for a two-storey house, what's the best router that ensures wifi strength/speed and latency at their best on the first floor of my house?

currently eyeing the ASUS RT-AC87U, is it Unifi-friendly? the only thing that holds me back is the price. lol so expensive. any cheaper alternative from Asus that meets my requirements mentioned above?

Why are you eyeing the RT-AC87U? LOL!

You should eye the midrange RT-N18U.

care to elaborate? your said model is enough to extend the wifi range to upper floor? afraid too many walls therefore chance of signal weakening is high.

The attenuation of the 5GHz band won't help to get a stronger wifi signal.

Better use the 2.4Ghz band to get at those hard-to-reach places.

I am using the entry-level RT-N21D1 and yet it is sufficient to cover my whole 2-storey house.

thanks for the reply. so even with your entry-level model, there's not a drop of speed even on wifi yar? i have multiple devices at home, so hopefully each of my devices can receive full speed on wifi

anybody here is using the Asus RT-AC3200 for Unifi care to give feedback on how it is? The difference in price between the said model with AC87U online is too minimal, it's kinda a waste not to buy the tri band version.

I am using this router and it is fully compatible with Unifi. I don't test it with Maxis but it should be compatible. wink.gif

Check the Unifi compatibility part. wink.gif

good job on your website bro. you even wrote a guide to change custom router for the Unifi. not means much for the tech savvy but for average users, it's a really well written guide. biggrin.gif

sweet! drool.gif and what's greater is that its 2.4Ghz band can reach up to 1Gbps, 5Ghz up to 1.9Gbps if I'm not mistaken.. so it's just not a new router with more LAN ports tongue.gif

Tq for the reply will try again later..just confuse at the asus settings say Connected but windows show no internet
Wifi not working..
Might cuz of wrong password even hyptv working

this is a sign of wrong Unifi password inserted on the router page. some misconception from users is that they key in the password for their Unifi online account used to login at Unifi.occ. that's not the same password. password used on the router page isn't changeable. if you forget just give Unifi a call and ask the password for your Unifi. can try this first.

those who have AC86U and use VPN, how fast is your US VPN connection (w/ OpenVPN protocol)? And which VPN service are you subscribing? hmm.gif
