Hi,
Anyone have this pretty silly situation. My ASUS RT-N66U, the power button doesn't stay at "ON" position after pressing. The button bounces back up to the "OFF" position.

Ended now, I'm using cellotape and piece of small plastic forcing the power button to the "ON" position.

That means, we, the Asus router buyers are f**ked even if the router has malfunctioned within Three-Year-Warranty period.

As mentioned by ASUSmy , we must send it back to the original place where we purchased for warranty claim, as there is NO DEDICATED Asus Service Center for warranty claim.

What a shame for such a big name company with large user base.

Well, I got my RT-N66U from Viewnet, Lowyat. They asked me to go Asus centre 4th floor opposite of Maxis centre.

Asus centre then routed me back to Viewnet. Going up and down, being tai chi up and down. Finally I asked Asus centre politely, who can I go to. rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

Brought me over to Best Point (somehow the shop name also shows PC-Zone centre something).

According to "policy", need to pay RM40 verbally to me as it is after 1 year warranty period (but still within 3 years). Later print out receipt, shows pay RM30 once successful claim. sweat.gif

That's rather confusing.  rclxub.gif

That means at the end, you managed to claim your router's warranty at Best Point?

Not Viewnet (The shop where you purchased from)?

Not Asus Center 4th Floor?
*
In summary yes. I doubt I can approach the distributor as well.

Best Point can eat shit!

First time send in, took my RM30, didn't properly describe the problem on my RT-N66U to Asus Service Centre. Unit returned within 3 weeks, without any fix.  Lost my receipt and box was in bad shape. Diagnosis said "tested without problem."

Tested can't even last 8 hours, router gila again. Drove all the way there, send in again. Open a job sheet, but they decided to keep it in their store instead. Router never get to reach Asus the second time.

Asus should do something about Best Point.
*
Oh my goodness... Which shop/distributor you bought from?

According to Best point, they are the service center for all Lowyat shops. Not sure how true.

My case, didn't pay rm30 until the claim is successful. I ensure the receipt for the job sheet was written clearly on my power button not able to turn on and port faulty.

Now I'm worried. Asus should really do something about this. Puzzling why accepting all other Asus products but not networking.

Best point service centre really does suck. One month, no news at all. Calling the handphone and phone line, rings but nobody answers.

Should i just get another router?

UPDATED: Finally managed to get through, the guy answered and responded, not ready. No idea when it will be fixed. He is "blaming" the supplier. When I ask who is the supplier, he didn't answer. Is the supplier Asus eventually? or some 3rd party to Best point which is already a 3rd party?

Try send to distributor.

Either scanart.com.my or advancenet.com.my

There is small fees will be charged, around RM20.
*
Anyone tried doing that? How would you know it's from which distributor? Maybe I go back and check the box again, I kept it.

Shame for high price item to have such a lousy service center. Where do you send your? I try to send my router to lowyat level 4 but they dont accept it. said need to send to store where I bought.
*
Best point is the name of the service centre. Bought from Viewnet. Avoid at all cost.

What timeframe did they give you when you sent in your item? I usually have quite good experience with Best Point. If they say 2-4weeks or 4-6weeks, usually the item is ready early. I've sent in stuff from Gigabyte, Mikrotik, WD, Seagate, D & TPLink, etc... However never Asus since I seldom buy Asus.

The only time I had a problem was with a Transcend flash drive. That was solved by going straight to the distro in Amoda.
*
Hmmm... judging from that. Best point isn't that bad place for other stuff. That's why am asking, who is the "actual" party responsible for fixing it? Is Asus still the party behind all these? Cause that's what the Best point staff say, the supplier haven't reverted back.

My case, is just the power button doesn't hold down when pressed. The person issuing the RMA said 2-4 weeks. It's one month since. Now I called in today, another guy told me, it's usually 4-6 weeks, probably the earlier person communicated wrongly or I might have heard wrongly. sweat.gif

Anyhow, not sure public holidays and etc is counted. I guess I just wait longer.

Sideline: You seems to have a lot of RMA products. tongue.gif

Ouch. My RT-N66U went in RMA with Best Point Lowyat end November. Called few times, now telling me, "supplier" do not have replacement parts as the model is out of market.

Issue: Power switch cannot be pressed, it "bounces" back to off state. One of the network port is faulty.

Most likely 1st/2nd week of February which is CNY. I guess end February likely.

Asus RT AC68U or RT AC88U?
But if unifi 30mbps only...buying RT AC88U seem not worth it?
*
Ultimately depending on your budget. If you can afford it, why not? Higher end model doesn't mean it's to cater for higher network bandwidth. Of course it could be overkill, but having more isn't a bad thing right? brows.gif

It's range (wifi signal coverage), concurrent connectivity, load of the connectivity, total number of connected devices, what expected performance throughput of the devices (like you got a lot of AC devices versus N, G etc).

Hope this is helpful to get a better picture.

Can I get a suggestion?

What's the best router option for a 4500sqf 2 story bungalow?

Usage not heavy. 4-5 devices running Facebook/YouTube/netflix and 1 ps4 for online gaming.

Currently using 5mbps unifi with default router woth plans to upgrade to 30mbps.

No need high end. Most important is coverage and stability. Dual-band not necessary.
*
That's too huge. You will need repeaters, home line plug (not sure what's the name now, to go through electric line for network connectivity).

You can use this link for a product recommendation.

Hi all,

I have upgraded from an N66U to an AC68U as the main router for my home 50Mb Time Fibre connection. I've posted the N66U for sale but am now having 2nd thoughts, maybe keep it at home to use it together with the AC68U - both are bloody good routers, IMHO.

Perhaps the network gurus here can share their thoughts. This is what I am thinking to do:

1. Leave the AC68U as the primary router. Disable 2.4GHz wifi, enable 5GHz with 1 main SSID, 1 guest SSID (e.g. home5, guest5). Basically 5GHz AC-Wifi up to 1300Mbps.

2. Install the N66U in AP mode (LAN cable to AC68U). Disable 5GHz and enable 2.4GHz wifi, 1 main SSID, 1 guest SSID (e.g. home2, guest2). Basically 2.4GHz N-Wifi up to 450Mbps.

I have about 10 wireless devices and 2 wired devices at home. Overkill?
*
Definitely overkill. Unless AC68U resource usage is high (CPU, memory) and bandwidth is always maxed out.

AC68U and N66U is designed to cope with both 2.4/5 and multiple clients, disabling one over another doesn't provide any benefit.

There's another to be paranoid and physically also segregating your network. rolleyes.gif notworthy.gif shakehead.gif

Hi,
My AC86U, when pressing power on, led lights in front turns on and blinks. After awhile, all lights will turn off, but the router is working fine.

Any idea why is it like that?
