QUOTE(dp82 @ May 29 2020, 11:39 AM) Not many people use 5Ghz in my area. Probably <2. I can try to explore that. I was wondering whether i should switch on both 2.4Ghz n 5Ghz based on following requirements. Not sure if this can fully optimize my router. Currently all devices are connected to 2.4Ghz. Sometimes all are connected to the router at one point of time. 2.4Ghz Handphone x 2. I am very mobile using this 2 devices. The wifi signal is super low in certain areas if i use 5ghz. So far the signal for 2.4ghz is ok. 5Ghz Laptop x 2 Handphone x 1 Ipad x 1 Most of the above devices are very near to my router. Wifi signal is good. Yes, you should use both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz. Use 5Ghz whenever possible as 2.4Ghz is highly congested.

Use 5Ghz whenever possible as 2.4Ghz is highly congested. As mentioned by brother blacktubi, use both bands. Do note that 5GHz signal has limited coverage unlike 2.4GHz, this is where the mesh system was designed to overcome this limitation. It can be too much of obstacles, i.e. walls from your device to the router that affects the 5GHz delivery.

Last question, should i let my handphone to use both 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz or just 2.4Ghz? I did try to use this setup b4, but some how the router will auto assign to 2.4Ghz if the signal is weak/ no signal for 5Ghz. And in between the transition, i got disconnected fr internet.

Hi Asus Dev,
I recently purchase Asus RT-AX3000 . Using Maxis Fibre with VoIP. Current Firmware : 9.0.0.4.384_9248
My IPad2(Model : MC980ZP/A) is unable to connect to the router. I notice that if i set Authentication Method : WPA2/WPA3-Personal.
If i set it to WPA2-Personal then i'm able to connect successfully.
Is it a bug with the software ?

If your signal is weak, u might wanna consider setting up another AP or mesh to cover dead zone

QUOTE(blancpain4470 @ May 24 2020, 04:39 PM) I have 2 x RT-AX3000 connected in Aimesh. One on ground floor and one on first floor covering 3.5 floors building with TP Link RE650 extender. Initially was ok but after two weeks the mesh node started to go offline. I reset. Reconnect. Relocate the node closer to the main node. It worked for a day and then offline again. Today I reset the mesh node. Reconnect again and move it slightly closer again. I also decided to use RE650 as access point for the main router to increase the signal strength. It works so far but my question is why it worked and disconnected after that? Is connection quality -63dbm on the mesh node considered acceptable? Oh u can setup aimesh and add another tplink as AP? How do u do that? So they have different SSID?

You just connect any router to your main router. In my case my main router is Asus. The old tplink from unifi is connected to the main router via Ethernet cable. You need to disable the DHCP of the old router to avoid conflict. I also assigned a static IP to my old router. Just have to make sure it is in the same network segment. I set up different ssid on my old router. I use the old router mainly to support my smart devices. This frees up the main router and mesh to handle other devices

Don't use WPA3 now, not many devices in the market can support fallback properly currently. iPad 2 definitely does not support WPA3.

Hi, I just setup AX3000. I find that in the WebUI under IPTV, if I wanted to set the VLAN manually, I need to type the VLAN ID manually for Internet and IPTV. If I want to enable VLAN ID 500 for LAN1-3, I type "1-3" in VID? How about SSID using this VLAN ID too? And also, may I know what is PRIO?

DNS Settings in Asus RT-AC86U
In my Asus RT-AC86U there are 2 places where I can set the ip address for DNS. They are at:
LAN > DHCP Server >DNS and WINS Server Setting - Only can set 1 ip address for the DNS
or at
WAN > Internet Connection > WAN DNS Setting - Here there are settings for 2 ip address for the DNS, DNS Server 1 and DNS Server 2
What are the differences between these 2 places for setting DNS?
When I set my network card on auto ip, it seem to pick up the DNS settings from "DNS and WINS Server Setting". So is there anyway I can type in 2 ip addresses for DNS servers at "DNS and WINS Server Setting"?

This DNS IP address will be assigned to all devices connected to the router via DHCP - it is best if the router does the DNS caching. The second one is for your router to query the DNS server. Put your preferred DNS ip address here, rather than in the first one.

For anyone having similar issue such as mine which was the 5Ghz wifi would start having problems after one week uptime. If you are already connected to the 5Ghz ssid, no internet connection and can't access the router. If try to connect to the 5Ghz ssid then it won't let you.
The solution I found was to reset the whole router. By going to Administration > Restore/Save/Upload Setting > Factory default. Tick the radio button "Initialize all the settings...-" and press the "Restore" button.
After doing this the 5Ghz wifi is working great even after over 2 weeks. Hope it helps.

I've had the Asus AC86u router for about 2 years now. Its been working without any problems, recently there's been an issue connecting to the 2.4Ghz channel, I get an error, "Unable to connect to network". The only thing that has changed is the firmware. I've tried using older firmware versions but the problem still persists. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Hi violater, Can you do a factory reset with the new firmware updated and reconfigure the router again. Try updating the WiFi adapter driver also for your PC or laptop. Thank you
