Guys long story short, I really need everyone’s help as I’m working from home and need my internet urgently.

So this is what happened, in 2020, I bought an Asus router as seen in the messages that I quoted and the router worked well!

My nephew played with my router and messed up the settings hence I restarted the doubters settings as we forgot our router’s password and unifi’s password.

Upon calling unifi, they provided me with my username which is my email address and thereafter texted me my 13character PPOE password. Upon following the steps above to reconfigure my router, my network status on the GUI interface displays my internet status as “disconnect” as per picture l.

Can anyone help me out, please ?

Been WFH and I need my internet access.

So....have you set the correct VLAN tagging? Or select correct ISP profile in a layman term?

I am clearly going wrong somewhere in the settings and can’t figure it out. Bro, are you fine if I call you ?

Hi,

I've been using my Asus RT-AX56U AX1800 Wi-Fi for about a year now.
Everything is great except for 1 weird issue.

The issue I'm having is wifi is connected but no internet in some devices after some time.
Let's say my laptop is facing this issue, but my other devices and other pc is still working fine connecting to the same router.

It happens for both 5ghz and 2.5ghz.
Very frequent for old laptops but also happen on modern laptops.
Quick workaround is change from 5ghz to 2.5ghz and it will work again, vice versa.
If all else fail, I need to reboot the router to get everything working again.

Tried everything, seems it won't go away.
Update firmware, using recommended settings etc.

Any idea what can I do? I attached my wifi settings as well.
Thank you.

Hmm.....can you check your system log if there is something like these ;

kernel: Replay Counter Different in group msg 2 of 2-way handshake!
kernel: Replay Counter Different in group msg 2 of 2-way handshake!
kernel: Replay Counter Different in group msg 2 of 2-way handshake!
kernel: AP SETKEYS DONE - AKMMap=WPA2-Personal, PairwiseCipher=AES, GroupCipher=AES from xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

kernel: AP SETKEYS DONE - AKMMap=WPA2-Personal, PairwiseCipher=AES, GroupCipher=AES from xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
kernel: ASSOC - 1 receive DIS-ASSOC request

There will be something about replay counter, then there will be DIS-ASSOC request. At your device, the wifi is still "connected" alright, but it is actually "disconnected" at the router.
Then out of nowhere, there should be error log like these;

kernel: CmdExtStaRecUpdateRsp::ERROR::EventExtCmdResult.u4Status = 0x10003
kernel: CmdExtStaRecUpdateRsp::ERROR::EventExtCmdResult.u4Status = 0x10003

I got one question to ask about the Asus router. Did anyone here notice that when we set our 5GHz wifi to channel 36, 40, 44 or 48. The speedtest result on wifi can reach to maximum speed but if we set the channel to 149, 153, 157, 161 or 165, the speedtest result on wifi only have 95% out of maximum speed. Especially when I set the channel to 165, I only can get 150mbps on speedtest. Why?

Now I was just locked my 5GHz to channel 36 in order to enjoy the maximum internet speed.

Look closely on why you only get 150Mbps when you forced channel 165. Only 20Mhz is allowed for channel 165.

As for the 36 - 48 = duh......it is law of physics. 5170Mhz - 5250Mhz is lower than 149 - 165 5735Mhz-5815Mhz. The lower the frequency, the easier for the signal to move around obstacles.

If you need refresher on frequency law of physics, watch this youtube video by Digi from a long time ago.

Last time I really don't know the 5GHz wifi speed is related to channels. I just left them "auto". No wonder why sometimes my router can't get full speed on speedtest. Now I better just lock it to channel 36.
*
True....unless if your area channel 36 - 48 is really congested.......then you might be better off using other channels instead.

I noticed RT-AC68U when set to lower channels (36-48) the signal is significantly weaker. When set to 149-161 the signal is strong.
*
Of course, have a look https://fccid.io/MSQ-RTAC68U on your AC68U

and compare it to AX86U https://fccid.io/MSQ-RTAXI600

Got your answer yet? wink.gif

For mine, channel 36-48 is weak to the point I have trouble getting full-bar signal in the same room with line of sight from the router. So it will of course lower the speeds that I can achieve too. So it depends on model, each model may have different channels that are stronger and can achieve higher speeds.
*
I don't recommend people to use DFS channel too.
If you take a look, the DFS channel transmit power is limited to 250mW. dry.gif
Low transmit power plus higher frequency = bad combo
Then again, if non-dfs channel is really overcrowded, dfs channel might be the only solution to get higher downstream speed.

Need inputs regarding ai mesh on standard router.
I’m currently using TUF AX5400 and not satisfy with the signal and coverage especially my back room, kitchen and toilet. (3000+sqft). I’m on 300mbps unifi plan but very poor speed and sometimes no connection in those area.
Thinking to get another unit of TUF AX5400 to form a Aimesh.
Will this setup (2 unit TUF AX5400) good? Or should i get a proper mesh unit like the ZenWifi XT8 ?
*
The problem with Aimesh = wifi is half duplex you know........each hop gonna reduce the bandwidth by half, don't get me started with latency... unsure.gif

Have you try to force manual channel selection to 36 - 48 ?
I am not sure if you are using DFS channel or higher 149 - 165 channels.

Check if your AX5400 has wifi region selection, select USA region. It has higher transmit power of 30dbm (1Watt)

From FFC-ID database https://fccid.io/MSQ-RTAX8D00 , you be better off using 36-48. Try it out first to verify if you can get better speed at those areas you mentioned?

because the same wifi used to service the client is also used for inter-node backhaul.

to avoid wireless backhaul from eating into the bandwidth, join the nodes using LAN cable suitable for the speed. OR, get mesh units with 3-bands. the 3rd band is usually reserved for inter-node wireless backhaul putpose.

A good explanation and proposed solution. thumbsup.gif

Unfortunately, if he gonna get mesh units with 3-bands, he gonna goes bankrupt moneyflies.gif moneyflies.gif moneyflies.gif

greeting,

i using router RT-AX86U.
used to run hidden ssid in my past wifi setting, but this won't work good with this router.

when i turn on the hidden ssid, my phone samsung a52 running android 12 (latest upd from official download), can't detect and connect the wifi.
the phone only can connect with ssid broadcasting.
i have no issue with hidden ssid in prev asus router.

is this somekind of wifi 6 setting causing it?
the most obvious setting difference i can c is i'm using the "dual band smart connect"

Tick that "Hidden" before you generate and scan it.

Hi,

I’m interested in getting RT AX86U router to replace my ancient TM Unifi black cylinder stock router (DIR 850L).

A few questions:

3. My house is a long 1 storey semiD house (25 x 70 = 1750 sqft), will this router can cover the whole house?

Thanks.

It is your client devices that determine the distance, not the router.
Most portable client devices especially smartphone transmits around 15mW to 250mW.
