-N16 until I met and read the massive solid reviews the RT-N56U has.

RT-N18U is a very new model. Replacing the out of production RT-N16.
So there's no surprise that there's very little review about it.
RT-N16 is no longer in production.
You wouldn't be able to find it in Malaysia nowadays except for 2nd hand units.

It's an old model, but a very solid performer nonetheless.
My 3 & ½ year old RT-N16 is still working perfectly.
*
True abt the RT-N16. Let's see what Asus & others have to say about Unifi compatibility with the RT-N18U.

Hi k77,

Sorry for the trouble you faced, you can send over to Active Lansing in Danga City Mall at Level 2. They will help you send the unit for warranty claim. Look for Ah Boy.

Do let me know if you still face any problem in the process.

Thank you

Hello ASUSmy, I still need to know if the RT-N18 officially & fully supports TM Unifi's phone and hypptv. Also, how long's the warranty & places to claim within kl. Thanks.

Edit: So I read around a bit and both unifi internet & hypptv works on the router. How abt the phone? Please confirm. Tq.

Helloooo, it's been awhile and you still haven't answered or ignored my question. I'm interested in getting the RT-N18U router but need to know if Unifi voip & hypptv is fully supported at the moment. Also warranty from Asus is 3 years right? Please respond.

Hi voncrane,

Sorry for the late reply. Regarding the VOIP, if you only using 1 or 2 phone line, the phone line will be plug in to the modem in state of the router. So you won't face any problem if you replace the TM router.

And RT-N18U are able to support HyppTV.

Thank you
*
Thanks for the reply. As mentioned earlier, only using 1 phone line which is currently plugged into the "voip1" port of the TM issued BTU? (the tall white standing device) unit. So i'll simply replace the default router with the RT-N18U, the Hypptv cable connected to the Lan 4 port of the RT-N18U. That should be all on the hardware side right? Software section looks like a no brainier.

Hi, anyone buy asus router from lazada before? I am planning to get rt14 uhp from lazada priced as low as rm257. All Asus router come with 3 years warranty right? If anything happens within the 3 years, can I claim warranty directly from asus Malaysia? Thanks !
*
Read the description & warranty conditions included in the product listing to be sure its just not seller warranty, as opposed to being directly from ASUS. No, never bought from Lazada.

Good Day gentlemen.

Please suggest me a good wireless router to replace my current router provided by Unifi.

My office is on BIZ20 package with 10users.
*
Handling 10 users should be a piece of cake. However, in order to give recommendations... What are your Needs? Feature requirements? Wireless range? Budget? Acceptable lan transfer speeds? etc.

Hi niel,

1. can you advise the differences?
The main different will be the RAM, AC56U  is 256MB while AC56S is 128MB.

2. are both compatible with unifi and hypptv?
Yes, both are compatible.

3. i saw some online retailer (eg. lazada) offer better pricing, if i get it online, where to get warranty support since asus has no service centre?
You will need to check with Lazada, as I know dealer are the one who post the item at Lazada. If anything happen, you will need to find back the dealer.

Thank you
*
So just to clarify. No matter where in Malaysia an Asus router is bought, if any issue which requires warranty claims, must return back to the dealer? Instead of direct claims from Asus Malaysia?

I have a problem I hoping ASUSmy can help with.

I just bought a RT-N18U yesterday. Flash to latest available firmware and factory reset it as stated in first page. All the setup n everything went well at first. I configure my Unifi + IPTV and plug in two ethernet device (NAS and PC). And I have a media player connected via WiFi. No other wifi devices. Not even phone or tablet.

I notice something very weird and frankly doesn't seems right. When I am streaming local media from my NAS to my media player (good speed, love the 450Mbps), if i were to do speed test on my PC at the same time, the router will cut the wifi bandwidth wayyyy down. Example if I playing a movie on my media player at 60Mbps, once I run speedtest on my pc (unifi 10Mbps) which is connected to the ethernet my wifi speed drop to below 250Kbps and stay that way as long as the speed test is running. Same thing for other type of load like Youtube or even a heavy webpage.

I try to play around with some settings but didn't help. Please advice... thanks.
*
Hmmm... I would also like to know a solution to this.

U experience same thing also?
*
No I don't. But I plan on purchasing the router as soon as I've settled on a suitable NAS config. Your setup sorta mirrors my intentions and so I'd like to know if it's an isolated thing or public. If so, solutions.

Use TM's default router and run the speed test.. See how. Take note of server selected.
