Just received RT-N14UHP today. Was purchased from Lazada last friday due to 12.12 sales with a very good price..

Setup was easy but found out that there is a bug when starting..(not sure whether its known bug or not)

For the first time I login to the router page, it prompt me to key in router username and password. After that, I clicked "Next" to key in my Unifi account, and then it takes 60sec to applying settings..

After 60sec it prompt me to relogin the router, so I key in the username and password I set earlier, but it wont let me login, it says its wrong..(I'm sure I was key in the right username and password)..I even reset the router and do it all over again..but still same..

Finally I key in default username and password, and I'm able to login to the router..

Quite funny that first time ask me to set router username and password, but didnt save it..
Besides that, this model come with 300Mbps wireless right? How come when I connect using my phone, my link speed only 26Mbps while my tablet show 104Mbps?  rclxub.gif

Hi Lineage,

Will let our RD know your feedback. And as for the speed, you can set the Wireless->Control Bandwidth to 40MHz and test the speed again.

Do make sure your device able to go up until 300Mbps or not.

Thank you

Hi Asusmy,
Im using ASUS DSL N12E C1, Firmware 1.0.7.6. I realise that it take about 5-10 minutes during startup for the ADSL light to start to blink and connect. Is this consider normal? Or it is during to some mistake in my configurations? I'm using it for Streamyx.

Hi dannychen,

May I know have you do a factory reset after the firmware update to 1.0.7.6.

Thank you

AsusWRT-Merlin 376.49 STABLE has been released.

Changelog:
CODE
376.49 (21-Dec-2014)
  - NEW: Merged with Asus GPL 376_3677.  This new code
includes a lot of changes related to USB modem
         support.
 - NEW: IPv6 handling based on dnsmasq + odhcp6c.  This new
code which has been developped by Asus these past few
months but kept disabled so far has been enabled.
Initial tests show much better reliability with
        different ISPs.
 - NEW: Added IPv6 support to DNSFilter (currently only
Yandex has IPv6 servers).  Note that unlike IPv4
filtering, we cannot automatically NAT queries
to the desire server, so the current implementation
works like Asus's YandexDNS service, where IPv6 servers
are simply returned to DHCPv6/RA client queries,
and ip6tables ensures that you cannot override
them, by rejecting connection to other DNS servers.
 - CHANGED: Merged newer DPI engine from 378_3123 beta
            (AC87)
 - CHANGED: Removed SSLv2 and v3 support from OpenSSL
(we had already stopped using these in
376.48, so this removes unused code)
 - CHANGED: The VPN webui is now a bit closer to Asus's code.
This will mostly make it easier to keep in
sync with future changes to that UI by
Asus (they rearranged the layout a bit in
            376_36xx).
 - CHANGED: Updated OpenVPN to 2.3.6
 - CHANGED: Reverted to Asus's max-lease number calculation
            for dnsmasq
 - CHANGED: Hide wireless key on settings page unless field
            has focus (patch by John9527)
 - CHANGED: Ported USB 3.0 (XHCI) kernel driver from
Netgear GPL (which seems to have in turn
backported it from upstream kernel 3.x)
 - CHANGED: Updated Quantenna to v36.7.3.23 (AC87)
 - FIXED: vsftpd wasn't properly compiled with SSL
          support.
 - FIXED: MAC filtering couldn't be disabled on Guest
networks (Asus bug) (Patch by John9527)
 - FIXED: Various fixes and tweaks to the new IPv6
          code from Pinwing and saintdev
 - FIXED: Editing a client on the networkmap would
cause any matching DHCP reservation entry to
          lost its hostname
 - REMOVED: The web redirection control setting was
removed, as it is being replaced by the
            (simpler) redirection setting Asus added
            to the System page.

Is it recommended to set at 40MHz? If Im not mistaken, iOS devices are limited to 20MHz only. Setting to 40MHz will cause them unable to connect.

Just to update on another Asus wifi product that I bought recently from Lazada. It is the USB WiFi adapter USB-N14. Got it cheap since I used some coupon code and end up only paying RM40 for it.

The device is really slim, with a micro usb cable and two 5dBi antenna. I think maybe Asus should include a piece of double sided tape to secure the base station since it is a little light and without rubber feet. I would prefer a longer USB cable so that I can tape the station on my table instead of having it on the CPU casing.

Back to the performance, it was able to detect much more routers than before. On my phone, ipad or Dlink DWA-140, I was only able to detect 3-4 of my closest neighbours routers, but now it can detect about 15 routers. Pretty impressive. Not to mention one of them was a petrol station which is about 200m away from my home.

Did some speed test with my FTTH 10Mbps. Downloads were max but I find it surprising the upload is a bit slower than expected. It was fluctuating a lot around 5-8Mbps and the wifi adapter is basically just beside the router. I even tried streaming movies from my Nexus 10 and it is indeed very not stable. It would stream fine for few minutes and then stuck forever.

I thought this would be a 2T2R but I could be wrong here.

From your experience, I think transmitting (as opposed to receiving) is a totally different ball game. And, if the two, i.e. transmitting & receiving is not uniform, eventually have the lag that you have experienced. So, one lesson learned is that up and down is crucial.

Hi andrekua2,

Normally I will set it as 20MHz/40MHz, and yes some iOS device may face problem if the control bandwidth are selected as 40MHz.

Kindly advise the best settings for wireless for RT-AC87U?

Do I leave the channel bandwidth to 80mhz, control and extension channel to Auto? and frequency to 5ghz?

Hi PBDHH,

This model have 2 frequency which is 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Both of them can run together by default.

You can leave the 5GHz frequency setting as it be as there is less interference compare to 2.4GHz.

For 2.4GHz, you can try fix a control channel. You can software like inSSIDer to detect your surrounding for the best channel to select.

The channel bandwidth you can leave it or set it to 40MHz. You can always set back to 20/40MHz or 20MHz if you found that 40MHz is not stable.

Thank you

Hi hafiez,

The only way is to do a reset if the password you set is unable to log in.

Hi ASUSmy,
Do you have someone to optimise my router. Just moved to Maxis IPTV - technicolor router and they disconnected my RT N66U previously connected to Unifi. Willing to pay someone to come over - obviously for this help. I dont want to mess it up fiddling with the router connections.
thanks

Hi,

U can't use the asus router for maxis iptv. You can only use the technicolor router at the moment. If u use any other router, you will not be able to watch iptv, but Internet will work fine though. There are a few tips to tweak the technicolor router for better internet, wireless signal etc and this can be done through telnet.

Currently, I am using maxisfibre 20 without IPTV service, and planning to buy the Asus Ac87 very soon to be hooked up with technicolor v3. Questions with regards for max wifi speed/strength:

1. Which way to hook up is more appropriate, i.e. ac87 in between the TM modem and technicolor. The TM modem WLAN outlet to ac87 WLAN, ac87 erthernet lan outlet to technicolor erthernet lan port??

(Note: I have a dect phone hooking up with the technicolor and is working. So, I still want the phone to be working with the technicolor and with the addition of new ac87 router, please.)

2. To back off, the question should "will ac87 be working with maxisfibre, and how? Please help.

Just purchased the WD ex2 8T to be set up as "fast" home cloud entertainment center, hoping it will work. Will appreciate all the helps & advices provided. Thanks.
