Hi stormaker,

You will probably getting half the speed compare to the XT8 node.

Thank you
*
TUF-AX4200 have speed of 3603Mbps on 5Ghz band, so half of that would be 1800Mbps, even faster than XT8 node which is 1200Mbps. So, theoretically can support Unifi 1Gbps plan with this setup.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Not surprising with this seller. I got my gaming laptop from him on Feb and it's the same thing, awesome unbelievable price. As usual 5 units, finished those, restocked almost immediately. Compared to the others, it can go up to a few hundreds to RM1k of difference.

Wrong

First you need to factor in a 50% discount due to retransmission consuming the airtime.

Then, factor in around 60% singal reduction after 2 walls and another 40% capacity lost due to overhead.

3603*0.5*0.4*0.6 = 432Mbps, this will be the realistic maximum speed you can get when connected to TUF-AX4200 on wireless backhaul to ZenWiFi XT8.

Even you add another XT8, the theoretical maximum speed on wireless mesh node is around 700-800Mbps

If you want Gig speed on mesh node, only the XT12 can do it reliably.

Thanks for the explanation, currently I'm using 500Mbps, so I need to add another XT8 then. Planning to add another Aimesh node next to my computer in another room using wireless backhaul, then connect the node to computer using ethernet cable, should get me full n stable 500Mbps internet.

But will consider XT12 for future proof.

Received my XT8 today, going to have fun with it tonight. I downloaded the Asus Router app from Apple Store but it doesn’t list out XT8 there. Should I use XT9 for configuration?

I am getting error trying to configure using ios app asus router. It gave 'This network is not supported... ' when I scan the barcode.

Update: Using Android phone now and I could go and set it up. ios app is hopeless since there is no option for XT8 mad.gif

Just use web UI, more functionality provided. Works regardless of platform. biggrin.gif

I am currently using openwrt router, running on nanopi r4s. I had deco m9 before and it doesn't have many features. I believe xt8 has more features that I should run it as router setup rather than AP? I saw that it has features to do ad blocking using adguard. Anyone has using these features before?

You can definitely use it as router, then run Pi-Hole in your Pi.
In your DHCP settings, give a static IP address + DNS address (to Google DNS or something) to your Pi, then have the DHCP to send the DNS address of your Pi to other devices.

This way you get more control over the DNS service wink.gif

can i confirm there is no such function/feature to re-connect to better RSSI Aimesh node even the existing node signal still strong ?
*
There is an option under the Wireless > Professional section in the Asus router where you control the roaming signal threshold using the Roaming Assistant.

TL;DR: Roaming Assistant on Asus routers lets you stay connected to the best AP in your network. It checks your signal strength and switches you to a stronger AP if needed. You won't notice any drops in your connection.

user posted image

In the image above, the Roaming Assistant feature is already enabled. The Disconnect clients with RSSI lower than value is set to -70 dBm. This means that the Roaming Assistant will disconnect a client from the current AP and connect it to a stronger AP if the signal strength falls below -70 dBm.

Play around with the RSSI lower than setting to make your network better. Too low = too much roaming, bad for speed. Too high = weak signal, bad for quality.

Same here. The box is quite huge. Give me premium feeling. Lol. They gave one free shopping bag. Sweet.

Just bought a AX6000 to replace my AX86u. I want to setup my AX86u as mesh with 2.5G port. I attached the network cable to my AX6000 2.5G port then the other end to my AX86u WAN port. When I switch the AX86u backhaul to 2.5G, the AX86u disconnected. How to solve this problem?

hmm, seems like you have to use the 1gig WAN port
