hey web sifus, I just bought an Asus RT-N12HP yesterday but whatever I do just seems to not be able to get me internet connection.

You can see from below:
- It says I am connected to the internet
- Upgraded to the latest firmware
- Green icon (top right) indicates connection

BUT at the bottom right, still shows that connection is limited. This is driving me crazy! I'm really out out of ideas here. Somebody please help!!

Dear ASUSmy,

I have been using the RT-AC55UHP for quite some time now and I am very happy with the performance and the features it provided.

The only thing that I still cannot do is to connect to the router from the Internet. FYI, I have already registered to the DDNS features using xxxxxx.asuscomm.com.

I failed to get the webpage of the xxxxxx.asuscomm.com from the internet but I can resolve the domain name and I can ping the xxxxxx.asuscomm.com from the Internet.

Are there any more steps that I have to do before I can browse the administration GUI from the Internet?

Thanks....

I got the new RT-AC88U.
I followed Blacktubi website instructions to set up as wireless router, connected to Unifi modem.  http://www.blacktubi.com/unifi/setup-asus-router-for-unifi/

But i keep getting timeout message.

I tested the same steps for existing DLink router, and it worked.

Appreciate any help.

skip this setup.. go to WAN page and set up your unifi username/password. please check also under LAN, go to IPTV tab and choose Unifi-Home

Thank you jusbella but I found out that I do not need to setup port forwarding. Just enable to allow the administration page to be accessed from the Web.

USB storage access speed on my RT-AC66U is very bad. Is this due to hardware limitation of the router?

QUOTE(Harddisk @ Feb 29 2016, 06:39 PM)
Hi,

As tested on LAN port, the download from router's USB drive was 11mB/s without other disk activity. Destination disk is SSD.

Is this acceptable speed or considered in slow range?

In fact, I have already raised the similar issue with the pathetic USB performance with Asus AC router. doh.gif

Till now, there is still no resolution from ASUSmy pertaining to my issue posted. whistling.gif

Hmm... I haven't test my RT-AC55UHP yet on the USB performance. I will test it tonight and post the result here. BTW, what is the acceptable speed? There must be some sort of benchmark speed if we want to say the speed we are gettimg is slow or fast... Anyone?

Some simple maths: With connected wireless LAN speed of 300 Mbps, theoretically max throughput should be ~ 37.5 MB/s.

In realtime usage:
- Wireless file transfer using normal Windows Explorer Copy & Paste: 1.74MB/s
- Wireless file transfer using SCP Protocol: 0.05625MB/s Download, 0.0875MB/s Upload

Okay... I did the file transfer test and below are the result. Please keep in mind that my PC's wireless connection is only 144Mbps.

Download file from USB Drive to PC: 3.78MB/s
Upload from PC to USB Drive: 3.52MB/s

Below are the screenshots...

When using a network cable from laptop to my RT-AC55UHP with USB 2 storage connected I'll get around 22 MB/s. It's a lot slower when using the Wifi, only approx 4.5 MB/s.. My laptop is quite old though, Have been searching for a replacement wireless card but can't find one locally, will maybe buy a USB AC adaptor..

Based on the abovementioned discussion:
- RT-AC55UHP ~ 3-4 MB/s transfer rate (USB 2.0, wireless connection)
- RT-AC1200HP ~ 1-2 MB/s transfer rate (USB 2.0, wireless connection)

ASUSmy, mind to share your lab tested results from your research department?

Question: With connected wireless LAN speed of 300 Mbps, using theoretically max throughput of 37.5 MB/s, what performance can ASUS router deliver?

As mentioned as earlier, the advertised 3200 Mbps / 2334 Mbps / 1900 Mbps / 1750 Mbps / 1167 Mbps are very misleading.

How can ASUS router performs as advertised when its advertised max throughput internal transfer can't even achieve 10% of its 300 Mbps wireless N connection?

I'm facing the same problem but solved now. You may need to make sure key in the correct user name and internet password. The password should be mix of alphabetical and numeric characters.

Hi there,
I have a question.
If I purchase ASUS router from other country which is also available in Malaysia, should I able to use it for TM Unifi or Maxis through flashing its firmware?
Thank you.

Ultimately depending on your budget. If you can afford it, why not? Higher end model doesn't mean it's to cater for higher network bandwidth. Of course it could be overkill, but having more isn't a bad thing right? brows.gif

It's range (wifi signal coverage), concurrent connectivity, load of the connectivity, total number of connected devices, what expected performance throughput of the devices (like you got a lot of AC devices versus N, G etc).

Hope this is helpful to get a better picture.

ericlawyh to be honest you are a little bit too over, on this sentence. "As mentioned as earlier, the advertised 3200 Mbps / 2334 Mbps / 1900 Mbps / 1750 Mbps / 1167 Mbps are very misleading."

1. This is not referring to USB connection speed, it is referring to kind of stream speeds and max wireless transmission potential. Some of the AC3200 offer Tri-band which means segmenting 3 areas of antenna power for segmented networks. That is also how they get up to that big number. IT IS NOTHING RELATED TO USB.

2. ASUS can't advertised what they want like what you mentioned, 3200 Mbps / 2334 Mbps / 1900 Mbps / 1750 Mbps / 1167 Mbps or so on. This is a standard created and maintained by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) LAN/MAN Standards Committee (IEEE 802). It has to go through some testing before it came to market.

Can't fault the logic.. However, you say "standards", I say sales & marketing gimmick.... With electronics, real world performance wins all the time, and frankly, the attained speeds being posted by users are simply quite poor.
